I haven't played it since I was a kid when it first came out, but I have very fond memories of this game and still love it from what I remember. I don't get why people hate on this trilogy so much
I love these games too. Just pure pleasure, no guilt about it. I just don't find linearity a issue. Many of my favorite games are completely linear, so I guess I just don't identify with those who think that's a fatal flaw. I love the story and characters and the combat system is interesting. A had a friend who complained that the combat system had no depth, and also that some of the boss fights were impossible. Annoyed the hell out of me, because there is depth to the combat system which he just ignored and that's why he couldn't beat the bosses.
@@BenedictMHolland I get that you would say it's linear and like a corridor, honestly my biggest problem was the pacing of the game and how the first say 10 to 15 hours you literally do one battle walk 10 metres and have a cut scene, there is so much story thrown at you at a short period of time, you just want to get on with actually playing the game, having said that it gets better later one, hence why I say the pacing is awful, this is why abit more exploration and open world would be nice, for me it's a game thats ok-good but shows there was potential for a much better game under the surface
My first final fantasy was FFVII when it came out on PS1. I’m in the UK, it is quite unusual to meet anyone who played an earlier FF at the point of release. I came away really down from XIII because it leant even harder into the things I detested about X. Corridor RPG for the vast majority of the game (even more than X!) with a fear of portraying characters with a triple digit IQ (even more than X!) I actively wanted to strangle certain characters. I much preferred XII although characters being just obtusely, bizarrely thick was also a problem there. But not all of them. XIII literally felt like smacking my head into a pickaxe. And that’s what I don’t get. Everyone liked the classic formula. Many, many people hated where it went with XIII. So why go there?
Meanwhile, me who spent 60 hours just to get to freeroam section and another 60 hours to get platinum trophy lol. Great run btw, love this game, i've got more insight about how certain mechanics work, didn't know about the camera and that fog can reset if you quit a battle. You made this game look so easy. Thanks!
This was a pretty great run. The runner and commentators were both enjoyable to listen to. Kaya made much of it look easy, but when things went wrong, it really showed how intense and skill-heavy this run could be.
One of the things I enjoy about 13's speedruns over the other games is the pure technical skill you need for the battles outside of just memorizing. Most of the FF games its breaking menu's and items and glitching out everything and teleporting while beating bosses with a few inputs
Honestly cool to see the amount of love FF13 gets, while I’ve never loved the game I don’t think it deserves the hate it gets and it’s nice to see such a passionate community behind it. Also, soundtrack is incredibly underrated.
I don't think it deserves a ton of hate but the first 10-15 hours are a slog and badly paced, also the game shows potential that it could be so much better, maybe that's why the hate I dunno, I enjoy the game when it let's you play and doesn't throw storyline at you every 5 minutes.bit I would like abit more exploration, towns, side missions, shops, being able to have an open crystarium so you can continually level up without being capped
I personally love FF13's characters, Lightning being super protective of Serah and Hope, and *spoiler warning* Eventually giving up her life in an endless battle with Caius, kinda shows how Final Fantasy can set up a sequel.
I've just started watching the run and I'm so hype! This was the first FF game I played and I adore it. I've been meaning to replay it for a while now, and I've got fresh inspiration from seeing this on my feed
This is the game that got me interested in the series. VII and X never stuck with me. The music is awesome. I'd say the speed run was educational for me. It's my love for this that got me into XIV ARR. The comment about the queues was accurate though but hey if you have to stop sales because you can't meet demand you must be doing something right.
Ironically, this is probably the game that got me out of the series (having started at VIII and then gone backwards as well as forwards), since I was never able to get past the instant death attacks of the final boss and (to younger me at least) completing the game felt so random and out of my control. The speed run was definitely educational in that sense.
I was 18 when this game came out and I bought it right away. Barthandelus by far is the hardest boss. Took me a million tries and I’m pretty sure I cried when I beat him in Oerba lol
this gives me hope for the final boss annoying thing about barthundelus is the time limit, sometimes forcing you to be more aggressive. i just beat him in oerba and was a second off dying from the doom counter
Actually he's not actually hard you need royal armlet when you find on the ship when you then you will get the imperial armlet at end game. I beat the game with hope estheim. I don't remember what equipment I used as far I remember I use nirtua weapon, goddess favor, doctor code, and imperial armlet fully upgraded all equipments.
This run inspired me to go and buy the game. I just got to Chapter 11, the 'good part', but I thought it was already good at least since Chapter 7. Thanks for bringing a spotlight to this.
A very nice run! I really enjoyed watching and listening to the commentary. Also, SaberaMesia singing the donations towards the Blindfolded Dehaka fight was amazing :D
That was awesome. I took me the length of this speed run to get past Anima! Too much standing around listening to music and looking at the environments!
My favourite hallway simulator game! Kidding aside, this is my favourite FF game to play (although VII will forever have a special place in my heart). Love seeing this at a GDQ!
I really like(d) playing the game, although it was quite complex and difficult to master. Sadly, i got stuck bacause i'm not good at beating the bosses like Kayaune does! xD
The chat was so obnoxious during this game wow. I love the game and loved the run! Seeing how perfectly they utilise paradigm switches is so satisfying!
It's kinda shocking how much of FF13's combat is not explained to the player. This game has more going on than some people will lead you to believe. Also, these guys have gotta learn how to pronounce "gestalt". XD The funny thing is...the runner is German. He should be correcting them boys! :P
What's the name of the battle theme variation that plays during the battle inside Hope's House? I know part of it is Blinded by Light but I can't seem to find THIS particular version anywhere
That’s not true at all. Yes you move in a straight hallway, cause obviously that’s the game. It’s not called hallway simulator for nothing. But this is a much more complicated speed run that you’re making it sound. The amount of paradigm set ups and shifts in a single battle, is very complex. The crystarium being used in a very specific way so as to have the appropriate stats. The weapons being upgraded with Gil that needs to be exact or else you’re in trouble. Yes it doesn’t use that many glitches other than the running backwards one. But so what?
This run is great evidence for how rushed or underdeveloped this game was. If you're not watching a story you're either walking through a straight hallway or fighting. So boring. The level design is by far the worst of any Final Fantasy game, maybe any square game. Even World of Final Fantasy added a few secondary paths, this game is almost entirely straight hallways.
This game was released in 2009 and still looks amazing for today's standard! Definitely it's a guilty pleasure of mine.
I haven't played it since I was a kid when it first came out, but I have very fond memories of this game and still love it from what I remember. I don't get why people hate on this trilogy so much
Ffx-3 is not the same as ff13. Ffx-3 was part of the trilogy of decent to favorite games. Ff13 was an 80 to 120 hour linear corridor.

The speed he navigates and modifies everything through the different menus, is absolutely insane!! Amazing work!!
I would like to nominate this game for the loudest footsteps in gaming. :D Great run!
digimon world 1 has the LOUDEST footsteps in any game ever, get a greymon and you'll never hear anything
Kept me awake during the marathon when i needed it the most. Great speed run and great commentary
So glad I got to watch most of this run live. I’ve been wanting to find a reason to finish this game and I think I’ve found it! 😁
What I love the most about this game is sound and OST, never let me down
Honestly cool to see the amount of love FF13 gets, while I’ve never loved the game I don’t think it deserves the hate it gets and it’s nice to see such a passionate community behind it. Also, soundtrack is incredibly underrated.

I enjoyed every moment of this speedrun when it was live! Can't wait to add it to my Playlist of other GDQ Final fantasy speedruns!
Nice avatar!
@@GyroZeppeliUwU Nice avatar!
This is one of the best explained runs I've ever seen. It was fun to watch
Great, execution-heavy run and commentary. Also nice to hear from Muttski.

This was a great run and fun to watch on stream, unfortunately i missed the last hour or two but it was still great fun, thanks :D
This run inspired me to go and buy the game. I just got to Chapter 11, the 'good part', but I thought it was already good at least since Chapter 7.
Thanks for bringing a spotlight to this.
A very nice run! I really enjoyed watching and listening to the commentary. Also, SaberaMesia singing the donations towards the Blindfolded Dehaka fight was amazing :D
thank you for this, now i can finally watch something to fall asleep to
Thank u for keeping this game alive I play this game back in 2011 it will always be my child hood game 🎮
You dont understand the excitement i had when I just beat this game the day before I found out it was going to be at GDQ. great run!
I love how the soldiers will run at you, swipe, then return to their patrol like nothing happened instead of chasing you down.
I loved this runner and commentary, actually sad we didn’t meet the incentive
Here's hoping we can someday have an in-person event again! I really miss the thrill of watching the crowd's reactions.
That was awesome. I took me the length of this speed run to get past Anima! Too much standing around listening to music and looking at the environments!
I never knew how to use Odin lol. Had to find out from Kayarune just now 🤣
When I play it again I'll have to look up an Eidolon guide.
God damn, I couldn’t IMAGINE actively speedrunning this game. You must really love the hell out of XIII to even consider something like this
let's go. love this series
My favourite hallway simulator game! Kidding aside, this is my favourite FF game to play (although VII will forever have a special place in my heart). Love seeing this at a GDQ!
“I’m gonna go look ahead.”
Aww yes. Snow finally being appreciated outside of max crystarium lol
Thanks to his Rav lol
Heck of a run, definitely makes me want to play this game again though probably not as fast.
I really like(d) playing the game, although it was quite complex and difficult to master.
Sadly, i got stuck bacause i'm not good at beating the bosses like Kayaune does! xD
A FF game finished in under 5 hours? WHAAAAT?
Most FF games can be finished under 5 hours at this point. I think the original FF7-10 are the longer ones
There have been Final Fantasy games that have been run in GDQ marathons with times as short as 20 minutes
FF 13 has some of the best music.. awesome run
Old man Sahz is a beast post game! I switched from maining Fang to Sahz after learning how to kill the tortoises with him.
The chat was so obnoxious during this game wow. I love the game and loved the run! Seeing how perfectly they utilise paradigm switches is so satisfying!
3:52:40 - ah kyogre, my favourite digimon in ff13
Forgot how friggin abrasive the running sound was in this FF X)

All the other FF's have far more things even that are never explained in detail. Casuals wouldn't pay attention anyway.
I had this game when it came out and loved it. Does this really get this much hate?
It does because until pulse it's a corridor simulator which pissed most people of.
The only FF game's main battle theme i still listen to
Never thought I'd see this game at GDQ 😂
The endgame boss battles might be interesting if the characters are low level though
Why? The gameplay of 13 is very involved if you don't just play aimlessly.
gotta afk runescape to something thisll do,
Jk i love this game and yall
Haha I'm actually afking runescape while watching this right now! For bonus xp weekend. I love final fantasy 13 and watching these speedrun strategies
How does the game look this smooth?
14:01 AMOGUS ?!
What's the name of the battle theme variation that plays during the battle inside Hope's House? I know part of it is Blinded by Light but I can't seem to find THIS particular version anywhere
Defiers of Fate
I am seriously considering buying a €300 Series S plus GamePass just to play this again. The only thing stopping me right now is Elden Ring.
This game took me days how u finish it in 5 hours wow
nice
The only way I might see the end of this game.
FIFTY FOUR!
Loved the music for this game, but the game itself is my least favorite of the series. That said it is still an ok game for what it is.
the singing was complete garbage
Final Hall-tasy, you´ll never going to get lost in this game xD
It's crazy how the speedrun strat of ff13 is basically just playing the game normally but skipping cutscenes
Also playing optimally with minimal development and having to quickly adapt if something goes wrong.

This has to be the stupidest evidence ever when speedruns by default just skips as many things as possible to get to the end.
And the speedrun is far from easy with how underlevel we are.
