Absolutely disgusting! I found it interesting watching her squirm when asked several times what she didn't feel "comfortable" with. She said exactly enough by not saying anything!
They called the police to be there when you arrived. This was not a criminal matter when she refused their entrance and cancelled their party. The cancellation was a civil matter. Sue the shit out of them and the police. The cops knew it was civil and should have conveyed that to the park rep.
I understand their frustration. However, I’m not arguing with someone to take my money. I would have politely took my full refund and asked for her reasoning in writing and filed a civil suit. You have to beat them at their own game. I’ve been through similar situations with these kinds of people who think they can make up things as they go. I remained calm, put on my business face and quietly handled the situation behind the scenes.
We always not saying something to their faces. Our aggression makes them uncomfortable, so why not give them a taste of our ire. My daughter’s principle threw a rock and hid his hands, which made him comfortable. But for her teachers quitting this principle got to sit in his comfort while my family dealt with all kinds of fall out; we moved to DC to get away from this crap. Plus, his child’s day was ruined END OF STORY.

I wouldn’t even have stood there talking to them. Just give me my refund now and I’ll keep it moving and I would never do any business with them again. Once I feel discriminated against by a business I never return. Yep. And they started filling pools with cement in some Black neighborhoods which led to mostly little black boys sneaking out late night to pools unsupervised and Drowning. So there is a story behind t be stereotype that Black folk cant swim. If multiple generations never learned to swim because public pools and beaches said "whites only" what happens? Unless you were the rare upper middle class Black families who could afford a pool in their backyard, learning to swim would be a challenge because generation after generation never had the opportunity to learn. Summertime for most Black folk in the hood as even an 80s kid like me was turning on the nearest fire hydrant and getting splashed by cold water! My first time in a pool was in high school circa 1998 at a white classmate's house. And by that time I was happy just wading in the water on the shallow end. 😆

She had no right to cancel that party. She said that they were a public facility and had a right to cancel the party. That was a total lie. If it was a private facility that may have been true.

If you never rented from an venue as such please don’t comment. You have to make the payment in person & then they show you where your venue is located along with arrival time. Then you sign your contract with an deposit along with information of deadline of full payment. Everyone is not out to get Black people. Once that birthday party was posted on social media it was a wrap simple as that. Let not forget the numerous phone calls from anonymous people who wasn’t even invited or knew the teenager period. As a child, I was left out of birthday parties for classmates because of racism. Hearing the other kids discuss the party in class on Monday morning only heightened the shame and frustration I felt. Seeing this and other racist incidents returns me to those feelings. Please note I haven't mentioned what kind of racism I faced. Color? Creed? Culture? Does it matter?
The reason they're comfortable with 600 people everyday is that 590 of them are probably wht. What difference does it make if they posted it on social media or not, if only 250 people are allowed in the park that night ? I'm sure you a counter at the gate so when you reach 250 people you cut it off. That park gets funding from the state so it's not a private water park. I worked for park and recreation doing the summer when I was young back in DC. It was a place that parents were able to drop their kid's off in the summer time to keep them of the streets and keep them safe. We would take them to Kings Dominion and all other different events.

With this being a public facility. A Civil suit is warranted & should hold up with at least a partially unbiased judge...but it would take much time & resources. I'd never visit this park again.

This makes me so mad. I’m from Kansas City, MO and my family and I recently moved from KC to Atlanta, GA and this is one of the MAIN REASONS. I would’ve had to move to a place like Lee’s Summit, or another suburb of KC where they treat black people like this for my girls to be in a safe neighborhood and go to good public schools. We lived in Raymore, MO before we left and had to deal with funny acting white people in that area. Although I can’t fully protect my young daughters from dealing with racism I knew I could minimize the hate they’d receive for the color of their skin by leaving KC. I managed a T-Mobile store in Lee’s Summit, MO on Chipman rd, right down the street from that park for 3 years. I dealt with racism in some form pretty often. When they asked “where’s your manager?” while they looked towards one of my white associates and I replied “I am the manager” those white folk mouths dropped. I’m an unapologetic black man, with spiked culturally styled hair, and not nearly a crossover type of brother so they were shocked. I was very professional and treated every customer as an equal, I didn’t code switch no matter the race of the customer. I hope this family sues the City of Lee’s Summit for so much money and wins. Therefore, we can see true change in the culture of KC this type of stuff has to stop I spent 36 years of my life in KC and I’m sick and tired of seeing and hearing about situations like this.

Why is this been taken out of context? I thought the story was they rented the place for a party of 250 but a total of 500 or more showed up since the renters posted that anyone could show up. But since the party was only for up to 250 they only had enough employees to take care for 250 any more is a violation of safety which of course they wouldn't do. Looking at this video and watching the police standing by and blocking this family and their guest entrance is Deja vu. The same thing happened in 1957 when nine black students were blocked by the National Guard from entering Central High school as ordered by the racist governor Faubus. I am 38 years and have been swimming since the early 90s. If two or more black folks enter a pool, 5 minutes later all the white folks will exit the pool.
The same thing happened at the Hilton Grand in Orlando with us. We don't care because we had more room to swim. The Spanish speaking people stayed and we played with the beach ball and had a good time.
This is heartbreaking and I truly can't understand why are these places turning away people of colors for no reason whatsoever, this is the 2022 and it's coming like they are going back in time where every businesses have there signs up saying NO COLORS, WHITE'S ONLY! This is outrageous that hate is leading the front and love and peace don't mean much at all, I know that racism is out there still but it wasn't that openly, people would wait until you're not around to hear them talk, but this all came out since Donald trump's came into office and all these racist people coming out and think it's okay to express there racist ways without thinking about the out come, and it's sad that the innocent one's are the children facing it. It's so sad that children can't enjoy themselves just like other children do, and the sad reason is it's because of there skin color.

This situation and the video Roland Martin posted with Officer Brooks arresting the sister has taught me to wait for information. I was actually at Summit Waves Water Park on this very evening. One fact: this was a private party scheduled for after the water park closed to the public at 7pm. My family and I left at 7 pm, and there were already approximately 200 teenagers waiting to get in. A man told me and my husband that the facility canceled the party because partygoers were Blacy. Being a Black person, I got hot and was ready to call the news myself. My husband went to speak to an officer to ask why the kids’ party was canceled. The officer said there was supposed to be 250 guests, because of social media promotion 850 people had RSVPd and the park didn’t have enough staff/lifeguards to accommodate nor enough security. My teenage granddaughter was supposed to attend, and I called her and told her the party was canceled. My granddaughter was somebody’s plus one, so I know people were being added to the guest list without oversight. I wouldn’t have let my granddaughter go even if it hadn’t been canceled because there were too many teenagers; I would feel the same if the teens were white, Asian, Black, or any other race, creed or color. Too many teens and not enough supervision. I go to this water park often, and it’s pretty diverse, so I don’t know if what happened was racist or not. The contract will tell the tell. But I do know we need to be more vigilant when reporting news.

I think something wasn't fully disclosed here. I believe the social media comment was in reference to ppl constantly calling for info about the party who saw the random invite on social media. Truthfully, you can't control what gets passed around on social media unless you have some type of "cap" built in (rsvp, etc.). How many of us would want to be on the other end of this ordeal where you are constantly turning away ppl "beyond the max" because they saw a party on social media? I would not. They called the police to be there when you arrived. This was not a criminal matter when she refused their entrance and cancelled their party. The cancellation was a civil matter. Sue the shit out of them and the police. The cops knew it was civil and should have conveyed that to the park rep.
I understand their frustration. However, I’m not arguing with someone to take my money. I would have politely took my full refund and asked for her reasoning in writing and filed a civil suit. You have to beat them at their own game. I’ve been through similar situations with these kinds of people who think they can make up things as they go. I remained calm, put on my business face and quietly handled the situation behind the scenes.

They tried to call, multiple times, they tried to reach out to go over the agreement one more time before the day itself so that the pool wouldn't have to cancel; The family did not respond so they canceled the party and instead the renting family still just showed up with 500+ people.

So there is a story behind t be stereotype that Black folk cant swim. If multiple generations never learned to swim because public pools and beaches said "whites only" what happens? Unless you were the rare upper middle class Black families who could afford a pool in their backyard, learning to swim would be a challenge because generation after generation never had the opportunity to learn. Summertime for most Black folk in the hood as even an 80s kid like me was turning on the nearest fire hydrant and getting splashed by cold water! My first time in a pool was in high school circa 1998 at a white classmate's house. And by that time I was happy just wading in the water on the shallow end. 😆

If you never rented from an venue as such please don’t comment. You have to make the payment in person & then they show you where your venue is located along with arrival time. Then you sign your contract with an deposit along with information of deadline of full payment. Everyone is not out to get Black people. As a child, I was left out of birthday parties for classmates because of racism. Hearing the other kids discuss the party in class on Monday morning only heightened the shame and frustration I felt. Seeing this and other racist incidents returns me to those feelings.

I worked for park and recreation doing the summer when I was young back in DC. It was a place that parents were able to drop their kid's off in the summer time to keep them of the streets and keep them safe. We would take them to Kings Dominion and all other different events.

This makes me so mad. I’m from Kansas City, MO and my family and I recently moved from KC to Atlanta, GA and this is one of the MAIN REASONS. I would’ve had to move to a place like Lee’s Summit, or another suburb of KC where they treat black people like this for my girls to be in a safe neighborhood and go to good public schools. We lived in Raymore, MO before we left and had to deal with funny acting white people in that area.
Although I can’t fully protect my young daughters from dealing with racism I knew I could minimize the hate they’d receive for the color of their skin by leaving KC.
I managed a T-Mobile store in Lee’s Summit, MO on Chipman rd, right down the street from that park for 3 years. I dealt with racism in some form pretty often. When they asked “where’s your manager?” while they looked towards one of my white associates and I replied “I am the manager” those white folk mouths dropped. I’m an unapologetic black man, with spiked culturally styled hair, and not nearly a crossover type of brother so they were shocked. I was very professional and treated every customer as an equal, I didn’t code switch no matter the race of the customer.
I hope this family sues the City of Lee’s Summit for so much money and wins. Therefore, we can see true change in the culture of KC this type of stuff has to stop I spent 36 years of my life in KC and I’m sick and tired of seeing and hearing about situations like this.

I am 38 years and have been swimming since the early 90s. If two or more black folks enter a pool, 5 minutes later all the white folks will exit the pool.
The same thing happened at the Hilton Grand in Orlando with us. We don't care because we had more room to swim. The Spanish speaking people stayed and we played with the beach ball and had a good time.

Context: " the statement said that the cancelation of the party was strictly due to safety concerns around the number of people that were attending. Park officials said that when the family booked the party for their 250 guests, there was an agreement on the rental form that it stated that the party could not be promoted on social media.
According to the statement, on August 4, the staff at the water park came across a social media post about the party. The park claims that they reached out to the family on several occasions and received a slew of calls from parents regarding the safety of the event.
On the day of the party, "LSPR made the decision to cancel the event at 5 p.m. due to the inability to contact the renting party. Safety pertaining to the anticipated crowd size and the potential impact it might have on party guests and the staff was the sole reason for the cancellation," the statement said.
Over 500 people showed up for a 250 people event. No need to jump to conclusions... this was a matter of safety. LSPR said its administrator spoke to the family and apologized. The family has been refunded and offered a makeup party for no charge.

One fact: this was a private party scheduled for after the water park closed to the public at 7pm.
My family and I left at 7 pm, and there were already approximately 200 teenagers waiting to get in. A man told me and my husband that the facility canceled the party because partygoers were Blacy.
Being a Black person, I got hot and was ready to call the news myself. My husband went to speak to an officer to ask why the kids’ party was canceled. The officer said there was supposed to be 250 guests, because of social media promotion 850 people had RSVPd and the park didn’t have enough staff/lifeguards to accommodate nor enough security.
My teenage granddaughter was supposed to attend, and I called her and told her the party was canceled. My granddaughter was somebody’s plus one, so I know people were being added to the guest list without oversight. I wouldn’t have let my granddaughter go even if it hadn’t been canceled because there were too many teenagers; I would feel the same if the teens were white, Asian, Black, or any other race, creed or color. Too many teens and not enough supervision.
I go to this water park often, and it’s pretty diverse, so I don’t know if what happened was racist or not. The contract will tell the tell. But I do know we need to be more vigilant when reporting news.
I watched the whole video. There were not 100s of people there when the party was cancelled and the woman who cancelled it said she did so because she felt " uncomfortable " . never answered what she was uncomfortable of but im pretty sure you know. Also they had there own professional security for the party so your grand baby would have been ok i think.
Anthony you couldn't see the entire park. How would you know how many people were there?

Sounds like after a few too many calls she started getting aggravated. She probably came off rude to one of the callers and the caller said something she didn’t like and she said fine I’ll cancel this shyt. She was very hateful to ruin a child’s birthday party. She probably has no remorse. They should be sued for that.
This is what it’s like dealing with the government. Can’t tell you how many times I have been to the post office or DMV and dealt with rude employees. Yet people these days tell us to just do whatever they say and not question anything (COVID-19).

The problem that is that we are going to everybody else’s and spending the money on everybody else’s Parks and recreation The perfect solution to that is start creating and building our own so we can enjoy our own and keep the money in our community, instead of going to everybody else’s that does not want to welcome us Black people, The Bible says all things are possible lets find find the ways to create and build our own so our kids can enjoy it, because the Bible says all possible it’s time for us to get to work no more excuses, let’s get busy

As residents of that community, their money has gone into creating and maintaining that public facility. They have every right to use it. And please get up out of that doggone bible. It’s been nothing but trouble for us since those folks first made it up and forced it on us. Those aberrations of creation follow it less than anyone.

I think something wasn't fully disclosed here. I believe the social media comment was in reference to ppl constantly calling for info about the party who saw the random invite on social media. Truthfully, you can't control what gets passed around on social media unless you have some type of "cap" built in (rsvp, etc.). How many of us would want to be on the other end of this ordeal where you are constantly turning away ppl "beyond the max" because they saw a party on social media? I would not. On another note, if this was INDEED THE CASE, this facility should have canceled with this family BEFORE the day of the party and given their money back. PERIOD Beause they did not notify this family they should be responsible for every cost they incurred.

First of all, Let me say, that I am so sorry what these Black People endured.
What they experienced was so wrong, and racists, and I hope the people who discriminated against them be fired and discrimination charges be brought against the park.
United States Dept. Of Justice needs to be involved. A Civil Case needs to be filed because slavery days are over, and we as Black Americans can go into public places, such as parks, as well as other venues that other racists can go into.
We as Black People can now go into a front door to enter a restaurant.
Justice for what these Black People endured. President Biden and his Administration needs to also be involved in this situation.
Discrimination charges need to be filed immediately.

What I heard is they posted this event on social media and they had hundreds of more people show up then what was aggred upon.

I’m so tired of these folks. The new phrase for them is “You’re making me uncomfortable”. My son’s white supervisor said the same thing when she tried to get him sent home last night from work because he had to use the restroom. Her issue went from the duration of his stay in the restroom, to he’s making her uncomfortable with his smiling out of mere shock, to his laughter making her uncomfortable. Sounds like she needed to be on someone’s couch, not work. She has serious psychological issues.
