Thank you for this tutorial. Helped me out. And has history shows, British know sailing and naval warfare. This game has opened my eyes to how bad ass England must of been in those days.
Or you could call it what it is which is the cannons / carronades firing zone. which is part of it's firing arc which is the max transverse angle for the guns from bow to stern.
For me this is the best channel to learn stuff about naval action . Ramjb is good too but i can´t understand his heavily accented English . Keep up the good job and greetings !
Sweet video bro. I'm looking forward to the video on manual sails. I'd like to see if you tack and gibe, and what you do if you're in irons. I see the wind is shown on the compass. What about the sea current? It will certainly be a good video for all the young fellas that don't know the difference between the head and a halyard.
+HR USA Currently, the only bearing the sea has is the rolling of the waves, which forces you to manage your heel, but other than that no, there are no currents or anything like that. Maybe it'll be added, but i dont think the devs are trying to create a 100% true to life sailing sim. You can see i was in irons briefly in this video, and didnt use manuals to get underway again, luckily, auto sails gets you there eventually but it's slow and can be frustrating. Thanks for watching :)
+AxeManAnt Is there an advantage to arming carronades early in the game? You said something about not having much of a crew till you rank up. I would think smaller cannons, or carronades would be the way to go. Historically they took a smaller gun crew. also does the size of the guns have an affect on the speed, handling, or draft of the ship? I'm really interested in the crafting part of this game.
+HR USA yeah, arming carronades decreases weight as it would have done in real life. A 24 pounder cannon weighed about 2 tons while a 24 carronade weighed about a quarter as much if I remember correctly. The other advantage of carronades in game is their higher damage capacity, but at a large accuracy and range cost. I much prefer to use cannon in game if I'm honest.
actual in game ships was close to getting something called a privateer British but dont know wat its for im still in the cutter and upgraded the gun to basic 12pounder cannos but now sure wat guns are best used
ah, ok, my history videos on the ships will include some info about what they're like in-game. As for the cutter, the only twelve pound weapon the cutter can use are carronades, which are short range cannons but much less accurate than cannons, get in close to do maximum damage with them.
Might be just me.. but doesn't random fire mode fire off all the guns faster than just rolling fire? I haven't really clocked it, but it feels to me like all guns are fired faster when in random mode rather than rolling fire which fires each gun with half-second intervalls.
Yes, you're right. Random fire does tend to have all your guns discharged quicker than rolling fire. But it can vary. I tend to stick with a rolling fire mode, as I prefer the uniformity of it and the fact I know the pattern of fire.
Just call it the targeting marker, or firing line. Anyhow, thanks for these vids! And as an afterthought: it's actually a nice surprise to have someone who's interested in and apparently good at PvP take the time to explain stuff to newbs... most of the time the PvP dudes I've had to endure had pretty much all been elitist pricks who thought they were the only ones entitled to play whatever PvP title it was at the time.
+Shabi-laka Gaming No, you cant fight in open world, all battles take place in a "battle instance" where the physics, ship handling and scaling is a lot more realistic.
Life happened. Jobs, wife and kids. Still around and use this channel everyday. But no time to post more videos im afraid. Thanks for asking though. Im glad these videos still help people even though they are old and a little outdated.
I was reluctant to buy it too, but I got it on sale and it's worth the money. The game is not complete yet so it's not 100% good, but it's enjoyable and if you like the age of sail I don't think there's a better game out there. It's a gorgeous game and the dynamics have improved some from the time this video was made. If you have the money, it's not a bad investment.
Well AxeManAnt I've had my eye on this game since it was released on Steam and you sold it for me! One request. You add me on steam? lol I don't think my friends enjoy these IP's as Much as I do and Well much as everyone knows sail alone your prolly not gona go far in pvp sail with a friend or two and your golden lol Is it just one server? Cuz I'm State side. Btw I might be German/American but no need to fear me and the 88 on my name is my birthyear lol not the other thing... May your sail fly true and you kick more ass brother, hope to hear from ya take care.
I have a lot of videos to go through to complete the gauntlet of your collection but I've found them to be quite entertaining and informative
+Don Scott Glad to hear it, thanks for watching :)
Just getting started with this game and videos like these are super helpful, not many like it out there, thanks so much. Cheers 🍺
You're one of the reasons I found out about and joined Naval Action, lol. Love the vids they really help out!
Thank you for this tutorial. Helped me out. And has history shows, British know sailing and naval warfare. This game has opened my eyes to how bad ass England must of been in those days.
You could call the white aiming thing the 'Firing Template' or the 'Ghost Sights'.
+SuperLordPedro "Ghost sights" I like it :)
Or you could call it what it is which is the cannons / carronades firing zone. which is part of it's firing arc which is the max transverse angle for the guns from bow to stern.
It already has a name. 'Sector of Fire'. The term has been used in the military for centuries.
@@deanramseyer9003 Thanks for the reply to 4 year ago me :)

The grey firing area is called a fire sector
Uhhm what button do you push to fire the cannon????
I don't think that part of class was covered.?

+Michel Klotz (Proschlatter) You're welcome, Thanks for watching :)
are you going to give a guide on the different ship types ?
+zippa .way you mean on the different kinds as in schooner, sloops brigs or frigates irl? or do you mean the actual in-game ships?
actual in game ships was close to getting something called a privateer British but dont know wat its for im still in the cutter and upgraded the gun to basic 12pounder cannos but now sure wat guns are best used

I think we should call the white strip "Field of Fire," or "Field of Fire Indicator."
Might be just me.. but doesn't random fire mode fire off all the guns faster than just rolling fire? I haven't really clocked it, but it feels to me like all guns are fired faster when in random mode rather than rolling fire which fires each gun with half-second intervalls.

Are you still active on this game? I need help moving to Pirates. I've had it with the English.
Firing Arc and \or Firing angles
we have been calling it firing ark. 😊
Do you plan on releasing a crafting guide?
I figured out how to shoot single before broadside
Just call it the targeting marker, or firing line.
Anyhow, thanks for these vids!

Or the Firing cone or firing arc....
That'll do piggly, that'll do...
also can you fight in open world or do you need to load into a small match map ?
+Shabi-laka Gaming No, you cant fight in open world, all battles take place in a "battle instance" where the physics, ship handling and scaling is a lot more realistic.
What's happened to the man ant?

MOdels look a bit clunky...are they still like this
Well i thought it was very good. Thanks.
I wanna get this game so bad, but it costing so much and the reviews are putting me off... but it looks so good :(

disappointing.
old age cannon make huge flash like 380mm gun?
+Gear5 ZYF LoL... a 42 pound cannon was bigger than 380mm I think you need to crack open a history book.
