I remember reading an article, where they said that they used the Commodore Amiga computers to preview previous frames of animation on a monitor, before committing each subsequent frame to film. This saved an immense amount of time and money, not to mention it would allow the animators to do more complex animation sequences, where more than one character was being animated at the same time within the same frame. It reduced the amount of errors too, where some bits wouldn't match up properly.
