Love this cover! Well done! Will you have Sheet music for this one?

Thanks Albert! I always arrange by ear so I don't have sheet music until someone decides to transcribe it. Perhaps I can create a midi file for it in the future

How did you start learning to play things by ear? I'd like to start developing that skill.

Well it started with me hating to read notes and I wasn't really good at it either. One bar was fine, but two at the same time was at that time too difficult, plus while reading you can't really focus on the emotion you want to put into the song (for me at least). Then I just started by listening to some easy songs and try to play them by ear and slowly progressed from there. It helped that I knew a lot of theory about chords progressions/scales/circle of fifth etc. When you can quickly figure out the chord for the left hand you only have to figure out the melody. After time it just clicks and I started improvising a lot on the melody and now I can learn pieces fairly quickly, except for classical because they are more technically difficult.
Besides that I also learn from the Synthesia video's. A good starting point would be just to try and figure out easy melodies and learn more about chords, intervals and consonanse/disonance differences.

@@woutervanwijhepianist3664 Appreciate it! Been really wondering about this. I probably should learn a little more theory and then start with very basic songs. I agree its hard to put emotion into songs when sight reading. I'll be able to after maybe the first few playthroughs if the song is easy enough when sightreading but by then I kind of know what it'll sound like. Currently the technical challenge of just hitting the right notes with basic dynamics is very hard but I'm sure that'll become easier with practice. Thanks for the reply!

Yeah I often practiced on easy songs, first I tried doing the dynamics right, then the rhythm perfectly, then the left hand/right hand playing more in sync. together, then trying to play arpeggio's etc. Helps to focus on one aspect at the time in the beginning. Once you've got that you can start playing by ear more. There are also nice exercise videos for hearing online btw. If you ever need more help let me know :)
