On these really miserable weeks (weather wise) it is so wonderful to be reminded of what wonders are to come. It gives me so much to look forward to. Thankyou both xx
These two videos are a lovely mish mash of the previous year & gives us some inspiration. All I need now up North is to get February out of the way. As we are 4-6weeks behind you when it comes to getting started
Thanks for compiling all these video clips. I enjoyed seeing how your year was organized. By the way, I first came across your channel when searching for currant cordials, so that brought back some memories of the summer.
So glad you enjoyed these vids .. and glad you found us 💜 we’ve actually been drinking black currant cordial today … from small containers I froze 😋 thanks for watching/commenting 💚✌️🌿
Wowowow… sooo much it’s unreal. I’d love to be able to do as much as you do. I never remember when to plant or sow stuff. Wish I could get it right. That melon I love melon.
Hey Cheryl, it gets easier to remember overtime for sure ... I nearly always forget to sow something at the right time 🤣 most things are forgiving within a few weeks or more, a few do need more careful timings! You can always refer back to these videos at the begining of the month and use them as a guide if that helps 💚✌️🌿
I will try your Carrot sowing tip, I normally have sucess with a sheet of black plastic, but as you pointed out, the slugs had a party! Lovely video thanks.
Thanks John, It is a life-style for sure 😊 and keeps us healthy and gives purpose - blessed 🙏 Thanks for watching & being our first comment on this vid 💚✌️🌿
I’m intrigued by the large fabric bags you tote around the compost in. Is it just easier to put the compost right where you want it than say, dumping a wheelbarrow into the beds?
Do you grow your own grains and nuts? (dry fatty types, not chestnuts) bc I don't think many people are getting nearly 80% (or even 5% in the US) of their calories from fruits and vegetables
We have planted quite a few hazels for the future - in our native woodland area - under the sweet chestnuts debatable whether we’ll ever get any before the squirrels do though!!! 🤪 grains are pretty much the bulk of the 20% we buy in. We have started trying things like amaranth as a alternative, it is very time consuming to process grain on a small scale though we find, hopefully something we can find a way with in time 💚 for now, I do buy in 20kg sacks of flour, oats and rice to fill that gap - thanks for watching/commenting 💚✌️🌿
@freedomforestlife is the 80% a calculation or just a guess? Bc 1 kg of oats has about as many calories as 5.5 kg of potatoes, 7kg of apples or 20 kg of tomatoes, bell peppers, or courgette and around 40kg in the case of walnuts or pecans. But if you really eat that much fruit and vegetables than all power to you 👐
@@phillippinter7518 we’re vegan, so yes, we really eat that much fruit and veg. At this time of year 2 of our 3 meals a day are 80-100% homegrown most days. If we ate fried potatoes and greens etc for breakfast we could be even more self sufficient 💚 We grow a lot of potatoes and beans for drying/protein. ✌️🌿
@freedomforestlife I'm vegan too, hence why I didn't mention meat, eggs or dairy. But Idk if ive ever met another vegan that ate mostly fruits and veg. Usually have a grain/seed based diet like many other people. So it threw me off at first, it's great you grow most of your own food though!
@@freedomforestlifeit's also great to have an influence online to prove that you don't need animals for a successful homestead. You're a lot more self sufficient than most other self reported "self sufficient" people. Not wasting time milking and butchering cows and cleaning out chicken coops and wasting 40X the amount of food as you get out of an animal goes a long way!
I didn't want these 2 videos to end. Thank you
Aww, thats lovely to hear - So glad you enjoyed them - appreciate you watching & commenting 🙏💚✌️🌿
