This is amazing! I was playing the 1.5 version yesterday and was thinking this would be amazing with the zero tolerance link cable but figured it was impossible. The widescreen option and image improvements are incredible. You guys are truly making the impossible possible, thank you so much!
One thing that would be good would be to be able to open the map with a fast click on the Mode button, unfortunately the game has this deficiency, version 2.0 for min does not work, I get the message after the introduction "P_grouplines: miscoubted" Does not leave this screen
It's really nice to see a port of doom still being worked on for the 32x. It great to see what the HW can really do when someone spends the time needed to push it.
The only option I would love to see Resurrection would be to add an NTFS version. It's slow compared to the release here in the states. I've ever determined it controls differently between the PAL and NTFS version by upping the clock speed of the PAL version and simply running, turning, and firing. On the NTFS version I can make tighter turns and shoot faster. I know it's nitpicking but I so enjoy 32x DOOM that it's almost second nature to my muscle memory! Great video by the way!
According to the internet interviews the Saturn version was down ported to exclude the VDP-1 in particular. Leaving the game to run only on the Saturn's SH-2's and presumably the VDP-2 for output. So, Doom 32X Resurrection is a fair comparison to the Saturn version, which was gimped due to unrealistic corporate demands.
The game looks absolutely incredible on a crt with the new color mode and higher resolution, unfortunately I can’t switch to cd audio from my mega cd 2 anymore with this new version Other than that this update is just insane
A bugfix release will be available soon. We're aware of the Audio CD bug and Vic has already fixed it. Thanks for the feedback and for playing it! Stay tuned!

@@RetroSegaDev Barone and I did most of the network testing. Vic handled the new network setup menus, making it easy to start and join a network game. I've got a CDX + 32X as well as my old Genesis Model 2 + SCD Model 2 + 32X. At one point, the 32X on my CDX quit working, and I had to disassemble the 32X and clean the ribbon cables to get it working again so we could finish the network coding. A lot of effort by the three of us and networking turned out pretty nice. Then Vic dropped that bombshell that he got 320 mode working. Yeah, it was time for a major version number bump. :)

To be fair to the Saturn, I don't think the Saturn Doom port taxes the VDPs in any meaningful manner - and I don't know how long they had to slap together a close-to-PC-as-possible version. The SH2's are still doing the brunt of the work. If Vic's better-optimized codebase was ported to the Saturn that would be interesting. Even without leaning on the VDPs for anything (except maybe simple backgrounds), the even-larger pallette and faster SH2's would potentially make it the most faithful 32-bit port ever. Oh and the beefier audio subsystem hardware opens more options for audio. Plus if any additional optimizations are made to the SH2 code (not sure there's any headroom) it could apply to both versions. Then again, it could be possible to lean on the Sega CD's ASIC to handle the sprites. So in that regard there would be a path for a 32X CD version to compete for the title of best 32-bit port. Then again it would probably be STUPID hard to get everything running in sync, and I've heard the ASIC was a bitch to get running as-intended. See Sonic CD's 3D levels for an example of flawed ASIC code running like dogshit.
@@RetroSegaDev More than Thunderstrike, Formula One, Joe Montana, etc? Not sure what's it's limits are, and can it handle more stamps at a good framerate if you're not using it for a scaled BG? Do all onscreen stamps share the same 16 color palette?
One palette unfortunately! Everything shares the same Bus. Which makes timing a nightmare. You'd have to transfer tiles from the word RAM to the VDP and that's where the bottleneck would get you.

Okay so to use the Sega mouse for Doom Resurrection you need to have it in port 2 and a normal controller in port 1. To use zero tolerance link cable it needs to be in port 2. Is it still possible to system link and still play with a controller and mouse? Would you need the Sega Genesis multitap 4 player adapter and if so how would you wire it???
I wanna have 2 full tower of power set ups with the CD audio linked together outputting to 2 Retrotinks and have both with controller and mouse. All to bring to life that PC style system link Doom party with mouse controls on a Genesis. Something console gamers of the time could only dream of.

Great stuff. Could be great to see more games with link cable, Rock n Roll Racing for example.
OR Zero Tolerance Screen size modifications.
Awesome! Every update to this just makes my younger self happier. Truly happy seeing the 32X port get the love it deserved.
Me too 😉
And of course, the 32X CPUs are basically underclocked Saturn CPUs. I wonder if overclocking the 32X to match the Saturn would break too many things.

The ASIC only does 16 colours and the frame rate would tank the more sprites were on screen. It would hinder the game and not help it unfortunately!
