  • Hey Everyone and Welcome to What Did I Miss, where today I will be breaking down the fifth episode of the final season of Star Trek Discovery, titled “Mirrors”. Without a doubt, the most interesting aspect of Star Trek Discovery is that the show has existed both before and after most of the events that fans of the franchise know and love. Because of this the audience is able to gain more context about these experiences and characters, even when they are not shown on screen. In many ways, this episode of Discovery existed in both the past and the future, as Burnham and Booker met the seasons villains on the mirror universe version of the USS Enterprise. There, they not only discovered the next clue on their adventure but also learned more about an alien race that has mystified Star Trek fans for decades.

I'm kinda confused though. Didn't Michael eat Saru in S1 when they were in the Mirror Universe?
    Good episode though

I pinned this comment because I originally thought the same thing and had to go back and check. There is an episode where Burnham eats Kelpien after picking out a slave, but that was another Kelpien. This is confirmed when Georgiou meets Saru after she is sent back to the Mirror Universe in the ep Terra Firma, which happens after the dinner.

I was of the same thought. I'm confused too.

There was another "slave" in the mirror universe. It wasn't Saru. Michael give that "slave" character the name Saru... but I can't remember what happened to that slave guy.
She never met ^Saru. 😊 She met "fake" ^Saru.
Maybe they employed two different writing teams for the three episodes who aren't very details oriented and didn't realized they confused the hell out of everyone.

It wasn't Saru but another Kelpian

Empress Georgia stated to Saru when she was beamed over( against her will) with Michael. She says “ yesterday we dined on the entrails of his brethren.” So that confirms it was not Mirror Saru but a different Kelpian

To my fellow commenters..Why do you people who have NEVER produced ANYTHING for TV or movies criticize things that others do... sci fi is dead? Not at all.
I agree with you, this was a good episode.

There was a big continuity error in this episode. They keep saying that the escape pods and shuttles are gone and that they have to use the ship to escape the wormhole. Then the bad guys escape on a life boat.

That were supposed to be already gone 🤔…. One would assume.

I think they created the Enterprise set for the last two episodes of Discovery season 2. They modified it slightly for it's debut on episode one of Strange New Worlds.

03:10 You’re referring to Princess Leia’s disguise as Boushh the bounty hunter, who was of the species Ubese

This was an Interesting Episode Now Starfleet has the ISS Enterprise and Hopefully they will put it in a Museum, You Know what I would do How I Would Write it is When the ISS Enterprise gets Taken to a Starbase it gets Upgraded to Current Specks so Weapons Shields Propulsion Every Room will be a Personal Holodeck in Addition to Giving the Ships at Least a Couple of Main Ones Just Give it the Works, Then Put it in a Starfleet Museum.

I think Reiner will be offered a new captaincy now that he’s been “updated” by the Discovery crew to serve as a Captain in the “new” Federation.

Since when did starships of the ISS Enterprise era have holo-emitters? Not to mention still having power after centuries in this extradimensional space. Moll shorts out all the power systems to shut down the security screens in the sick bay but suddenly all the power system work and the ship flies away. All seemed way too convenient

In Enterprise they did get the the tech. Or at least scanned it to have gotten the plans. Remember when trip got pregnant? There are so many changes in the timeline in Star Trek. Time cops couldn't keep up with them all.

Great set up episode. I wouldn’t be disappointed with one more of these but with more progression of the plot before they officially get into the final stretch and meat/potatoes of the episode. Totally agree with what they’re doing with Rayner. He’s very unlikable but now I can’t help but like him. Hope they wait it out to kill him off

I wonder if they are giving the writer of the "The Slaver Weapon" Larry Niven any credit. My guess is, not.

If they were _really_ "smart" , they would have tied in a REAL connection to the PRIME Universe, by using Vic Mignona's Enterprise sets for the ISS Enterprise , even WITH tge STD Enterprise coming under Pike .

It very much irks me when Discovery cherry picks the best parts of previous Trek, then creates poor canon. Such is the case with the Breen. First they refer to the Breen Imperium when it's the Breen Confederacy. Also, the Breen may have above average strength as evidenced by a Breen takes Worf's best shot and barely flinches in DS9 episode 7x18. So Burnham kicking the crap out of L'ak is kind of silly. Having them speak English totally demystified them as did having them taking their helmets off. Just awful all the way around. Lastly, why did they introduce Breen royalty? They should have just made the uncle a Thot (Admiral) so they didn't have to invent even more useless canon. It's like the writers are too lazy to do any research on the material they're ripping off.

This episode felt like Star Trek then all other shows like Star Wars, Lost in Space, Battlestar Galactica among others. As Discovery felt like the writers never really knew Star Trek and it lost its identity. I still walked away feeling like I just played a video game. But at least the story finally is Star Trek for the most part. Still hate most of the Characters as all to often they are painful to watch. Is it me or does almost every female character have mental issues and should all be in therapy?

"...less MAGA"? Really dude? You have zero idea what MAGA is if you equate it with the Terran Empire. And no, I don't want a political discussion, I enjoy Trek and it's vast array of points of view, ironically, to get away from politics. And yes, a libertarian-leaning conservative can, indeed, be a hard-core Trekkie. Don't be a dick to a huge part of your audience, Erik. Infinite diversity in Infinite combinations, aye? LLAP, brother.
