So two things: La Hee is a ancient word of power, which a Qitari in the Rak'tika Greatwood explain to you that means "wake up" in the Ronkan tongue, but can also be used as a greeting, in a interesting piece of lore it is said that those favored by the gods can even hear the voice of the ancients, carried on the wind as they travel through the Greatwood, which means the La Hee that you listen is literally ancients talking to you, meaning that not only you but your character is listening to this music/voice. Second thing, please watch Soken performing La Hee in the last Digital FanFest (because of COVID) if you guys didn't watch yet, was right after he composed the soundtrack of Shadowbringers and Endwalker, while fighting cancer, and he beat it, so it's like a moment of "releasing his demon" in the funniest way possible. There is other meme performances and "real" performances on the digital fan fest which you guys can watch too, even with the Dev team dancing and singing many iconics songs of the game, even Yoshi-P sings Under the Weight with The Primals.

21:23 to be fair, Thancred is an Archon too, so he (to use the college analogy) took the same gen Ed courses as Y'shtola and Urianger even though he majored in espionage.
Not even majored. Archons are experts who have advanced their chosen fields. The foremost experts, if you will. Or in terms we understand, they all have PhDs.
One of the neatest things about the Scions as a Heroic Band is that they're all massive nerds. Like a Justice League of nothing but PhDs. After Yda left the "dumbest" one among them in ShB is Thancred and that's only cause his PhD is in a different discipline (spycraft/espionage). He has basically a Master's in aetherology compared to the rest of the Scions' doctorates. (Tataru, of course, has an MBA.) And even Lyse-as-Yda wasn't as spacy as she RP'ed Yda to be. Really rare to see a band of action-fantasy protagonists that is literally NOTHING but nerds (until Endwalker, anyway).
As much as my heart is begging you guys to just plow through the MSQ, I can't overstate how much joy I get out of these analysis videos. They are fantastic, insightful, funny, and relatable. I look forward to them as much as, if not more, than your MSQ streams. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos, and share your experiences in such a thorough way.
I've loved watching them break down every step of their journey, as well as watching them on stream. I saw Zepla's reactions as she was going through it at the time, and I've seen Preach, Pyromancer, and Jesse Cox all go through it, and have watched Preach and Jesse's follow-up videos about the relevant plot points. But watching the boys' here have their discussions after every chapter is fantastic. It's like what my friends and I do after every new chapter of the MSQ, and I love it.
I just wish they'd pick a better spot for a break at times. Maybe have a trusted mod that's played the game let them know. Stopping in the middle of "When it Rains" for 2 weeks kind of numbs the emotional impact of the second half.
@@TurinTurambar200 They do have a curator that tells them different possible stopping points and what possible chat reactions to them are going to be. I think the curator just dropped the ball with the latest one.
One little touch that I love about the Ravel is the Secret of Mana cover art reference that you glimpse if you're the first person out of the cave following the second boss. You'll see a flock of pink birds flying from one side of the jungle to the other with the giant tree as a backdrop and it's a wonderful little nod to a great SNES game.
Looooove this, this part of the MSQ really got me super invested. I was already into it prior to this but after this part of the game I was glued to every piece of dialogue from then on. Also I wish they mentioned the cut scene bit after when they defeat the light warden there was this really nice character moment between Yshtola and Urianger and how she wanted him to describe the night sky to her and did so very beautifully in only the way Urianger can which lead to Yshtola giving him a little love tap on his ass after. It's such a nice little piece of character interaction that I very much enjoyed a lot.
A modern version of Rashomon would be Hoodwinked, where you first see the end part of the classical Little Red Riding Hood fairy tale, followed by each of the characters recollection of how they ended up there as they get interrogated by a detective frog voiced by John Cleese
I remember my reaction to that truth bomb being "cool, sympathetic motive. Still murder, though." Considering how many people die whenever a calamity happens to the source -- and what happens to the people living on the affected shards, as well. Regardless, they do a really, really good job here of making us feel for the villains.
@@TheIvoryDingo Which could very well describe us, too. How many innocent beast tribe members did we plow through going after the crazy tempered ones? How many Domans died when we flooded Doma Castle during the attempt to retake it? There's been plenty of moments like these where we've killed people just for getting in the way of us doing what we believe is right.
Great discussion on one of the highlights of ShB. I agree that this part is where Emet-Selch became one of, if not my #1, favorite character because he just gets so interesting and relatable in this zone. You mentioned people were unhappy he snapped Y'shtola's clothes back (hah) but that's the moment that actually sold me on him. He just did this crazy powerful thing with a snap of his fingers, and then he adds that little cherry on top of being respectful and putting everything back into place neatly. It's a great little touch that doesn't get recognized enough.
Yep. To me, this was a glimpse of what’s left of the real Emet under all the *spoilers*. For all his snark and insistence that we are nothing to him…..what he does he does *well*, and still has a few standards left.
The way the story takes off from the point you get this lore bomb is insane, the way they basically set everything up where you get these specific answers that make everything fall into place is wild.
This is so fitting. I was having a chat with my FC leader just a minute ago, and had to excuse myself momentarily to go to another zone. When he asked why I said I couldn't think straight, all that was in my brain was lahee. And then this pops up in my notifications.
Well fuck me, I thought I might flick through and see what y'all thought but the breakdown you did of the story was brilliant to watch. Keen to see you play through the rest of Shadowbringers, and extremely keen for the platythrough of next expansion.

Thancred is an Archon specialized in infiltration, recon and sabotage. Which mean he will have basic education in aetherology, if for only to know what to look for and qualify events. So yeah, it's not his main thing, but he gets the idea. It's same as we have basic understanding of astronomy - stars, planets, gravity - but that doesn't mean we all are astronomers :)
I absolutely loved the "EMERGENCY"/siren overlay. That was delightful. Whole video is as usual great stuff. Absolutely looking forward to your next stream and all the rest. You've gotten to one of the great parts of Shadowbringers, and several more amazing moments await. And I completely agree about Emet-Selch. He's incredibly, almost painfully human here--he is single-handedly humanizing his whole group in that scene. It's tragic, but also beautiful.
You guys are going through the EXACT SAME THING we all did when it came to that cutscene after Qitana Ravel! And I sometimes forget (somehow) how much Emet-Selch's VA knocks it out of the park with his performance. ALSO! You should look up Soken's live performance of La Hee from the 2020 FanFest.
I love watching your hypotheses as to what may be going on. You're always shockingly accurate with some parts and totally miss the mark on others. It's just so fun to watch. The Qitana Ravel is one of the best dungeons in the game. The music there is also great. Also, huge fan of La Hee. Hope to see you react to Soken's live performance of it, assuming you haven't already (I'll check your videos just in case I missed it).
Also, forgot to mention, part of what makes Emet such a wonderful villain is that he's not truly evil, though he's lacking in empathy. He has a relatable goal, even if his means of achieving it are horrific.
I don't think it's ever explained but the reason Y'shtola was in the Lifestream is because she may have used the same trick that got everyone out of trouble at the end of ARR. The flash of white light that comes out of the pit after she falls is a little subtle hint of that. Emet just repeats the same trick The Elder Seedseer did to bring her back again.
It was explained a bit earlier during the Gaius return cutscene but the three main Ascians, Elidibus, Lahabrea and Emet-Selch are unsundered. The other Ascians were sundered and aren’t as powerful as those three. That’s why they’re called the Paragons of the Source.
This has in fact NOT been explained. In fact, the sheer fact that the Ascians are ancients or connected to them at all is revealed in the same cutscene Emet says Zodiark and Hydaelyn are primals. Gaius just says that the red masks stand above the black masks and that within the red masks there is a heirarchy. "Those set adrift with the shards clearly stand below those still joined to the source" Spoilers Since, again Emet's reveal that the Ascians have to do with ancients comes later, we don't know what an unsudered is. Other than Varis' vague speculations which seem to imply that unsundered people no longer exist.
@@nahuel3433 I didn’t say that it was revealed that they were ancients but the wording ‘those set adrift among the shards’ implies that the non-Paragon Ascians are sundered.

It's so unbelievably nice to see you spin theories like all of us did, when this dropped, It's so interesting to see how close certain Theories can get to the truth. Emet Selch and his Legacy are sprinkled all throughout this expansion and with every step you get closer to the truth! Thank you!
I just want to say that I'm SO excited you guys have gotten to this point. This is one of the biggest lore bombs in the entire MSQ, completely turns everything you thought about everything happening inside out, and this plotline is why Shadowbringers is considered one of the best video game stories ever written. This is where you start seeing Emet-Selch as a sympathetic antagonist, where the Ascians become much more than an evil mustache-twirling death cult. Where you no longer know what to believe about Hydaelyn and Zodiark, where the baddies start becoming heroes and your perception of your patron shifts and skews from what you initially thought. Gods, you guys are in for such a wild ride, and I cannot WAIT to see your reactions to the end of Shadowbringers. Genuinely one of the best video game endings EVER and will 100% make you both cry. 3:40 its kind of obvious Yshtola was mad at the Exarch for sumoning her naked, yet again. That's why she just burst laughing when it happens a third time during Rat'itka forest questline
You think Shtola was mad? What about an Alisae who was hopped up on adrenaline from being yoinked in the middle of a battlefield and is already a loose trigger? I'm surprised Exarch isnt wheelchair bound 🤣
She mentions in the Night's Blessed's home that she grew tired of the secretive nature of the Exarch, which echoes her frustrations with Urianger and his alleged secrets.
I’m a little surprised they didn’t mention Urianger using rescue on Ranjit. That part had me very hyped. Oh on the topic of Thancred, I think it helps to remember that he’s still an archon. So he’s going to have SOME knowledge though I understand why it’s strange to you when he also says “This isn’t my thing.” I remember Y’shtola using her before teleport before and immediately I was like “Yeah no she’s fine.” I didn’t understand why my friend was expecting me to be upset there 😅 It was a good scene though. On first meet with Emet I’ve been convinced he’s been not that bad? That’s bc of his comments after every cutscene if you speak with him. He’s like a grandpa that has stories he wants to tell but no one has been willing to listen till us? Then the Y’shtola thing happened and it convinced me- he sees something in us as mortals he never saw before. Not to mention how he reacted to the mural I remember thinking that Hydaelyn was a primal back in ARR when Ifrit was tweaking over you not getting tempered. People claim it’s a blessing of light but I always got stuck on Ifrit because if anyone would KNOW how their powers worked despite being full of themselves- it’d be a primal.
Reply has spoilers for later in Shadowbringers..... Emet, I think, was trying to judge the worthiness of the Scions to learn the truth of the world. Remember that most Ascians are, in fact, sundered individuals who, due to their skills, are told the truth of the world and recruited. The Scions have, as a small organization, done more to hamper the rejoining than any other faction has in history. Even excluding the PC.. Beyond that, Emet is bored and depressed. How many eons has he basically stood alone in the world? Lahabrea was basically a mindless fanatic who was so focused on restoring Zodiark that Emet couldn'treally relate to him. And Elidibus had no true memory of the past. He stood alone, and in his mind, the quest we've embarked on is pointless. The first will fall regardless, so why not amuse himself by observing their greatest foe willingly kill themselves. And possibly see if they could get some real talent in the Ascian ranks. Plus, to a degree, he respected us. Our skills, our resolve, our accomplishments. We've accomplished so much while sundered it probably made him feel nostalgic, wondering what we could have done if whole.
@@linkblade0 Considering information discovered later, and from the shadowbringers fiction on the website, Emet could see the color of our soul, same as he saw Yshtola's. That probably had something to do with it.
@@linkblade0 I think you’re absolutely correct. I always felt like he wanted to see how worthy we were, hence his reaction later on after Vauthry. But even then I don’t think he TRULY meant anything he said. I think he was disappointed but still thought we had something in us, WoL and Scions included. It’s also why I felt he enjoyed talking to us so much about things, after every cutscene that we can chat with him, he’s so willing to just yap away then pretend he doesn’t care. I believe that like you said, he was just happy to have another person he could talk to. And seeing our soul possibly he thought to recruit us? Or at least get us to better understand why the Ascians do what they did.
@@ChainedFei This too Im certain he saw who we were and decided that he wanted to see things play about. It makes sense too, the other two unsundered were either too bloodthirsty or just lacking in knowledge to recognize us unlike Emet. He probably saw our soul and felt giddy like our old new friend had.
I'm so glad you guys got to this point and i wish I could've been there for the stream! This was one of my favorite moments of ShB and was a theory i had since 2.5 and seeing my theory possibly talked about in this scene made me so happy
To explain why Thancred sounds smart talking about aether, he, like the other Scions are Archons. Think of Archons as getting a PhD, Thancred's major was different than Urianger, but you are surrounded by a group that are all doctorates.
Emet is probably the best written JRPG character of all time, its honestly criminal that such an amazing story as this will never get the mainstream acknowledgement, just think of if they invested millions into making FFXIV a live action re-telling.
"I think Emet might be my favorite thing about Final Fantasy so far." There was a video a while back where you said Zenos was not your favorite villain or something to that effect and I commented there to just keep going (implying someone else here MIGHT take that title), because I was so excited for you guys to meet Emet and certain that you'd love him. I'm glad to see that was a correct line of thinking ^_^ I hope you continue to enjoy how they build out his character as you work your way through the story. Honestly... to me, I wouldn't even say he's a villain, once all is said and done. As you experienced in this section of the story, he has a very good reason for taking the actions he takes (and has taken for millennia). He's kind of more of an antihero or antagonist, rather than a villain. He's certainly the hero of his own story, and perhaps, aspirationally/if he fulfills his goals, his people's (at least from his perspective).
The biggest thing about Emet you're going to like: Largely speaking, as is clear by his question at the end there: He is not wrong. Not strictly speaking. Comparatively villainous in his views, yes. But not incorrect.
Bro, I’m at the gym right now and that intro had my laughing like an idiot because I was so engrossed in the hype of a new video. People looked at me like I’m crazy, haha!
*rubs hands together* Oh their questions... it's gonna be great >:D Also, how great is it that you can't even see Emet's face when he says "For our world... for our people." He purposefully turns away so you don't see his expression.
I am sincerely enjoying watching your journey through this game and I look forward to the day you get some of the answers you seek. Some in Shadowbringers, some in Endwalker. But yes, "Hop on Pop" is thematically important and there is a reason why, in Pokemon, I had a Tsareena nicknamed "Hydaelyn".
I would bet money that Soken knew exactly what he was doing, making La Hee start like that whenever you finish a cutscene. The man's a troll who also happens to be a brilliant composer. Been loving these videos, and glad that you've been enjoying yourselves.
I just realized this, but that sounds exactly like what's happening, because if you think back to your first primal fight in ARR against Ifrit, Ifrit mentions that we're already "someone else's". Adding a little bit of context from Emet's retelling, it's very easy to expand that to us being "someone else's thrall" or "Hydelaen's thrall". Ifrit can't enthrall us because the mother crystal already has. I didn't think about it until you guys mentioned it, but, as soon as you did, it took me right back to that conversation with Ifrit.
No love for Urianger receiving a friendly butt slap from Y'Shtola, as well as his extravagant description of the night sky? (btw, best use of popup white text in a video to date. Great comedy work in the video this week!)

Oh yeah, and he performed in front of Keiko Matsui, a world-renowned pianist with 30 years of career invited for the event, her reactions are priceless.
@@iMazaky She makes it that much better
Maybe you don't remember it, but the world being split by Hydaelyn was explained back in the Antitower by Minfilia.
But at that point the player has so little context to work with that it generally goes above everyone's heads.
I remember when I saw that cutscene months ago and spent HOURS ranting to my friend my theories on what it could mean.
I even tried to count the shards in the cutscene to see if those made 13, god it was a fun time.
@@ziongamer6905 Do they actually count to thirteen? I tried before but the scenes that showed the crystal often cut away before I could make a good head count. Not to mention some of those shards also look awfully tiny compared to the others.
@@clericneokun If I counted correctly, yes, the bigger ones actually do go to 13 lol
But it’s also hard to be 100% certain since they float and Bob so I very well could have just tricked myself 😂
@@Outlaew I know. I was making a simple analogy for the sake of explanation.
Thancred was probably banging the student aide.
I feel ripped off. My university didn't offer an espionage major.
(Tataru, of course, has an MBA.)
And even Lyse-as-Yda wasn't as spacy as she RP'ed Yda to be.
20:51 He didn't fall, Urianger used Rescue to pull him into the pit. Thus confirming that Urianger is that kind of healer
Love the La Hee drowning out everything! 😆
I remember my reaction to that truth bomb being "cool, sympathetic motive. Still murder, though." Considering how many people die whenever a calamity happens to the source -- and what happens to the people living on the affected shards, as well. Regardless, they do a really, really good job here of making us feel for the villains.
FF14 has a lot of "cool motive; still murder" villains.
Moral relativism, and all that.

@@Maria_Erias Isn't the plot of copperbell mines that we're putting down a slave uprising?
Great discussion on one of the highlights of ShB. I agree that this part is where Emet-Selch became one of, if not my #1, favorite character because he just gets so interesting and relatable in this zone. You mentioned people were unhappy he snapped Y'shtola's clothes back (hah) but that's the moment that actually sold me on him. He just did this crazy powerful thing with a snap of his fingers, and then he adds that little cherry on top of being respectful and putting everything back into place neatly. It's a great little touch that doesn't get recognized enough.
Yeah, disappointing but it fits and demonstrates the incredible power and skill of the Ancient Mage
It's the respect that does it for me. Adversary or not, he respects her, and by extension, us.
He knows what its like to have things torn asunder and displaced from how they are... so he returns her to you, just as she was.
Yep. To me, this was a glimpse of what’s left of the real Emet under all the *spoilers*. For all his snark and insistence that we are nothing to him…..what he does he does *well*, and still has a few standards left.
Now if you feel that Emet-Selch is a theater drama kid, remember that is was Emperor Solus who gifted the Prima Vista to the troupe.
21:20 Thancred may have already lost the ability to control aether, but he's still an archon (scholar), so his aether knowledge is still there.
Opening made me crease up on the subway. Thanks!
Jesse Cox eating well this morning with this nutritiously wild speculation.

Btw. Every time emet is there as an NPC you can talk to him and ask him a bunch on different questions

@@DreadKyller And they immediately come back to Emet no matter how far they are already lmao
The way the story takes off from the point you get this lore bomb is insane, the way they basically set everything up where you get these specific answers that make everything fall into place is wild.
I love the predictions bit of these videos. AAAAH. IT'S SO EXCITING! KEEP GOING, BOYS! I love it.
Glad you enjoy it!
This is so fitting. I was having a chat with my FC leader just a minute ago, and had to excuse myself momentarily to go to another zone. When he asked why I said I couldn't think straight, all that was in my brain was lahee. And then this pops up in my notifications.
Hahahaha..... You see? The La Hee can't be denied! Let it take over, RIIIIISE UP AND DESTROY!
Well fuck me, I thought I might flick through and see what y'all thought but the breakdown you did of the story was brilliant to watch. Keen to see you play through the rest of Shadowbringers, and extremely keen for the platythrough of next expansion.

How do these guys not get more likes?! I can't wait to see them finish ShB and EW!
I'm here to like your Integra Type R avatar (but also thanks for the love).
I really LOVE "Civilizations" (the name of the La Hee track), but I do understand that odd tonal shift. That opener was great, btw!
I love post qitana Ravel cutscene. The voice acting there is incredibly good. The strong emotions can be clearly heard in voices of Emet and Y'shtola
Rashomon is a legendary film. Even today, it stands up very well.
Anyhow now we are getting into it. 😃

@@danielisbell At the end of the first stream where they entered Rak'tika, they did make time for "Do You Know.. LaHEE"
20:50 I had forgotten about Urianger Rescuing Ranjitt off a cliff, lmao
"Those set adrift with the shards clearly stand below those still joined to the source"
Spoilers
Since, again Emet's reveal that the Ascians have to do with ancients comes later, we don't know what an unsudered is. Other than Varis' vague speculations which seem to imply that unsundered people no longer exist.
@@nahuel3433 I didn’t say that it was revealed that they were ancients but the wording ‘those set adrift among the shards’ implies that the non-Paragon Ascians are sundered.
I love hearing your thoughts about this game! Literally you can talk about any part of the game and it'll be a good time. :) Glad you're enjoying shadowbringers!
It's so unbelievably nice to see you spin theories like all of us did, when this dropped,
It's so interesting to see how close certain Theories can get to the truth.
Have fun and enjoy the story!! Remember that the star still has secrets to tell ;)
And Emet walks away with a flippant wave of his hand. Perfect note to end a video on.

3:40 its kind of obvious Yshtola was mad at the Exarch for sumoning her naked, yet again. That's why she just burst laughing when it happens a third time during Rat'itka forest questline
I never quite picked up on the reason
You think Shtola was mad? What about an Alisae who was hopped up on adrenaline from being yoinked in the middle of a battlefield and is already a loose trigger? I'm surprised Exarch isnt wheelchair bound 🤣
She mentions in the Night's Blessed's home that she grew tired of the secretive nature of the Exarch, which echoes her frustrations with Urianger and his alleged secrets.

Damn. Probably the best video intro yet. Well done! Literal LOL.
I’m a little surprised they didn’t mention Urianger using rescue on Ranjit. That part had me very hyped.
Oh on the topic of Thancred, I think it helps to remember that he’s still an archon. So he’s going to have SOME knowledge though I understand why it’s strange to you when he also says “This isn’t my thing.”
I remember Y’shtola using her before teleport before and immediately I was like “Yeah no she’s fine.” I didn’t understand why my friend was expecting me to be upset there 😅
It was a good scene though.
Not to mention how he reacted to the mural
I remember thinking that Hydaelyn was a primal back in ARR when Ifrit was tweaking over you not getting tempered.
The rescue into pit is cannon.
@@ChainedFei This too
Im certain he saw who we were and decided that he wanted to see things play about. It makes sense too, the other two unsundered were either too bloodthirsty or just lacking in knowledge to recognize us unlike Emet. He probably saw our soul and felt giddy like our old new friend had.

Love the opening
The biggest thing about Emet you're going to like:
Largely speaking, as is clear by his question at the end there: He is not wrong. Not strictly speaking. Comparatively villainous in his views, yes. But not incorrect.
As jarring as the Lahee music is while you quest thru the story, the nighttime version of Lahee is so calm and beautiful.
Respect to Major General Toot-Toot Minimus of the Za-Lord's Guard 😂 absolutely love that you have read The Dresden Files 🎉
You might be the first person to ever ship the Exarch and Y'shtola...

*rubs hands together* Oh their questions... it's gonna be great >:D
Also, how great is it that you can't even see Emet's face when he says "For our world... for our people." He purposefully turns away so you don't see his expression.
Good job guys, this video really gets the hype going for tomorrow!!!
I loooove your theories. It reminds me of my own when I went through this back when this first came out. Hell yeah.
I feel like this video should have ended just after that sad walk with "LA HEE".
Oh shit. A Dresden Files callout? This IS the content I was looking for!
