Hi Corinna!!! I've been able to get Oscar from an online seller at a good price, but here in Canada it's sold at the stores starting at $165.00! I'm glad to see that it has still held it's value in stores. I think it still smells exactly like it did in the 80's and 90's when I was selling it. So interesting that you find it has some of the same elements of Shalimar because I worked for Guerlain too and I never thought that at all. I totally believe you though! And the comparison of Shalimar to Le Leon is quite helpful because I have not been able to try Le Leon and would love to, but you've given me a great idea of what it smells like.
Labdanum is cistus/rock rose/and might even be the "balm of Gilead" mentioned in the Bible. It's a flower from near east/middle east and parts of Europe :) The scent can vary wildly depending on differences in growth, climate or whatnot. It's definitely leathery and can be poopy for sure, but I've also smelled some that is really vanillic, honeyed or almost smells like jasmine. I’ve had 4 bottles of labdanum essential over the years and they're all different. I hear people say labdanum is a full perfume in one note, and I agree
I've shopped Chanel online for perfume through their website, and it's a good experience. Free shipping, free samples and top drawer packaging. Just a thought to let you know.
"Dumpster Fruit" 🤣😂🤣 I have to say that I pulled out my bottle of Lattafa Mahasin Crystal which I LOVE, to give it a sniff. but I think I know what you mean. I do LOVE it though. I used to work as a waitress in a few different restaurants when I was younger. I know that smell. 🤣🤣🤣 I prefer the newest version of L'interdit to the original. I never cared that much for the original but that newer one, I WANT A BOTTLE!! Great and fun going through these with you Corinna!!
You've just named that Lattafa anomaly for me! Most of the Lattafa fragrances I've tried, have had those couple of off-putting notes in them and I could never put my finger on exactly what they reminded me of. NOW I know... It's hot, metallic dumpster fruit.😂 Spot on! I think it's something in the "base" that they use for an array of their perfumes.... But yes, it's in a lot of them, in both their male and female frags. The exact same couple of notes. I saw that another commenter mentioned the Lattafa Amir Al Oud... I'd bet you'd like that fragrance! It DOESN'T have those weird notes in it and it's one of those scents that the longer it matures, the smokier it gets... I personally think it's a Masterpiece. As far as my favorite fragrance... That comes down to two... They're Jubilation Man XXV from Amouage and Shalimar. I've loved Shalimar since I was just a kid. And I made the discovery of the Jubilation about five years ago... Both also Masterpieces! Cheers!
Call it macerating or maturation if you will, but yes it happens. Not only in arab frags. Lattafa Ameer al Oudh Intense is a prime example. It's a dupe for By the Fireplace. You're not going to get the smokiness until it macerated. Also Cloud sweetens upon sitting sitting. Clinique My Happy Cocoa Cocoa and Cashmere had to sit.. i was a musk bomb ( the kinda skin type musk) gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous!
@MyPerfumeMap you should try ameer al Oudh intense. It's gorgeous. You just have to give it time to mature. I remember being so disappointed at first smell.
Hello from UK 👋 Yes, perfume prices are becoming crazy so no wonder people want alternatives. I am still trying to get to grips with Le Lion 😅 Thanks for the video!
I believe that there must be some mix of jasmine, musk and citrus that they put in urinal cakes. My son always says that perfumes with that kind of profile smell like restroom 🤭 At first I was like "you must go to some fancy restrooms!". Then I started noticing that's always the same notes 🤷🏻♀️ Maybe that's the porta potty smell?
Oh yeah. There is some special blend that does into port a potty deodorizer that is really recognizable. It might be jasmine or orange flower. Unfortunately, Lattafa seems to use the exact same fragrance in some of their perfumes.
Having over 50 shades of GUERLAIN, many of Shalimar, I believe you have a Shalimar Eau Legere there. Possibly an Eau de Shalimar but my lids not like yours. Anyway, smell swell & be well! xo
For my 50th my dear departed mama got me: (discontinued) PROVIDENCE PERFUME CO. Divine Noir, PIERRE GUILLAUME Private Collection: Querelle (the LAST bottle at Osswald NYC!) & RASEI FORT Kolonya ♥❤💖 I'm sorry you didn't get a 50th perfume pressie...smell swell n keep these groovy vids acomin
So I think the Shalimar is an EDT based on the predominantly blue neck with the gold band; EDP is gold with a blue band. Civet is the byproduct from anal glands, so you’re not wrong about the fecal part lol..now they create it synthetically thank God 😭😆 and you’re right about labdanum being a leathery/ amber note. Great video,I always love to see your thrifting treasures..makes me want to go out “pickin and pawin” as my mom used to say 😂!
It must be an old bottle. Shalimar was amazing. Regardless of the civet ;) It did not smell 'fecal'. The new formulations are 'crap'. the late 80's/ early 90's were a great time for fragrances. Another amazing Guerlain was Samsara and the newer formulation smelled nothing like it.
I always refrain from describing perfumes too negatively and grotesquely bc some of my loved fragrances have been ruined for me by such reviews. Just throwing that out there… you have a knack for detailed and specific descriptions but you might consider warning people before you go on to do so. Just a thought!

In my case I find that my opinion changes as I get to know a fragrance more than noticing the fragrance has changed. Especially true for “blind buys.”

@ I’ll look it up! Thank you
Thanks for sharing your perfumes 🙌🏽🙌🏽🤩

Spot in with Ajwad 🤣🤣🤣. I have it and each time I dare to sniff it I recoil 😖

I bought curve crush because it sounded like I would love it but it's so light on me and I'm not smelling chai tea scent that everybody says it has
Enjoyed tfs all are nice Ajwad is metallic upon first spray then it becomes pretty 😂

Good point.
Dumpster fruit 😮😮
I also get the hot metallic dumpster from Lattafa fragrances 🥲
It’s unfortunate but undeniable
