  • On Saturday 8th September 2012 the Viking Festival at Largs in Scotland was expecting a display from a Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft of the RAF, callsign Leuchars 7.
    The aircraft ZK327 was positioned into Prestwick Airport nearby to Largs, along with a 2nd backup aircraft. The pilot, Squadron Leader Scott Loughran asked for permission to make a "performance" takeoff and that is just what we got!
    15 mins or so later and he was back at pace, screaming down runway 13 performing a high speed turn and landing 31.
    Thanks Scott - nice one! MUCH appreciated by those present!!

    Fun fact - that is me in the red jumper at the beginning with my 87 year old RAF veteran grandfather. He told me that he wanted to see the new jets they had these days and to his last day he said this takeoff was one of the most incredible things he has ever witnessed. I even met the pilot, Flt Lt Loughran and told him of this and he was pleased he made an impression. I will never forget this day and I'm glad it's documented in this video as an amazing aircraft takeoff and amazing moment for me happened during it.

    London to Birmingham in under 6 mins. From brakes off to take off vertically in under 8 seconds. A truly world class air superiority fighter aircraft. The modern day equivalent of the spitfire .

      *_This_* could easily drown the sound of a Eurofighter even from several kilometres away. Its fuel pumps alone had more power than the total power output of most large aircrafts and ships.

    @Liberal Smiter
    "(Eurofighter Specs) Maximum Payload: 14,330lbs Max Thrust: 40,465 lbs (F-35 Specs) Maximum Payload: 18,000lbs Max Thrust: 43,000 lbs The F-35 has superior operational radius, superior payload, and more thrust."
    The F35 Drizzle doesn't have superior radious. Where did you get that stupid notion from?? The F35 Drizzle original combat radious was from 730nm to 550nm depending on the variant. But because the F35 Drizzle is a totally failure and couldn't meet those requirement the KPP had to reduce the requirements so it wouldn't look at total white elephant.
    So the C variant needs to meet 600nm and at the moment it just about reaches that.
    The B variant needs to meet 450nm and achieved 460nm.
    A variant needs to meet 590nm but still falling short at 580nm.
    The typhoon has a combat radious of 750nm.
    But even then the combat radious is restricted to weather conditions as the F35 Drizzle can't fly with in 20nm of a lightning storm in fear of its fuel tanks being ruptured. Kind of ironic when you think about it. The F35 is nicknamed the " lightning" but yet a real lightning storm is the f35 real enemy!! Failure much???
    Why are you comparing two totally different engines in size and mass that's like comparing an F1 engine to an indie car engine. Just doesn't make sense. But I will say this. The f35 Drizzle does have more thrust but still only capable of M1.6 so it's either too fat or poorly aerodynamically designed.
    weapon payload!!! How can the F35 Drizzle of 2 paveways and 2 missiles be superior to the Typhoons 8 paveways, 6 missiles and 1 drop tank?

    • @bagdaduk
      @bagdaduk 7 лет назад +1

      ***** what.. with two paveways bombs and 2 AIM missiles.. boubt it

    • @bagdaduk
      @bagdaduk 7 лет назад +1

      Ben Daulton the same can be said for the F35. the only internal payload the F35 can carry is 2 paveways bombs and 2 missiles. if you want more then your gonna have to stick them on the wings. so in either situation, the typhoon comes out better

    • @bagdaduk
      @bagdaduk 7 лет назад +1

      Ben Daulton ok let me tell you. all versons on the f35 can only carry a maximum of 2 paveways and 4 AIM missiles internally top speed of m1.6 if the typhoon was to carry the same payload it can still maintain M 2.0 helped by the fact that the typhoon can carry up to 4 AIM recessed under its belly. so the only drag will be from 2 paveways. now if you have ever noticed the f35 from forward view, the f35 a fat and a wide thing. its not as aero efficiencent as the typhoon also have two tail wings, so when you add more weapons it's gonna add to the already draggy airframe. not to mention the amount of thrust the typhoons ej200 produces. some sources have stated the typhoon can supercruise at m1.6 with a weapons loads out albet it limited to missiles only.
      So regardless of what the F35 can do, it's always gonna be behind the typhoon unless they upgrade the engines.

    • @bagdaduk
      @bagdaduk 7 лет назад +1

      ***** I've been following the F35 and typhoon for years. So I kinda know my facts. We are talking about what weapons the f35 and typhoon can carry at top speed... All versions on the F35 carry the same internal payload. But there performance and combat range differs with each versions of the F35. The VTLO being the weakest link of them all. So as I was originally saying the f35 can only carry 2 paveways bombs and 4 missiles internally. In the same weapons configuration the typhoon can carry that and still maintain a higher speed.
      The f35A has a range of 2,200KM the eurofighter has a range of 2,900KM all internal fuel. You start adding drop tanks it will effect them both. But the eurofighter is developing CFTs which would help reduce the drag and add extra range.
      As for comparing thrust of a modern jet like the F35 to a 1970s f15 isn't really ideal.

    • @bagdaduk
      @bagdaduk 7 лет назад +1

      Ben Daulton aircraft fuel range is rather like a car manufacturers MPG estimate. it's not gonna be exact every time when you factor in weather, heat etc... But it does give you a guide. one thing that annoys me is when people compare large single engines such as the f35s to smaller engines u find inside eurofighter, F15 etc... The bigger larger engine will always make alot of thrust compared to small engine and then on paper it sounds better. But that's like comparing a heavyweight boxer to a welterweight boxer. two different engines designed for different roles

    For all of you whining in the comments, *this is a Cold War aircraft*. It was conceived before Gorbachev came to power, but because everyone in Europe is useless, it took until 2000 to actually get it into service. (France didn't help by pulling out, the result was the Dassault Rafael.) Therefore, it is a bit outdated, but in my opinion it is a fine aircraft. The F35 is roughly on the same level to the Typhoon, but it's bad for a 5th generation Stealth Fighter.
    Most irritating thing is, America can buy whatever they like, they don't need to consult with other countries when making a new aircraft. The same is not true of the UK, Italy, Spain, France (for a while) and Germany. If something's cheap, we'll take it.

    • @efstathioszavvos4878
      @efstathioszavvos4878 10 лет назад +16

      What are you talking about mate, development started in '83, production started in '94 and it entered service in 2003, seems a pretty normal cycle for an advanced aircraft. I'm pretty sure that the reason for not hurrying into service was the end the cold war. Another significant factor was Germany's reunification which had a huge impact on their economy. BTW the F-22's development started in 1981 and I'm pretty sure they took their time due to the end of the cold war as well. The F-35 seems to be following the same ~20 year cycle as well with development starting in 1996 and service planned for 2015, and 2019 for the carrier version.
      Even though it is 11 years in service, it still outperforms all the aircraft of the current generation and is pretty comparable to the next-gen ones like f35.

      @ Cloud cuckoo land. America can't make them though unfortunately any more, F22. Too expansive, unsafe, unflyable out of production. Stealth fighter? What's that? Generations? Labels, don't be fooled by what you read.

      @MegaVector2011 10 лет назад +1

      Furthermore, America can not 'buy whatever they like'. The glossy American dream is no more, and the rest of the world is not fooled by the image portrayed of false wealth. We know that middle America is a poverty ridden decaying wasteland. What do you know about Germany? Do you know where it is? Have you any idea how powerful it's economy it is and how fantastic their engineers are? America can't design & build, or buy jack squit at the moment, as exemplified by the woeful cars & half hearted jobs at building safe commercial airliners. There is no money to invest.

      ***** It only needs that thrust cause it has to do vertical take-offs and landings, whilst carrying a large payload. The Typhoon has a thrust to weight ratio of 1.76. Not even the F22 could do that. The f35 can only reach mach 1.6 compared to the typhoon's mach 2.04. It also has crap maneuverability, crap stealth and a cringe-worthy price. The list goes on

      stealth is over rated. prime example the F35. $1.4 trillion in the making and it can't beat a 1970s F16 in a dog fight. And now an American think tank say Russian and Chinese jets to detect the F35 with their sensors. So the F35 can't Run, can't turn, can't climb and now it can't hide.

    • @ISAFSoldier
      @ISAFSoldier 9 лет назад +3

      ***** Dude.....I think you've fangirled over the Typhoon enough and time to actually LOOK at war, and in turn Aerial Tactics, as a whole...... Stealth isn't over rated IF you know what stealth does in the first place, it's a "camouflage" against radar, it doesn't make one invisible. What it does it make the radar think its something else at range so the fighter can detect, then avoid or destroy the radar station before they realize it's a fighter instead of radar clutter. As for the detection.....if a Typhoon can't a detect a Raptor or B2 Spirit as an aircraft at range (First with German Typhoons, then with Brit Typhoons)....do you really think the Russians or Chinese have a snowballs chance in hell in doing that same? Especially when the F-35s features make it better then the B2 against detection...not that it would matter in the first place if they could as if war were to break out, those installations will be the first to go. Another thing.....you do realize the F-35 is still in a restricted flight envelope, because (SURPRISE!!!) it's still in the development phase, even the Typhoon had it's flight envelop restricted in that regard....This fighter wasn't made to replace the Typhoon merely augment it. The intended fighters it suppose to replace are the F-16 and AV-8s (To which the performance of the F-35 blows both jets completely out of the water) and augment F-18E/Fs around the world, and it's performance is actually somewhat better then the Super Hornets....and one last thing....that 1.4 trillion dollars of spending? That's referring to the projected costs of procurement, repair, and retro fit through it's ENTIRE lifetime.... which is from 2017 to 2069....that's 1.4 trillion over 50 years....and before I forget.....the projected unit price of the F-35 in full rate production is going to cost from 90 to 110 million USD per aircraft dependent on variant....which is cheaper then the cost of a Typhoon at around 140 million USD......
      Why the fuck bring up the argument in the first place? These two fighters aren't going to be on the opposite ends of a war so why the fuck argue about who's better? Seriously makes you look like you have penis envy.....

    • @ISAFSoldier
      @ISAFSoldier 9 лет назад

      +*ANDY* What source? The only thing I read about the F22 being "detected" is an statement by one German Typhoon pilot who thinks the Typhoon's IRST could probably see "something big and hot" as a Raptor, note that's just a statement of opinion and not a confirmed finding as the German Typhoons did not have an IRST equipped during that red flag, nor was there any formal F22 vs Typhoon "fight", what happened was fighter jocks wagging their dicks, complete with alcohol bets. What this means for the F35, I don't know, but there isn't any data except heresay on its detection. As for performance vs an F16, on paper, the F35 has better performance all around, everything from speed, range, and payload....how the Viper beat the F35 in a dogfight....simple....the Viper pilot most likely had a 1000+ of hours of flight time, and could probably take off, sortie and land in his sleep he's so comfortable with his fighter, the guy flying the F35 ( which btw is the C model which has a flight profile more akin to the Rhino then a Viper ) probably tops 100ish hours, put that in account then no shit the F35 got its ass beat, I doesn't matter how good your plane is, because if you don't know how to use it properly it's going to do crap against someone who knows their plane inside out in a close in knife fight. Now for cost, here's a tidbit of info....If you take in the cost of production of the F18 when it was in low rate production and account for inflation and what not with the USD, you'll find its cost to be interestingly similar to the F35 now. It's all in published papers the Pentagon has put out if you don't believe me and with how the trend of most production costs, it's only going to get cheaper and I'm speculating this on US procurement, it'll be even cheaper still with international sales.

    • @bagdaduk
      @bagdaduk 9 лет назад

      ISAFSoldier seriously dude. you don't have a clue, The F16 is better than the F35 in many areas. For example F16 top speed is M1.8 and the F35 is M1.6.. The F35 sustained turning G performance is 7G due to its poor wing load design. The F16 is 9G.
      As regard to the Typhoon detecting the F22, This was back in 2006 at China Lake

    • @ISAFSoldier
      @ISAFSoldier 9 лет назад +1

      +damian poole You're confusing G load with wing load here as the F35 has almost a 30 pound advantage over the Viper, but if you're going for g load, we'll play, that g load was founded on the C and B models, which as I said before having a flight profile closer to the Rhino(the F-18, also has a 7 g load ) then a Viper, where as the A model, which is the definitive Viper replacement, does have the full 9 g wing load. As for speed....dude, testing and development, they haven't green lit it to find its actual max speed yet. Also high off bore capabilities in '06?....the Typhoon's HMSS wasn't introduced until '11 coinciding with the installation of PIRATE IRST, and even then I'm reading sources that these two Typhoons didn't have the earlier variation of PIRATE either, so that along with how I have NOTHING on the RAF, USAF, or any other third party reputed Military Aviation journal or what not confirming this story, makes me wonder the validity of the article. Hell, sifting through the same forum, I'm reading people all of that was just on speculation.

    f22 is built for manuverability and stealth, not for firepower and strength. there is a difference you know. and also we dont use the f22 much in most warzones because most of the time we depend on firepower and strength and thats where the a10 or the typhoon comes into action. why fight about whos better? we're all allies as united nations and we fight as one!

    Problem with the raptor is there are only 195 of them and all production and development has stopped. There are 600 Eurofighters and they are still being built and developed

    The Eurofighter did out fly the F22 Raptor during the NATO exercise last year [Red Flag Alaska] without any update, which may have contributed to F22 cancellation.

    Just for all of thoes who don't keep up to date with the typhoon. The recent report about the typhoon being unsafe is false. The problem came from drilling holes but sometimes not deburred, cleaned ie, "because a tape was not removed immediately after the bore from the well".
    So if it were "not a defect in development, but a bug in the production".
    The RAF and Austria airforce plan to resume normal flight hours any time soon. As for these reports of the flight hours been reduced from 3000 is total BS. The typhoon life cycle flight hours are 6000 and due to be increased to 8000 in 2015 when all the tests are completed.
    In fact the typhoon structural Strength was in question as the RAF and Italian airforce have increased their maintenance Scheduled from every 400FH to 500 and several RAF T1 Tyhoons have already passed the 1500FH mark.

    Google what the US General John P. Jumper said about the Eurofighter. He had flown any US air force plane and after he has flown the Eurofighter he said he has never flown a better air plane before.

    To Meister Jazz, that is a huge call. From what I gather the Rafale is better multi - role wise but the Typhoon is gaining in the Strike role as the RAF showed in Libya last year. But in air to air I think you would have a problem mate!

    For all the Euros out there, the point here is not to criticize the performance, but it seems that the more videos I watch of fighter planes, the more frustrating it becomes. These are nice planes, the pilots are very talented, but everyone in the world needs to understand that the US is 2 generations ahead of everyone. So whatever plane you are flying, the technology was originally created at one of the top 3 manufacturers in Maryland, Washington or California. Once the US invents the next generation, it then partners with our allies (NATO, Australia, Asian Allies) to either manufacturer for that ally or probably consults with a partner as a business venture. But I am sure, the US then has special technology applied for our interests only, this is what separates us from the world and allows our technology to be a generation or two ahead, or at least I am hoping we are still doing this, (Pres. Reagan would have). So you have to keep your pants on when talking about videos of jet fighters, as whatever you are watching we have seen and done this 20 years ago. I am sure the Russian's and Chinese are obtaining part of our technology somehow, haha, there planes are ok, but still seem to have a design from the 80's and 90's, so whatever they are using to fly over our ships on as viewed on FOX or CNN, it cannot be compared as they are a generation behind as well. As you can see the F-22 and F-35 and Stealth B are unlike any other planes, so this is where you see the technology separation. So take it easy out there and enjoy your videos...

      Ask a USAF F 22 pilot when he stops coughing long enough about how good his plane is, it can`t even get close to a Typhoon, the Typhoon will detect the F 22 before it gets in range to use it`s missiles and the Typhoon has longer range missiles, then if the F 22 is lucky and does get close the Typhoon is far better.
      There are very few F 22`s because they are a very expensive and troublesome plane, most USAF pilots fly planes with British and European developed technology. If the US develops the next generation which they have so far failed to do, thy con governments into spending a lot on very inferior planes just as they have many times before.
      Meanwhile we shall continue to enjoy watching the best fighter in the skies while your next generation sit on the ground.

      It depends on who you believe but Germany got their information on jet engines from Frank Whittle.
      America got the jet engine from Britain and so did Russia.

    • @bagdaduk
      @bagdaduk 9 лет назад

      No, per - say. But it does have stealth features to help reduce its radar signature such a RAM coating, recessed weapons hard points, internal engine displacement for minimal radar return signature. The typhoon has the smallest radar cross section of any 4.5+ Gen, none stealth jet.
