In the very long term sure they'd love a weak Russia, but any Chinese government that is leaving Taiwan mostly independent clearly isn't confident in its powers. It is tempting to give approval to that scenario, but it reinforces what we are working against.
whether it is Russia invading Ukraine, China invading Taiwan or Russia to take Siberia.
Might can never make right if we want a civil world.
The UN, for all of its dysfunction, was founded to try and avoid countries invading each other for gains or resolution.
The world needs to act more like a dog or wolf pack. They will all turn on the disruptor to modify behavior and bring compliance and order.

Good luck with that. Either you can have a single world government, which will only be able to enforce it's rule until it collapses under its own complexity, or you have multiple sovereign governments which can argue for the interests of different peoples. Multiple governments is a much more stable system over the long-term, but comes at the cost of occasional warfare.

I mean, I recall several people, myself inc., who said we should do a no fly zone from day 1, give Ukraine planes, tanks, everything, as soon as. 'Red lines' mean next to nothing. Tyrants lie. They manipulate. Putin is just playing from the book of the tyrannical dictator: oppress your people, frighten your neighbours - lest they get wise to your weakness and overthrow you. Unfortunately (esp. for conflicts where it's good v evil), the US has always been isolationist (I'm Australian fyi). Just think WWII, took 'em literally being bombed themselves to get their own troops involved, the people there are quite individualistic and thus can be self-interested, so it's America First once again for a good number of people. This is why I sometimes wish Britain still ruled the world, whilst imperialist defo has its downsides, it also means the populace cares more about international affairs.

I'm fairly certain that Ukraine do not qualify for entry into NATO until their current war is resolved. I daresay this rule was so states that find themselves under attack cannot just decide then that they want to join, and this may play out in non-NATO countries like Moldova and Georgia in the future. Unfortunately so much of the western aid to Ukraine has been delayed by political self-interest and disagreement within the supporting nations, and many Ukrainians have perished as a result, and so much of their ability to fight Russia has already been lost. The west may be losing the opportunity to 'turn this around' if there are any further delays...
