Im currently building the blade 480 and to be honest, im not all that motivated to get it done...i bought the super combo kit and im not all that impressed so far...i know its a good helicopter but i keep running into building issues...they are simple but enough to piss me off...such as having to make my own esc mounting plate and then having to go back to the hardware store and find the right bullet connectors and then scratching my head on where to mount the esc and motor power wires so they are not near anything that rotates so now its sitting on my work table and im flying my 330s until i get motivated to complete the build...i know that this is a petty excuse to be mad at blade but damn, you would think that spending close to 1000$ that the build would be a lot smoother and would not have to make numerous trips to the hardware store....im thinking about getting a align or a saab goblin or whatever it is....those manufactures seem to have better quality parts and stuff.
I have personally not built a 480 fusion yet. I did have one for a short time and sold it. I never started the build just opened it up and looked at it. The ESC mounting is something everybody has to do, I can’t believe they didn’t think about that. Little things are very annoying but even the best of the best kits out there will have a little issues that you have to overcome. I personally have a massive collection of metric and standard bolts nuts and hardware. I do that because I’ve had multiple times where something wasn’t right or needing to run to the store and it’s 3 AM in the morning. So something to think about get yourself a nice little collection of metric and standard nuts and bolts. It helps big time with late night or multiple trip scenarios. I will be picking up a fusion 480 when they’re back in stock just because I’ve heard great things about them but you have to modify the build from what I’ve seen.
It’s a damn good helicopter! I’ve had zero issues with it have not touched it since the build. It flies every flight not a hiccup. I am truly and thoroughly impressed with it
You mentioned that there are zero problems with the stock ESC. So speaking of it, will governor work fine with lower or higher curves? Manual says that curve should be set to 75-85%, but is it fine to have throttle level outside of such value? Also what if i will run 4S instead of 6S, will let's say 90% throttle work for the governor too?
Do you use the governor function of the stock esc? If not, why? Also, how does a flat throttle curve work with no governor ? I would think the headspeed would surge at midstick and bog at high collective. Thank you, love your videos!!
Thank you, I’m glad you enjoy the videos. I’m running the stock ESC so stock ESC governor. Flat throttle line curves work by just keeping a percentage. You still run flat line curves with a governor. The governor is just there to add/take away RPM to maintain a set RPM. If there is no governor then yes the RPM will drop slightly under full pitch and raise under negative pitch. It’s really important on nitro to stop the engine from bogging down big time or over RPM and break a piston. On electric models the power is great it’s not all that noticeable.
@@westhobbiesrc8051 thanks for the reply! Okay I will try turning on the stock esc governor function when I get my build done and try that with flat curves.
@@jetsam38 yes I do, I use it to glue the servo leads to the FBL. With vibrations servo leads can pull out in flight. I don’t like the look of double sided tape and hot glue or goop can be hard to get off when you need it. The black fabric paint goes on nicely, looks great and clean. Super easy to get off when need be. And best of all cheap! One $5 bottle last for ever.
Thank you! Well honestly they’re two completely different machines. The 470 is a great beater and learner as well as every day flyer will do anything and everything you could ever throw at it. And super cheap to fix in a crash, the 650 is a great helicopter as well and flies big because it is big will do everything you want but more expensive to crash.
love my 470LP except for one thing can't get rid of tail wag, oscillation on mine- tried servo travel - good 90 degree horn no subtrim- has right thrust preloaded holds straight in rate mode various gain adjustments- what do you run? spektrum here too went to inner hole on servo arm various belt tension no bind and no slop on slider went to 74mm blades next will try different headspeed and/ or pitch your tail is impeccable- any gems of wisdom for me? what are your throttle curves and your gain settings? I have normal, idle 1 at 75 and 85 at idle 2 using esc governor are you using expo- should that go in the mb+ or the radio? this is my 1st scratch build so it's challenging to get it flying like yours is the holy grail right now
First thing I would do is go back to the 69 MM tail blades, make sure you have 3 to 4° of positive pitch on the tail at 90° center servo. Your running the micro beast? I would put the ball back on the center servo hole. What are your gain settings? I don’t use any expo, my throttle curve is 70 in Idle 1 and 100 in Idle two. Pitch curve is linear on all three modes. Also another thing could be the governor chatter. I just helped a guy that was having a tail wag issue and it ended up being the ESE governor he turned the governor off and the wag went away.
I had to replaced My stock esc with a HW because i thought my stock esc was crap. I was wrong they are fine. I had my gear mesh to tight and it was causing the esc to overheat and do a restart mid flight. I didn't find this out till I replaced it oops. Now need to get my Tail locked.
That really sucks! The stock ESC has been fantastic with hundreds of flights on my personal and my buddies 470. My tail is locked as well as my buddies tail I’m running 69MM stock tail blades as well. Perfect tail performance. What gains are you running?
The 470 is a great size bird! Fits in that middle area still super cheap to crash and flies really good! As far as belt tension I ended up just tensioning it more like a normal belt pulling it backwards a little bit locking it down and then adjusting the tension screws as I found with doing it the way the book calls I could not get the belt tight enough to not have a vibration in detail. But once I did it the “old-school” way it worked perfect. I personally prefer a belt on a helicopter the size as when you crash as we all do LOL cheaper to fix you don’t have to worry about tail deer stripping and so on
@@westhobbiesrc8051 Yeah, that is what I am getting at. The 550X and 800 are both torque tube. I like how low-hassle they are, so long as they treated nice. My first heli, years ago was 450 V2. It's funny that's I've got nothing close to that size today. My Oxy 2 is a lot more fuss. That is my only belt drive today. I fly like a wuss. I really have it solid in the sim before I bring it outside. Also, I'm older and parts price difference is not much of a factor to me. So... I'm leaning TT, but I'd probably be happy with either. I'll probably think about it over the winter and buy next spring. Decent light is done by 3PM and snow can't be long. It's nearly "sim" season.
@@yzScott I have multiple torque tube and belt driven Models. I like both! But with the 470 I wanted a beater model or something that I could practice new things on and if I dumped it wasn’t a big deal. So that was the reason going with the belted tail was less stuff to replace in a crash. But I have thought about changing it over to TT. It’s become a Beauty queen now with everything aluminum you can buy LOL! It’s definitely a fantastic model and you will really enjoy it
@@westhobbiesrc8051 Great info. I'm sure I'll continue to waffle until Spring. Having a designator beater is a pretty good idea, though. I had mostly in mind to fly it when I didn't really have room for something bigger. In the past, when choosing to debut a move from simulator, I picked the 550X over the Oxy 2. The 550X might be more expensive, but bigger is just easier. That 200 size heli is pretty twitchy and very high roll rates. Probably 380mm is a good compromise. I'm in Northern New Jersey. No problems at all they just keep on flying 😍👌🏻

did you ever have any tail wag- got a problem listed in above
how do you keep track of flight count?

No. No tail wag. Could be because I fly tt and not belt.
Regarding flights, I just write it down on my phone every time I fly
what is TT?
