Maybe Desmond Hart is a first generation gola? Maybe he is some sort of android with nanotechnology habilities or just a gola with telechinesis...? What is the source of his new found power? That is the question to answer in the next weeks...
That was my first thought after the ending. Desmond is either a Ghola or a Face Dancer in some early form. The ability to "burn" both Pruitt Richese - whom he was near - and the implication via the same methodology used on the Emperor's Truthsayer Kasha - whom he was not - might also suggest something Ixian and/or a tie-in to the portion of Omnius that was sent out prior to the end of the Butlerian Jihad in the Prequel books.
I'm right there with you. While I don't like the direction Brian and Kevin took in the prequel books with their take on Frank's "Thinking Machines," the brief glimpse was intriguing.
Strange question. I've never watched the movies. Could I actually pick this up or do I need to watch the movies first or can I understand what's going to be happening without the movies? You get what I mean?
@CaptShriver yea you should be able to pick this right up if you haven't seen the movies. It's set 10,000 years before the movies & prob wont connect to them too much outside of being set on the same universe. DUNE Prophecy feels more like a self contained story.
@Captshriver It's also in the nebulous zone not covered by the prequel books written by Brian Herbert (Frank Herbert's son) and Kevin J Anderson based, supposedly, on Frank's notes he left behind following his death. So the knowledge limits required are minimal. The first 20 or so minutes of the episode give you enough background 'lore' to understand what is going on.
When I first saw Dune many years ago, I couldn't figure out what the heck was going on. But I loved it so much I read the initial book. It did help me make sense of this world. You won't regret following this body of work.
In the Brian Herbert Books, it was AI that created mentats. . . anyone else notice they are suspiciously absent in the premire? With the hard AI stresspoints in the story, I am placing money on Hart being an AI loyalist/mentat.
Omitting one character hardly means they “screwed it up” I’m a book fan too but we need to remember this is an adaptation after all, not a 1 to 1 depiction
This cast is so great! Perfect premier episode, imo. So happy you are reviewing this too!
So glad you’re covering this. I hope it catches on we can get a live discussion.
It will be brought up by me on the Saturday show, count on it!
Im glad u are covering this

I like the idea of him being some kind of 1st gen gola. That could be pretty interesting, maybe he didn't survive the sandworm attack after all

I bet he is a Mentat. . . notice they are strangely absent in the premeire? (the order predates the empire and sisterhood and was created by the AI)
Travis Fimmel is quickly becoming a sci-fi powerhouse!
@@DocHayes420 totally agree. I don't think I've ever seen him put on a bad performance.
It's like he stepped right out of Raised By Wolves!
Pretty good first episode I thought. I wish they spent more time on the butlerian jihad though

Some of the details won't hit as hard if you haven't seen the movies. But I don't think it will ruin it.

I read the book & they already screwed it up. No Valorian Atraedies in it .

It's set in that nebulous zone between the prequel books.
