991.2 Carrera S: Should You Modify A Porsche 911?

- This week I was able to drive and review my first 'fan car'... that's right, a viewer lent me his 2017 991.2 Porsche 911 Carrera S, nicely optioned up and ever so slightly modded. Seeing, or should I say hearing, his Shark Werks exhaust got me thinking, should you modify a Porsche 911?
In the video I break down my thoughts on that very question and also compare this Carrera S to the same generation Base and GTS cars that I have already reviewed on this channel.
I won't scoop myself, but Porsche offers a pretty solid package right out the box and a myriad of 'trim levels' to choose from... another classic 911 review!!

What're your thoughts on modding a 911?
💨💨 dam nice!!💨💨
Aesthetic wise = yes
Performance wise = no. 992 carrera is better than 991.2. The new pdk itself is the killer. Not to mention its better front suspension setup.
@@christmasisawesome9348 the only 992 with a different suspension set up at the front is the new GT3, which would be awesome except for how much over MSRP those cars are at this point. I believe a 991.2 is 90% as good as the 992, with the missing 10% being technology and the interior, wet mode, ect.
@@obi-wankenobi7160 No actually. 992 still uses the Mcpherson struts but the front axle is wider than the 991.2.
Hey thanks for all the 991.2 content! It's really helping me on my search for one to own.
Happy to hear that!! Would love if you DM'd me a pic of what you end up getting @reonizz on insta 😎👍
Did you find the right one?
That intro is the last thing I was expecting. It was awesome!
Haha thank you man 😂😂

I bought a 17 base Carrera with the 7 spd about 1+ year ago and I have went down the slippery slope of mods since then. It was before the price boom with the shortages so I paid 69k for it with 24k miles, and a clean carfax. The base car from the factory is incredible by itself but the key is how much performance they left on the table to make room for its more expensive variants. So any mod such as an APR tune or a DSC pasm upgrade is only unlocking more of the true car’s potential and therefore IMo makes it a worthwhile mod. So far I have done a Soul exhaust/200cell sport cats/ APR stg 1 (480 hp)/DSC V3 PASM upgrade. The only other mods I am considering long term is to add sport bucket seats for track days and an LSD upgrade (car has open diff). I do see your point about just saving for a GT3 but I am not sure the GT3 is as good of a daily and would cost much more than a Carrera. I think it’s stiffness on the rough roads would render it less acceptable but is still the dream one day. I do like the dual nature of the Carreras, with its supple suspension for comfort on the street and its performance on the track! All 911s are great cars
I not only respect your opinion, but actually beeline your case (buying pre-spike) and the purpose driven nature of your modding all make complete sense !
I just think that somebody who today buys an S for >$100k, and then plan to spend $10k+ in mods, would've been better served buying say a GTS, etc.
Enjoy your 911... you stole it when compared to present day value!
Couldn’t agree more - stealth modes are the best. I’m planning 3 exhaust mod on my 991.2 T, sport cats, plenum and headers. All to boost hp by about 30-40. Hp. No ecu tuning. All to give it a little more push without pushing it into unusable power territory. That and I don’t want to mess with car dynamics designed by Porsche’s engineers.
Good on ya! The T is a perfectly balanced machine... a lot of people sleep on em, but they're 📈📈
As soon as the opening shots with him driving away with the spoiler up, I wonder is this really a Porsche person? No one drives around like that.
GT3 is definitely a step up from the looks, sounds and handling department, especially if you intend to track it. But torque wise the C2S is more superior.
Ya... I mean the GT3 product is truly next caliber on all fronts... even torque becomes a non-factor in any substantial comparison -- with that said, the C2S is more car than almost anybody 'needs' and is certainly a pleasure to spend time with!!
@@Reoniz Does your 991.2 have Sport PASM or have it lowered? I too have a 2017 C2S and your seems to sit lower which looks perfect to me. If you had it lowered, what springs did you go with and how do they compared to stock? Are they firmer, do the nose dip, etc?
@@winkstorm aww man I wish that was my car!! I believe this particular 991.2 did indeed have Sport PASM, as I remember the owner mentioning the only mod being that exhaust system!
Alright fine you earned a sub. keep it up with the porsches please. You’re helping me decide my first future 911.
Happy to hear it!! I'll do my best to keep finding Porsche's to film with 🙏🏼😎
Same What are you leaning towards ?
@@Jmill88 tbh 992 c2s. its just a new gen and i can write off depreciation because im a business owner. so its situation dependent but I kinda wanna put a turbo s spoiler on the 992. turbo s is way too fast and out of budget for me
Great looking 911 and the colour is the best and yes it's got great mods
The color is very nice, stood out compared to the typical black, white, and silver 😤
I bought my 2017 99.1 in July 2020 with 6100 miles in a 7 speed manual- extremely optioned with a sticker close to 140k new, and the owner installed a custom built exhaust which sounds unreal (he claims it was 13k installed)- Nonetheless, I bought it for 78k with 6100 miles on it.. Will be 3 years in July and I have 16k miles on it now. I was on the verge of getting a 992 or the new Aston in a manual but I have never considered tuning it I came across some of these videos... any guidance on the best first tune mod is appreciated... This is a whole new world.. perhaps this will keep me excited about the car for another 2 years....
Great review 👍🏽 Reo! Keep it up man.
Thank you !! 😎👍
@@Reoniz Reo keep up the P car content! Maybe do some air cooled stuff now and then.
@@arighosal4809 will do!! Yes I need to find some AC 911's to mess about with soon 👍
It is impressive the short time that the review car appears on camera ... it does not generate interest to see you talking and talking and talking inside the car without showing it. The central object of the video is the car, you can talk about its features without spending most of your time on camera.
I appreciate the feedback, I'll work on incorporating more car footage in my future videos
Great video and a beautiful car, what’s up with the pretzel sticker?
i put on the pretzel sticker to make it german themed and was going to add a sticker of a big boobed anime girl in a dirndl holding beer mugs but ultimately didn’t because it was going to be too trashy. so now it’s just the pretzel

Dope review
Thanks brother
Hey, what road where you on ? Thanks, great vid.
The Angeles Crest Highway, great driving road!
Best Porsche ever!!
It's up there!! 😎
You buy a car honed and improved by the worlds best engineers for the last 60 years, and you think you can do better by bolting on some bullshit china parts? The only thing you'll achieve is to void PAW, and make the car a huge risk to buy in the aftermarket. If you need to tweak your car why dont you get yourself some japanese or US piece of crap which actually can be improved? I own a 991.2 2017, 100% original, and intend to leave it there.
Nice job!
Curious if you have driven a G80 and how you compare handling and power of this car to a G80/G82?
Agreed
Whats the colour on this beauty? Sick review btw
It is graphite blue metallic, and thank you!!
Zero interest in the GTS due to the mandatory center lock wheels which are a pain in the a$$ -- such a shame. Zero interest in the GT3 due to being normally aspirated which means it's near impossible to mod so you're stuck with 490ish hp with a super peaky powerband shown by the anemic 368 ft/lb torque. With the C2S in this video, a basic off the shelf OBD2 E85 tune gives you 540ish hp (500hp on 92) with the same torque #s showing considerably more power under the curve than a GT3 and on par with a "Turbo", but less weight and look-at-me drama. It's capable of much more. "Tuning out of its class" is something I expect to hear from someone with an elitist attitude and a billionaire sugar daddy to which it's no issue to step into the next class effortlessly. The rest of us lower model peasants prefer the challenge of modding multiple classes up.
You can order a GTS with 5 lugs if you don’t like the center locks.
Lmaooo I was with you til the end there... keep in mind that ANY new 911 is far from "affordable" to a vast majority of people... but yes, I still believe that if you intend to spend thousands in modifications on a 911, you might as well grab a higher trim level.
I understand your take on the GT3 being a bit less torquey that the S and GTS, but there's more to the car than just it's engine and power figures, completely different class to any of the standard Carrera range.
Nonetheless, to each his own, my opinion is just that, mine, and you are fully entitled to disagree and do with your money as you'd please...
Lmao not a tall boy beast😂
Not at all!!!

Put in D
Hold both shifter paddle.
The car should no longer move
Rev
I'll give it a shot next time!
@@Reoniz My bad. I think you need to put it in N.
@@christmasisawesome9348 in N it seemed to have a soft limiter at around 4k, or maybe that's the newer 992's, one way or the other, I'll give the paddle shift method a shot next time
@@Reoniz You still need to hold both shift pedals. I am just not sure if you need to be in N or D. Try both.
@@christmasisawesome9348 ya next time I have a PDK 911 in my hands I will. I forgot about that method, but I think it works in D, and effectively puts you into N... I'll have to see
The answer is no
I agree! (Mostly)
You look too young have access to all these cars…. How do you pull it off
Hahahaha how young do I look? 🧐

Now I remember why I don’t buy used cars.
Hey kid, you can get doughnuts at Dunkin, stop abusing other peoples cars.
I have no idea why would anyone want to mod a 911. First and foremost no one wants to buy a modded car let alone a Porsche 911 -
You buy your cars to save for someone else to drive it ? That’s like marrying a woman and letting someone else have sex with her
I used to be a HUGE Porsche fanboy but I can't stand how ugly the 992 gen is.
992 takes some getting used to... luckily for you there's still plenty of pristine 991.2's and older 911's readily available 🤠
it’s like loving a thicc woman. it takes some time to appreciate those curves
@@maxp3764 well said my friend, well said 😤
To sum it up and to get to the point which I completely agree upon. Save your money if you need to and move up to another level of Porsche instead of blowing your money on an aftermarket mod that you could have put forward to the next level model. I would never mod a Porsche out - even the stuff you mentioned. The company spent many hours doing what it is doing to give up their perfect car and yet one takes it upon themselves to fowl it up. I would never buy a used Porsche that has been modified in any way.
Thank you for consolidating my thoughts so effectively !! Yes "what he said" haha
I just can't justify $10-$15k in mods when that's the difference up to the next trim level!
Softronic tune is $1500. HUGE DIFFERENCE in performance. I have a GTS and the next trim level is the Turbo S. 100K plus price difference. The tune is the best bang per buck in my opinion.
You don't need anything else but the tune.
I was going to buy the Turbo S, but now I'm satisfied.
