Hybe acquired 100% of Be:lift Labs, whereas it used to be owned 48% Hybe and 52% CJ&ENM (Mnet). When Hybe acquired all the shares from Be:lift Labs, they lost the relationship with Mnet. BUT! Mnet had the I-Land trademark. So I-Land was Mnet's doing, not Hybe's. Hence I-Land being moved to Wakeone with Wakeone contestants and trainees, since Wakeone is an Mnet Label. Hybe had to create a new show, R U Next, to create the next Be:lift Labs girl group and aired on MBC.

I love the girls, but they would not be able to have a concept that works for all of them and frankly the all deserve better than fading into the background of a concept they don't suit for 7 years, or even worse gaining no recognition because the group never get's itself a solid conceptual identity. I think Fuko, Gyuri and Minsol would all be great together in a lighter concept and Juwon, Sujung and Yuju (alongside Yui) could also become a fierce girl crush style group. Combine them with some of the RUN girls to beef up the numbers and we would have some winning groups on our hands

okay everybody is calling iland 2 rigged but i really think 'rigged' is a bit far fetched. there was def favoritism but like we literally got the best possible lineup to have gotten, we got jungeun, jeemin, jiyoon, koko who is in majority of peoples picks and we got sarang an all rounder who has a big one-pick fanbase. i think a lot of people just say its rigged because fuko didnt make it. we got to pick 5/7 members and people mainly complain about the pds pick mai and saebi... i love fuko but like her one pick fanbase just wasn't big enough and if she did make the group she would of been overshadowed by the other vocalists, i think she'll be better off in another company other than wakeone and in a group where she can shine more! of the recent survival shows id honestly say I-land 2 has been the least rigged but thats just my opinion :)

I think you’ve properly articulated how I feel about the show. As someone who’ve watch the first I-Land, I feel disappointed in the fact that it lost its authenticity compared to the first season. The judges basically became mouthpieces for production, and the line up was predictable (but I do think the group has a lot of potential). But we’ll just have to wait and see.
Side Note: I remember someone saying that even if Fuko was added into the group she wouldn’t be utilized. Sadly, it makes sense since Jiyoon and Jungeun are probably gonna be the main vocalists. I love Fuko (I voted for her), and believe that she deserves more than a few seconds in a song.

my thoughts on the "riggory" of i land 2. this turned out way longer than i expected; i just couldn't stop ranting lol. just my opinions, don't come for me 🙏
tbh iland 2 was not as "rigged" as a lot of other survival shows. the final lineup is amazing and the girls made it who absolutely deserved to debut. i'm glad that most of them are older contestants. (honestly crazy to say that they're older, bc they're so young. but in this day and age they're on the older side for debuting idols 😭 i hate ageism in kpop but that's a discussion for another time)
i totally agree with the sentiment that some trainees got way more screen time and storyline compared to other trainees, and the original ground contestants never really stood a chance. but honestly this happens in every survival show, so i'm not too surprised. what i am salty about is the fact that the judges were definitely NOT objective at times. especially for the "rain on me" performances and the entirety of part 2 ngl. fuko, yuju, sujung, and juwon deserved so much better.
but other than that, all the eliminations in part 1 made sense. they simply weren't as talented as the remaining girls. other than yui, umji, and minsol- none of the girls in part 1 had the talent of the girls who made it to part 2. perhaps this made it "boring" but i'll take boring over ACTUAL "riggory" any day. i guarantee if contestants like lingling and yeeun made it to the finals or even debut, people would be up in arms about choosing visuals/popularity over talent and the show being rigged.
a good example of this is RUNext. i will genuinely never get over the fact that all of the most talented contestants didn't make it. to this day, people are still talking about bad boy unit and the other talented trainees. we don't need a shocking twist where the girl who looked frightened on stage makes it to the debut lineup (sorry wonhee. i love u girl.) we just want a talented lineup. one of the reasons you love mai is probably bc she's one of those less talented trainees who had a major improvement arc and shockingly made it to the final lineup. that's totally understandable, and i'm also very happy for mai. she deserves it as i said before. it's just that iland 2 (mostly) prioritized talent, and it's also what i'm looking for. i don't really care about the entertainment value of shocking twists as much.
anyway i'm adding fuko, sujung, yuju, and yui into my pocket of ex survival show contestants who didn't make it and i'm waiting for (along w jihyun, jiwoo, chanelle, jeongeun, yurina, and more 😭) i'll always miss u guys 💔

I think the best part of Iland 2 is we know the group coming out of it is extremely well rounded. We all know there are conflicts of specialties if any of Gyuri, Yuju, or Fuko would've been included instead of Mai or Saebi. We have two for each main position as well as two visuals, two centers, and a distinct FOTG. We also still have a good group of leaders in Jungeun, Mai, and Jiyoon (even though I don't think she'd be interested). I think we have the best ground available that wouldn't cause conflict.

It also didn't help that there were only 24 contestants, again, most of whom just felt like girls who had pretty faces and some singing/dancing ability. I think both of these factors contributed to the show being boring overall and the final lineup ended up being very predictable. I just hope IZNA doesn't end up in the Black Label dungeon like Somi, or that WakeOne manages their career sloppily like Kep1er.

The overall vocal level averages to a similar level to other 5th gen group with much room for improvement. The rapping skill is also very encouraging but also it does not take much perceived rapping skill to be able to perform it well. The group overall fills the holes other members have perfectly and this group has a good chance to be successful even without the flopping Wakeone causes.

@@Stay.2022. I mean sure similar edits are reused, but I wouldn’t say it’s entirely the same. If this was the 8th season of produce or something, I’d feel like it was repetitive, but the structure of each survival show varies so I’d say it’s valid to point it out. And excuse me if I’m wrong but from my pov, you seem to be somewhat irritated that the title calls the show “rigged” and you’re pointing out that it’s not more rigged than usual. But what I’m trying to say is that this video isn’t trying to dismiss the show or criticize the line up, but it acknowledges that all survival shows are somewhat unfair, and is just acknowledging the specific instances of favoritism or unfairness in the show. The “riggory “ part just comes from the fact that this video series is a parody of another RUclipsr’s series

cut the crap, there was favouritism ofc, but they kinda need a group who can do smt of everything, they also need a cohesive group, they can't have people who can't do cute concept alongside people who can only do cute concept. This does not make it rigged; rigged is that "group" (illflop) some company founded by a couple of dement who ran away from an asilum (be lift), that is rigged and 3 out of 5 memebers are a good add to another group but not a group (Minju and Yunah are the only 2 I save) Iroha and moka can only dance, Wonhee can, I mean... be cute I guess, not on stage since she seems a cat on the highway. @rmj9693 2 месяца назад +3

Honestly this was way better than R U Next and Iland and since it was ran by Mnet who has experience in survival shows. You can see how much they have learned from their past. I would rephrase this the "bias" of I-Land 2, but I am assuming riggory is to get more viewers. Tbf I think in order to have a successful group for a continuing debut is to have a few concepts in mind (which they did) and with that you need those who can fit the role/concept well. I think the dynamic of having some extremely strong contestants to those who are not as strong may be due to lack of ready to go contestants, interest in seeing how they do, and possibly already filtered who they wanted out beforehand (before they even come on the show). So tbf they already have a bias because they are basing it on concepts that we were not directly presented but the producers were presented with. I think others forget the producers are probably edited too and in most cases generally get the heavy criticism for their critique. I think this show is satisfying in a sense there is common agreement of who should debut. I don't think it is a bad thing to have an idea who is mostly going to debut by the 9th episode especially with the low number of trainees debuting. If there were more one picks Fuko would be there instead of Mai. Yui would be there instead of Juwon. I think Juwon was let down by producers in part 2 and the viewers overall in the show. I think Yuju played it safe and by the time she was improving and standing out it was too late to comeback. I think Sujung had it the worst overall. I would be frusterated if I were her. Gyuri did not fit the concept, but will only benefit from the show.

cool analysis. I have watched this show while watching Girls on fire, survival of a vocal focus-kpop group with ex dream academy / katseye nayoung (22) ex produce 101 hwang se young (29) ; and makemate 1 bg of kbs with ex boys planet han yu seop, ex niziu 2 miraku. this 2 later shows didn't have a large youtube impact.
They did some against normal criticism of this type of show :artistst actually creating their performances, a good proportion of adult-age participants, isnt just luck based (like universe ticket) good artist can be saved from elimination, public voting isnt the only metric. Almost no evil editing, low in story line / more objective type of evaluations specialy with girls on fire. But made me think that I really like to know how judges actually evaluate.
but that may the lack of "DRAMA" / storylines could a reason for lack of popularity?
there where some outstanding artistic performances in girls on fire, majority of the initial 25 could " beat" the vocals girls of i land 2. but it dosent make one watch 10 episodes due repetitive format of this type of shows. Unfortunally I think that apealling for the human side , the easier way, with cheap melodrama may be the key of the success of reality shows.
I asked for another more seasoned kpop fan by photos of candidates who you think will be finalists in ma1 ? when there where 20-16 they got 5 of the final 7 right.
not that the finalist are "just visuals" they are talented boys and young men.
but the show did a promotion on the voting app , that you had to op in, not advertised on the tv show, that from episode 3 or 4 until episode 8 if you guessed right the final line up would got get a cash prize of around 5k usd. So people could be persuaded to vote not on their favs, but who "will make it".
it really make me think who actually can win, I usually like this type of show to see the development of the candidates so underdogs / high skilled are my favs.
this show in a sense did opposite of boys planet, favor in screentime a lot of the non korean participants from episode 3 onward and in the youtube extra content.
the top 3 finalist where non korean.

I think there were also some really big moments of viewer manipulation. For example I think Mnet played in Everyone's faces about Jungeun. People were convinced that they didn't like her, but really I think Mnet tricked people into Panic voting for her. For example, in all of part 2 they consistently gave her low scores and had the judges give her harsh and uncalled for feedback. This obviously made people upset (boosted ratings) and made people panic vote (giving Mnet major ad revenue). Even though her storyline in the episodes continued to be positive, show her growth and potray her well. I.e. Mnet gave her low scores and improved her persona increasing her vote counts even more. It is was really evident from the jump that Mnet liked her, they ranked her #1, but more importantly in the beginning they consistently gave her as many parts as possible. This was evident in Final Love Song (however, she was definitely suited for the main vocal position because that positon was more like main vocal+lead dancer), but really really obvious in Drama, where they sidelined a stronger vocalist in Jiyoon to make Jungeun Shine. I also think when there evil editing strategy for Jiyoon failed, they realized that they could use the juyoonz "beef" to push the storylines of both girls and once again drive up voting and ratings.

I thought they were trying to drop Jungeun cause korean opinion of her was low.
...but you have to admit that Jungeun deserved to debut and everyone thought she was the Heeseung of the show at first. I don't necessarily think they would choose her as a producer pick though...so I'm glad that if it was manipulation, mnet did that to save a talented trainee. Cause if they hadn't done that, then people might not have prioritized her enough to debut.

Saying ILAND2 was rigged is a reach. They did show favoritism and unfairness at times which was definitely annoying but I think every survival show has those moments. The final lineup is pretty strong and they deserved their spots. Some people need to realize that just because your favs didn’t make it into the lineup doesn’t make the show rigged or unfair.
(Many of them were robbed though)
Also, think about IZNA’s image. Since they are being produced by TEDDY, they’re probably going to have a girl crush concept. So some people wouldn’t really stand out in the group regardless (Such as Gyuri and Fuko, who shine more in a pure type of concept).
Although I still think Fuko was robbed, here are some reasons I think she didn’t make it.
For one, Fuko was one of the best vocalist in ILAND2 but was overshadowed by Jiyoon and Jungeun which prevented her from sticking out as much.
Secondly, she didn’t really have a storyline. She wasn’t outstanding nor bad. Her whole journey in ILAND2 was just a straight line instead of having ups and downs.
Lastly, She didn’t step out her comfort zone. (Understandably) She went for concepts that suited her, but in order to stand out you have to step out your comfort zone. Every concept she did was pure (After Like, La vien en rose, into the new world, ect) so I think people just saw her as “same old fuko”. Every IZNA member did multiple concepts, even when they didn’t want to because they didn’t think they’d stand out.
Even if she made it into the lineup, she wouldn’t shine as much because it’s not a concept that suits her. But I really hope she debuts soon in a group that can make her shine.
Compared to other survival shows, I think this one came out pretty fair.

You need to watch ILAND as well. The evil editing, and the push certain members recieved was really frustrating at times. Though i supported most of the ones who were pushed as i deemed them pretty talented but it was a waste of potential for the rest who were just shown as intimidated as they were from the ground and the bias is reflected in the final rankign as well with original grounders basically missing from the podium completely.
