  • Back at the height of the 360 & PS3 era, my friends would talk about how we wanted to play The Conduit on Wii. Problem is, none of us had a Wii... Until now. Join me on my journey through The Conduit, and its sequel, Conduit 2.
    Footage was captured from my Wii U.

      The conduit was and still is my favourite game not just for the wii but as a whole. The multiplayer was really fun to play. Unfortunately, due to the Nintendo wifi servers being shut down, you can no longer play it unless you use wiimmfi. But I'm still in love with the conduit 1 campaign. The conduit 2 was also great, wasn't the biggest fan of the campaign but the multiplayer was good.

    As a Nintendo kid growing up with a friend that played a lot of CoD and Halo on his 360, I remember really wanting a breakout, unique FPS for the Wii. To me, the Conduit and its sequel did not disappoint. I remember a few frustrating moments but I loved it (you can totally just squeeze past a lot of the mines if I remember right). I'd probably hate playing through it now but it filled a niche I was in. I played the multiplayer a lot! Streets with the hackers rapidfiring RPGs at each other's rooftops was majestic! I don't remember too much about the story (except that it got crackpot wild) but I remember Prometheus. Prometheus was a bro.
    Eventually, I dropped playing Conduit 2 for the Goldeneye remake that everybody hated but I LOVED. I'd kill for a smoothrunning port of the two games on Switch with the online multiplayer in tact. That'd be a great trip down memory lane...

    The conduit is one of the best games ever made. The multiplayer was shockingly satisfying and had a tremendously high skill ceiling.

  • @wonphi
    @wonphi Год назад +7

    Nah, disagree. The game is average (compared to general shooters) to pretty good at best (when looking at Wii shooters only), but definitely not crappy.
    This is coming from someone with the PSWii combo at the time when I was in my late teens.
    The only thing that is crappy is the fact you couldn't beat the game, come on, they're not that hard!
    The motion controls were great and natural to just point and shoot. Something that was the only reason why I wanted to play shooters on the Wii (including light gun style games like Dead Space Extraction) in the first place, being originally a PC gamer prior to trying consoles out, I couldn't stand analog sticks.

  • @gaymerherb
    @gaymerherb Месяц назад +2

    Both Conduit games were good and i really enjoyed my time with them.
    Like every Wii FPS, the full enjoyment and fluidity with the controls come from carefully tweaking the sensitivity and dead zone settings (Metroid Prime Trilogy NEEDS to be on "Advanced") and once you do, the Wiimote setup with IR targeting becomes this incredible fusion of FPS and Light Gun gameplay that honestly, once setup correctly, i think out does dual sticks on a traditional controller.
    My best buddy and i played Conduit and 2 online but once Goldeneye (2010) came out, we played it SO much, got to top 100 online and i ended up playing it for 10 years, don't miss that one, there are custom servers and a discord setup for it now so it's really not dead, same with Conduit 2.

    If your looking for more Wii Shooters, it could be nostalgia talking, but if I recall correctly, Red Steel 2 was actually a pretty decent Wii FPS/ almost character action like Swordfighter hybrid. It also had a whole cell shaded Cyberpunk Western aesthetic. It was full of the kind of charm and uniqueness that you can now only find in the indie scene. Sad it didn't sell well enough to ever get a sequel.
    Red Steel 1... was a dumpsterfire that is better left forgotten about.
    Also I have to say, after seeing a few of your videos, you are a really good content creator. Keep going and hopefully you will break that algorithm barrier soon.

    The thing I really liked about the Conduit games was how you could customize your controls. For melee attacks I used Up on the D-pad, and shaking the Wiimote for quick turns.
    Conduit 2 is the game I vastly prefer for sure though. Love the level design and gunplay compared to the original. Maybe its just me, but I disagree on the verdict with it. A hidden gem, at least in my opinion.

    Respect your opinion of course but I disagree. I played these originally back in the early 2010’s as my first shooter…around when the conduit 2 came out I played the first and then the 2nd. I must’ve been 7 then and they were my first shooters since I was a nintendo kid. Just replayed them via dolphin emulator and I think they (mostly) hold up. I actually prefer the first for it’s charming (if a bit bargain-bin ish) aesthetic and music. Yeah, the encounter design isn’t always great and some parts are very frustrating even to my adult self (that drudge nest in the washington memorial with the columns can suck my dick). Still, little kid me had a blast and that’s what matters.

      Hey man, thanks for sharing your opinion and respecting mine, appreciate that. Maybe I'll have to revisit them someday via Dolphin, they ran pretty poorly on my Wii. I think that's important to talk about when reviewing these games, the real hardware vs emulation argument.

      I also have played many games with the Quest, but for me this game's performance really killed the experience. It felt unresponsive and tedious, where it really shouldn't have. I'd definitely check out some kind of remasters if they wanted to go that route at some point.

    Describing these games as "crappy" reflects a fundamental misunderstanding of their significance. Voltage Software was renowned for pushing the hardware capabilities of the Wii to the utmost limits, unlike other developers who often compromised on content and assets in their Wii ports. As someone who did not own a PS3 until 2011, I found that these games fulfilled the action shooter experience that Wii owners had been missing. It is remarkable that these games performed as well as they did at the time, while also maintaining high graphical fidelity. While I understand controversy can drive engagement, this critique misses the mark.
