Anna is a big actress and singer in Sweden, got famous as a child in Astrid Lindgrens “barnen I bullerbyn” which is from the same author who wrote Pippi Longstocking. (All Astrid Lindgren stories are swedish classics), And now she voiced the Swedish voice of Pepa in encanto😆
This song could not belong to another year other than 2002... Popular music of that year is embodied perfectly here It would have been way too up ahead in 2001 and too outdated in 2003
actually there is playing Runaway instrumental music with backing vocals, that`s why she had to open herself harder. they later discussed if this was done wittingly. if u hear the song, the voice of the background singers sounds much louder in the first verse than that of the lead singer. the other version is that the microphones accidentally switched. Sahlene didn't understand anything on stage and only after watching the videos did the search for causes and culprits begin.
Something felt off but I didn't know what, now when I listened again I really heard it, it must have been devastating for her while standing there singing live, to hear the backing vocals overpower her voice. Excellent comment made, thank you!
@@DonChillum Estonian tabloid after the show: "Sahlene didn't share it on stage. First, the sound of the hall and the sound of the air are two things in themselves, and what the singer hears is the third. The sound team didn't do a good enough job, and that's sad. Not only Estonian`s, but in several other songs, the sound was wrong. The Belgian song also had problems. This work was done by a Swedish sound director. Strange, everything was fine during the rehearsals. Some think that the violation of the sound of the song was intentional. Do not forget that we were strong competitors to Sweden. In retrospect, it is difficult to speculate whether Estonia would have a better place if it sounded perfect. A small thorn .."
It's been 18 years and that silhoutte stayed with me, the moment I clicked on the video I recognized it instantly. This is masterpiece compared to "Everybody" lol early 2000s were a mess.
@@teddytete.mp3 May not be an amazing song. It’s good but not remarkable on the songwriting front. Though this really goes an extra mile given that Sahlene is such a gifted performer.
Sahlene in 2002 received that song less than 24 hours before the national final when the original Estonian singer (Ines from 2000) suddenly withdrew. The label called up Sahlene in Stockholm and asked “are you free tomorrow night?” and sent her over to Tallinn. She hadn’t even heard the full song when she said yes as her old PC couldn’t load it. She never thought she would win, she just thought she booked a one night gig

Νικόλας Ξεροβάσιλας you might be right. Because when she is singing together with the backing vocals, you only here her sing when the backings are harmonising. Such a pitty.
The song from Latvia was indeed boring and uninteresting. But Marie N nailed it with her customed-changing performance which was the only reason why she won. Luckily for both Estonia and Latvia for winning in 2001 and 2002 respectively otherwise no matter how good they are in the future, with ESC has turned into a political show which lead to small countries like them have very little chance to actually win again
Haha oh my yes! This youtube-autoplayed and I at first believed it was a "I believe I can fly!" cover! Can't believe the lack of lawsuit - quite good song though.
If I had a nickel for every time Estonia sent a good song sung by a Swede I would have two nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice
Will go down as one of the biggest cheers at Eurovision 👏👏👏 It was great to see such a supportive crowd despite her nationality! 🇸🇪🇪🇪🎉❤
I love this masterpiece and it should have won the Eurovision song contest
I just found out that she is the girl who played Anna in "Children of Bullerbyn". What a shock :O
One of greatest song what i ever listen in Eurovision!!!

She's not big in Sweden 😄
she was one of the players in Squid Game: The Challenge
"Like Buffy the Vampire" wtf? lol. I love this song though
She sang as a backing singer for Australia in 2016 now she is a Backing singer for United Kingdom 2019

It's 2018 and I sometimes find myself singing this song for no reason hahaha
Million times better than 2001 winner.
She is so good 😍😍😍
She's hot and can sing. I'm glad she's singing backup for Dami Im at 2016 Eurovision!
:O really?? I know, old comment xd
She did it to by Sweden 1999 Charlotte Take me to your heaven "
She might have also crossed paths with Ira in Stockholm.

Estonian commentator noted that she performed the song like she had won.
Ormi Ader she definitly had a special quality. Propably really experienced and really good.
I call this 'winners confidence' the best entrants exude it.
Considering she had the background singers mic and had lower volume she had to really do it all

Why were the backings' voices louder than Sahlene's voice?
Cause she had the wrong microphone.
