For film makers, the saddest times are when you have a beautifully told anecdote, but it's just too long to use in the film. With over 200 hours of footage that needed to get cut down to 2 hours of movie, this was a daily occurrence for us.
Sometimes you can cut out a little bit here, and little bit there, and retain the flavor of what someone said. In the case of Bob Meyer, many of his longer stories kept our entire crew on the edge of their seats. Bob is like many of the Twin Cities gamers--no one knows who he is, or his part in helping create RPG's. No one has ever bothered to ask him about how RPG's got invented, yet he was there.
Because of these kinds of stories, we want to make sure to have a Bonus DVD dedicated entirely to un-cut source video. We'll sweeten it up with a little bit of color work and a little bit of music, but in the end what you'll see, is exactly how the interview unfolded.
Here now is a sample of our interview with Bob Meyer. It begins before the interview actually is supposed to start. Chris is working with Ryan as they do some final adjustments on the lighting and framing. Yet, Chris has the sense to let the camera roll while Bob and I chit chat.
We follow up with some other stories about war gaming, and the origin of RPG's.
This interview was done as part of the production of "Secrets of Blackmoor" - a two hour documentary on the history and development of Dungeons & Dragons. Other parts of this interview appear in the movie. You can pre-order your copy of the movie on Kickstarter now at: www.kickstarte...
    Thanks for Watching,
    Chris and Griff

I got started about 1979 with Basic D&D. I love seeing this old history. We knew only what Gary wrote in the books.

I came into the game in 2007-2008. I love that these are available to watch as there's so much here for me to learn. The history I wasn't around for but still find fascinating

I realize I'm one of your very niche audience, but this is damn interesting.

We've seen a lot of estimates on how many gamers there are. We think we saw something from Hasbro that they estimated something like 30million D&D'ers world wide. So yeah, niche. But it's a pretty darned big niche if you ask us! We just posted 35 minutes of the film in rough form on this very same channel, if you liked this video, well--Head on Over!

I've met Bob, I gamed with him recently as a matter of fact, he said that he's honestly glad he doesn't get recognized more than a passing few times. He never wanted to be famous, but it's nice he took the time to do this.
