Had a few of them, LOVED your smile when you floored it. No power, but it's just the "MINI" feeling
I had a beige one on the farm when l was 15yrs old and I learnt to drive in it, brilliant little thing 👍
Your smile says it all 😁👍
The smile on your face is all the motivation I need to get my van on the road.
Get cracking mate! The end result is certainly worth it! I know its easy to get down mid way mate I had the same problem
@@classicminidetails8887 it's nearly there, just an exhaust leak to sort out and some minor fettling. I got the engine started for the first time back in September but I've had a rough month and haven't touched it since. I don't have a brake servo on mine so it was interesting to hear your thoughts having driven both with and without, it's something I might consider adding later but I want to drive it first.
Had a '74 van for my first vehicle. Loved it, noisy but I loved it. Used to go to Liverpool for a booze up in it. Parked it in the Liverpool University car park and slept in it.
Lovely little mini van. I am old enough to know that the mini van was usually supplied complete with hubcaps in the 1960s. They were every bit as entertaining to drive as a saloon too. Thanks for preserving this one so well.
My brother and I bought a brand new blaze Mini 1000 back in 1972. Loved
that car. Polished to an inch of its life. Fitted a flick switch to give
the wipers a flick wipe as that wasn't available then on the Mini. Also
fitted an under bonnet insulation kit as well as insulation for inside
the car. What a difference that made! A burglar alarm paid for itself
as cars parked next to ours were broken into while ours was fine. Air
horns were a necessity to prevent taxi drivers from cutting you up. One
blast was enough to make them hesitate then it was too late for them to
change lane. Happy days.
Stunning, just stunning, well done with the build
Thanks John!
Man, I miss my 1978 Van so much! Chocolate brown, golden roof, golden 10inch steel wheels 7J, Wood and Picket arches, roof vent.12G295 Cooper S head, Maniflow exhaust....
So much regrets of selling it!
Well done this build! Drive, enjoy and remember to never sell it!
The Mini van sounds and looks great!😎👍
Thanks mate 👍
Mini vans are pure magic , and so was the smile on your face , outstanding. Thank you. Regards Gareth Wiltshire UK. Gratitude. Quality. Respect.
Thanks Gareth!
No words required, your face said it all. Good to see it on the road👍
Thanks James! Am absolutely buzzing its finished now
Cheshire Cat comes to mind 😁 love it 👍
Thanks mate! Yours is looking good too 😉
@@classicminidetails8887 looks well in the garage light hopefully be just as good in the sunlight 🤞
Looking absolutely mint - well done. you can always tell a mini driver by the big smile on their face - you didn't stop smiling 😊
Thanks Paul!
Amazing van. Can tell by the smile on your face how happy you are with it and all the months of work has more than payed off
Thanks Liam, yes certainly worth the wait and stress over the past 12 months
The smile says it all. 😎
Super happy mate, its been a long time but super happy
Amazing van! As much as I love driving my mini I wish I was able to see it being driven around just so I can look at it!
They look great on the road
Hi Alex looking and sounding great, the grin on your face said it all.
Take Care Stay Safe Everyone Regards Dave
Thanks Dave! You too mate
The smile on your face tells the story
There is only one way to describe this "AWESOME", Alex.
Thanks Vince! Much appreciated
Fantastic
Just stunning
Thanks Jon
The van looks fantastic Alex, well done..... you can tell how much you enjoyed it from the smirk on your face, especially when you went a bit quicker!!
Thanks mate! Can’t beat a 3rd gear pull
Hello Toonie! Lovely to see the smile on your face as you finally drive your restoration, with the sign painting on the side. Your father would be right proud of his Son and what he has done with his life. I am also in a wheelchair, but I am confined to a power chair. I think the van is fantastic. If your alternator light is on it means you are running on battery power. you better get that fixed immediately before you run out of battery power and you are stranded by the side of the motorway. Keep that smile on you face! I right chuffed to see the van completed.
Thanks Shane, the fact my dad's name is on the back of the van was the deciding factor for the restoration as i wanted it to be absolutely perfect! I found out the belt was loose! Its currently not working at the moment either 🤣
Brilliant
Great to see you huge smile. Have you thought of putting a roof rack on the van ? A stainless and teak rack would look cool 😎
excellent van love it
Thanks Tony!
That smile said it all ,Vans looking and sounding awesome Alex .
Thanks mate, certainly worth the wait
Sounds and looks amazing, currently doing my 91 Cooper up now, got it running a couple days ago 👌🔥
Nice! Its great feeling when they fire up
Love the big smile when you're driving it! That's what it's all about!
Sure is mate!
Bought a new minivan K reg in 1971 for £550 drove it for ten years 97000 miles same engine and same clutch but numerous by pass hoses and top and bottom ball joints .
Thats awesome to hear mate!
I know on camera compared to in real life the sound levels can be different but it didn't sound so bad at 70mph....it sounded brilliant going up the revs in 3rd though. You guys have done an awesome job on it. You and yours stay safe
Its alot better now, i think having all the useless holes welded up had made a huge difference along with the head
My first time visiting the channel, wow!! Just wow!! Those minis are jaw dropping
Great sound 🙂
Thanks Wayne
watching in 1080p... not a blemish. It is a credit to you mate. Stunning. That smile ...
Thanks mate! Certainly made me smile
Your smile says it all!!
It sure does mate!
Great to see the van back out on the road, the engine sounds really nice👍
Cheers mate, it runs absolutely mint now
Congratulations Alex a real achievement and what a beautiful van 👍
Thank you! Certainly happy with it considering it’s my first ever restoration
Sounds great and nothing wrong with your gear change 👍
I tell you what, to see the joy on your face when you're driving is great & I can't wait to have that again #racevan ✌️
beautiful drive
You driving that van smiling like a Cheshire cat fair play mate your video and cars are mint 👌
Thanks Chris! Appreciate it mate
Its great to see you behind the wheel enjoying your van
Thanks mate, certainly worth the wait
What is the name of this body color?
Alex , l reckon if someone offered you £100K for that van right now you'd say rearrange two well known words ! Something's are priceless ! That headlining just needs tightening all round , a good trimmer would sort that in a couple of hours. Regarding the rear pillars . I'm pretty sure that a cardboard trim fits down the length of the pillar covering and thus protecting the lamps . On the right hand side it was cut around the filler neck /pipe. If l'm correct you will see 4 or 5 odd screw holes down the edge of the pillars. My first car was a 1963 "flat roof" mini van. 504 NOD . (£55.00p) in 1970! It was written off about 6months later picking my brother up. Some old boy in an oncoming Elf turned across my path , no where to go and end of ! Well, enjoy yourself !
Very nice. Fair play!!
Thank you!
Thank you for the shout out mate, it was a pleasure working on your car
Thanks for doing it mate
@@classicminidetails8887 anytime my friend, any time!
Great
You mad driving that in the winter mate after all that work gone into it .
Dry day mate, they haven’t salted the roads yet so can just get away with it. Usually as soon as salt hits the roads that’s the end for me until spring because even dry roads the salt still flicks up
Well done bro. Looks amazing, sound great! MINT!!!
Thanks Stu!
Perfection mate!
Thanks Dean
Hi Alex, the van has turned out superbly, my dad taught me to drive in his minivan back in 1971 (straight after my 17 birthday) passed first time. His van was that light fern green colour. I think it was an 850 because it had the long floppy gearstick...proper driving lessons were pretty expensive then, seventeen and sixpence for one hour! Ha ha, happy days..Stay well youngster.
Think that colour is called willow green mate, never used a majic wanf gear leaver before heard they are great fun
Primer is really looking great man. Can’t wait to see it painted....
Just kidding! Congrats 🎉🍾🎊🎈
I know you’re so happy to have it driving again.
Oh shut it you! Thanks mate 👍
Alex that van looks great, iam just waiting on the interior for the pickup and that's it finished, going to finish my welding on the van, hope it turns out as good 😊 well done 👍
Cant wait to see the pickup finished mate
You're an inspiration
Thanks Stewart that means alot! Hopefully my videos can help people just like me take the plung into classic cars
Very nice, I need to review the heater you have fitted as I might as well update my heater. I will retro fit heated seats and heated front screen.
I happened to be in your neck of the woods last week. Irlam for work. Stayed at the Holiday Inn just off the M6.
I will do something on the heater! It’s absolutely great
I used to drive mini vans in 1970s and we used to have seats fitted in the back. We would have five men in there and as many tools as we could fit behind the back seat and a roof rack with a couple of pair of steps and ladders on. The back seat was a fold down with no seat belts.Very cosy but an absolute death trap. Happy days. 😂 Nice rebuild.Take care 👍
Seat in the back are super rare now! Thanks for watching mate
@@classicminidetails8887 I love the old mini's. I tried to get an old mini van a few years ago but now very rare and pricey for a good one. I actually had a 1963 850cc mini with a floor starter and sliding windows in 1971. Wish I still had it. Sold it for £50.
Your face 😀😃😄😁 smiles per mile 👍👍
Certainly worth the wait
Hello Alex, thanks for a great post. Anyone watching me must have thought I was off my cake, cos the more you smiled the more I did, absolutely infectious so happy for you fella a lot of hard work has gone into that van and it's totally paid off. Wasn't that noisey to be honest and judging by the bkward facing camera it looked pretty damn quick too when you opened the taps. Keep safe fella look forward to more posts soon, love those cars Alex 👍.❤✌ to everyone
Cheers mate, yeah it does pick its feet up and go! Its the fastest mini i have drove up to now. Am sure the cooper S will be much better!
@@classicminidetails8887 I'm sure it will be, but I do like the idea of the van being a bit of a sleeper!. Is that right most if not all of that performance comes from the mods to the head?, what if any did you do to the engine and gearbox?. I ask as I missed the very early posts about the van. Cheers for getting back to me. 👍🤙
Absolutely brilliant mate. Top job, well done. Brings back being 17 again. Feel like having a mid life crisis, but haven't got the room on the driveway. New subscriber. 👍
Thanks Gary! Maybe one day you can make space!
I've just got myself a mini 850 with the only alteration being a 998 metro engine. I absolutely love it. From the wacky gearbox to the manual choke. It's a rolling resto but i love the thing. I also find 50-55 the best speed for noise. I can't hear my tape player if i'm going any faster! :D
Metro engines are great mate!
I did not really like my unassisted brakes in my Van. Like you said it's more of an on/off feeling. The first time I drove it it was in terrible rainy weather almost reared another car who suddenly braked to take a freeway exit. With the servo you dont brake harder but it feels more controlled and with less effort, at the time it was more to my liking
I am pretty ust to the brakes now, was a shock at first!
Nice, very nice (again). I notice a number of non-original parts e.g. Verto clutch (= Metro engine?), but I'll forgive you. Who am I to talk, with an Oselli 1400cc unit (just finished), goes like stink. Great that you chose a van, as they are so rare.
Yeah metro engine mate, I think a 998 van would be boring AF to drive. I'm considering plonking an S engine in it
Nice one Alex
Cheers Keith
With the van wheel caps and the paint damage they can do to remove, I knew someone who had the same issue .He cut a very small slot on the cap edge so a bent screwdriver could ply it off so no damage ..Just a thought
Interesting thanks mate! I may look into that when I do my cooper S
Something to be said about owning a van like they were.
i hope my finished van come out as nice. The only thing
that i might do is add some nice sound deadening and
some sort of a back up camera, so one can see what is
going on from the back side- one does not want dent
the back side !
your car looks great and sounds great !
Yeah i am considering a front and rear dash cam
Grinning ear to ear.
Certainly made me cheese abit 😂
Smiley face says it all! Great video & clearly worth all of your effort. Looking forward to seeing the electronic clutch. I have a 998 & would like to stick with the manual. I too drive an automatic. By the way, why are you removing the oil pressure gauge?
Cooper s valve springs wow that's an instant 10bhp.
😂
Cant believe you was in globe lane and duki (my area aha)
Local lad then i see 😉
I brought a brand new one in 1979 and it cost the pricey sum of £2100 and sold it 3 years later to a garage in Didcot Oxfordshire for a bigger van . This white mini van is still about if anyone knows where it is reg ARD78T. I put 8 spoke Weller wheels on it and a stainless steel front wood and picket nudge bar . Like I said anyone knows where it is . It's been off the road since 1988 .
PS sorry about the multi comments. U tube locked up on me!!!
Nice van mate 👍 what colour gray is this called thinking of paint mine the same colour
Culumulus grey mate
The smiley face says it all. Looking forward to the ECU video. By the way, why are you removing the oil pressure gauge.
Hi... I'm looking at a project car & I know a old guy who has a mini panel van & I have to say I haven't really seen one before...
Dose anyone know how rare the panal vans are?.
That's a fantastic van you have there!... R 🇦🇺
Smooth roof vans are pretty rare mate
Fantastic to see it back on the road. It looks really nice, sounds lovely too. Out of interest, where did you get the P700s from? One place is selling one unit for around the same price as a pair of them elsewhere! Don't know why, could there be fakes out there I wonder.....
(got my first classic Mini two weeks ago and love it!).
I got them from Huddersfield mini spares mate, i did buy them as a full kit
@@classicminidetails8887 Thanks!! I've ordered them now along with some decent H4 bulbs. Enjoying this owning a Mini fun!!
what type of suspension is used on the minivan
Cones and Hi-lo suspension so I can set the exact ride height mate
Nice video mate, it looks well. Have you had your eyebrows done though?
Gotta be smart for youtube right?
i always wonder why there is a drip line running from the windscreen , then continue down the fender behind the front wheel
OK. It's there because of the build process. For cost purposes the welding joints were folded outwards to make the spot welding easier and quicker. 3 panels meet at that point and to have them folded inwards would have been very much more labour intensive , and therefore more expensive. The drip rail moulding covers the joints. That's why the mini saloon has the same drip rail at the rear but has only has 2 panels joining . So when you hear that someone has deseamed their mini you now know what that means. Hope this helps.
@@johndavey72 thanks👍
How did you fit in the van with that massice smile???
Only just 😂
Hi there can I be really cheeky and ask what you paid for you van before you did any work to it? I'm interested in getting one, it's on for 9k, 1969 Morris Mini van just had new breaks, battery and tyres.
Hi mate I paid 14k for it in 2019. It was in very good condition its just I'm really fussy 😂
@Classic Mini Details Thats a really good price. I haven't been to see it yet its about an hour and half drive away 😩 so a bit reluctant to go! Loving your videos mate, keep them coming. Thanks for your reply 👍🏻
It's a very nice and rare van. What is the name of this body color?
Culumulus Grey mate
Nice van , is its paint job a SONIC GREY ?
Culumulus grey mate
Van porn to those of us weaned on Minivans. (Am in the process of restoring a 1981 van, owned from new.)
Hi Alex, great video! My first car was a K reg mini van, in the UK. Had lots of fun in that some of which was even legal. I paid £30 for it, in 1981. I was already a bit of a petrolhead, but that little van cemented it. I also managed to put a bigger engine in, as I had a mate who totalled his 1071cc Cooper S, but we managed to swap the engines over before the insurance company collected for scrap! I am also now a wheelchair user (I wasn’t then) but like you, enjoy driving on hand controls (now in South Africa). It has taken me 40 years, but I have finally got the car that I wanted, which is a bit of a step up from the little mini van!

Hi mate, the oil pressure line got in the way of the dizzy so decided to just delete it
