I am moving to Orlando in a few weeks from Ohio. I am so anxious and worried. I hope I can make new friends and love it there. Thank you for the video.
Thank you so much for posting this video. It means so much to me to see it. It was a quaint but pleasant little dream of mine to move here from Miami in July of last year. Saved up a nice little nest egg & almost did too. Alas, financial Armageddon came into the picture & I had to help my parents out of a bind. Now I live in Canada & miss the culture & exhilaration of downtown Orlando very much. Every time I watch this video, I listen to some very nice relaxing Jazz, and look through the window of a world I yearn for deep in my soul. It's a little sad for me, but at least I have a window to look out of. Thanks for opening it. Bitter-sweetness.
I drove on the same road from International Drive and Kirkman to down town Orlando. It's amazing, but recently, people became crazy drivers. They drive speed .
Fashion Square Mall is only 3.5 miles northeast, and the Millenia Mall is about 6 miles southwest of 55 West. The Millenia Mall is newer and more upscale. The Fashion Square Mall has major expansion plans, including a new hotel. Both are worth a look. The Florida Mall on the south end of town, and the Altamonte Mall to the north have a lot to offer as well.
to the one concerned about high crime areas; mostly west of I4 between Colonial Dr (SR50) and exit to Orange Blossom Tr. (US 441) which is very dangerous particularly at night. That whole strip of Orange Blossom (known as OBT) that extends to Oak Ridge (southbound) and back up north to SR 50 is best to avoid
There are some nice places to eat right outside of 55 West on Church Street. Downtown Orlando is more laid-back than the Disney and attractions area. It is where the locals go to hang out. If you walk east a few blocks, the Lake Eola area is an awesome hangout with more restaurants, festivals, etc. Shopping is not my area of expertise, so hopefully someone can jump in and offer some suggestions. You should check out the farmer's market at Lake Eola. I think that it runs 10-5pm on Sundays. Phil
Welcome to Orlando 2018!! We decided we've miss our beautiful city so much over the years that we encourage those who come here to learn how to pick up after yourself, this city is turning into a trash pit and some of use just do not enjoy viewing trash everywhere. 🖒👌♻♼♽♺♲♳♴♵♶♷♸♹
Yes, I4 does run east and west overall, but through downtown it runs north and south. It’s a little confusing so I’ll try to clarify my comment. Thanks for your comment.
All of the areas we talked about are considered quite good. The area east of I-4 is the Arts District which consists of more high-end condo towers, the new Dr Phillips Performing Arts Center and the Lake Eola area. As for the crime, I will have to defer to the Orlando Police Department on that. I don't think about the crime since I feel safe in the downtown area. Let me know if you want me to show you around when you come in.
Jeff Stryker no sir. Although guns do add safety it's not anything like Chicago. People down here are nice and it's a good area. No worries! Just don't stay out past 11 and you should be good

About 2 blocks west of Lake Eola, corner of Robinson and Magnolia is Epic Axe Throwing. A new spot for locals and travelers to enjoy axe throwing.
