Superbaddy4 True. If I were to rank them, 119 or 120 would be part of legendary tier for sure. For me as the best bombardier Cabcar with a P2 horn, 117 would be the winner followed by 113. And as for the worst Bombardier Cabcar, I would have to say it would be 114 as it has the least interesting horn in my opinion.

Opinion change: After listening to 8311, I realized how great 8311 was so it sky rocketed to 8th place. So 8302 is now my least favorite now. I would now consider 8308 an average cab car, not good but not bad either. 18. 8302 17. 8308. 16. 8305. 15. 8304 14. 8301. 13. 6963. 12. 6965. 11. 8314 10. 8307 9. 6964 8. 8311. 7. 8309. 6. 6962. 5. 6961. 4. 8303. 3. 8310/8312 depending on my mood. 2. 8306. 1. 8313. This is just my own opinion, if you disagree and have an different opinion, that is totally fine. Just please respect my and other people’s opinions about their ranking list of the CDTX cab cars. In my opinion, I now think 8311 sounds kinda funny. I know how drastic this opinion change is, now 8302 is my least favorite.
My personal favorite is 8306, and then 6962. Also, I would use Brent Nguyen’s audio as he's recorded almost every CDTX owned cab car on point. He never saw 8306 on point, however. The first ever photo of a California Car I saw was of 8306. So, I ended up thinking that the Surfliners had a smaller horn so if could go in it's chamber.
I just like to use whichever recordings are clearest and most up to date, regardless of who filmed it. I always try my best to credit, though. Now I wonder how much credit will be needed when I rank the Coaster and Tri-Rail Cab Cars in the near future...
@Superbaddy4 My 6905 recording was from 2015 as not many recent recordings exist. But, 6905 still has a decent horn, a better one than most with the new sharper tuning.
As long as it is still up to date, I'll take it. There's a good amount of footage of 6905 from about 2018 which will work. The Tri-Rail and Coaster Cabs are another deal, as some have died. The Tri-Rail ones are easier as they are less prone to change, but the Coaster ones constantly change. I may only use two samples for each. One of their best 2000s Horn, and one of their most Present Horn (2306 counting with its very last horn before it was scrapped).
Aight. I wanna tell you this 1 thing, I HATE 8312. It stalked me whenever i went railfanning, along with CDTX 2108. Also, the K5LA is kinda rough and in my face. If i had to choose between 8314 Mt Pinos( that thing also stalked me AND I also had to ride on it when I first rode capitol corridor),and 8312 Mt Inyo, i would choose 8314 because its K5LA Sounds nice.
Funny you say that. In the footage I took of 8312 used in this video, it's paired with 2108. But all the other times i've seen 2108, it was paired with 6965.
@@superbaddy4 Oh wow, i got like 3 or 4 recordings with 2108 and 8312. I also hate 8314. I would have put 8314 as mediocre and 8312 as just burning trash. Awesome video and content! :) my favorite Amcal units are F59PHI-ECO #2010 and Cabcar #8313. BTW the reason that many of the 8300 series cabcars K5LAs sound bad are because the engineers have the option to decrease the airflow pressure to the horn using whats called a solenoid valve. In turn this allows the horns to be blown at different volumes depending upon the position of the solenoid valve. I would also like to mention a few things about each of the cabcars horns. 8302s horn really isn't bad at all its just the horn was being blown at standard volume. The same thing applies with 8307, 8305, 8308, and 8311. 8307s and 8311s K5LAs are in my opinion some of the best up there with 8313, and 8309. The engineer of 6964 was also only quilling its horn. That seems to be the case alot with 6964 because its K5LA is very loud on full blast. So in truth really all the cabcars sound good except for 8312, and 8314. 8312s K5 has a fouled #2 bell, and 8314s K5 has a fouled 3A bell. However compared to other fouled K5LAs I've heard I do really like 8312s and 8314s K5s. Also here are some videos of the 8300s horns being blown at full volume or with the solenoid valve fully open which only 5% of the time happens. Its very rare for an engineer to fully open the solenoid valve on an 8300. But when it happens its an awesome treat. CDTX 8307--> ruclips.net/video/Msywb_xANzQ/видео.html
I don't really count when they fully raise the valve, because it's kind of an abnormality. I'm definitely aware they're all capable of better, but again, they all are. I've seen that video of 8307, and several videos of 8311 giving it all. But again, I know what they're doing, so no matter how much better it sounds. I still don't see anything better than what I did before. 8307 is still a mediocre unit that just happens to be blessed with an E-Bell, and 8311 is still nothing but a stenchy pile of vomit. What if my Actual Favorites turned the horn to full? As for 6964, I just don't think it sounds that good, even at full blast. What a coincidence. 2010 is also my Favorite CDTX F59PHI.
@@superbaddy4 You know I respect your taste of horns :), I have a soft spot for fouled horns. 8314 used to sound just like 8310 back in 2005 and also in 2008. Ever since 8314s 3A bell has stopped sounding under a certain PSI. 8312s #2 bell was clogged with insects or debris of some sort and hasn't been cleaned since the 90s. 8304s old K5LA I also really like as well it sounds unique because both the #1&5 bells were cracked and fouled. Nonetheless, 8312/8314/8304 have some very nice K5's. 8310 is another one of my favorite cab cars whom of which I have also heard at full pressure as well. 8310 simply has a very graceful sounding K5 its also very unique when heard at full pressure. It would be interesting if I compiled all of those and made a video comparing CDTX 8300 Cabs Normal Vs. Full Power. I definitely feel the best in 8302, 8303, 8304, 8309, and 8311 there. 8310 and 8313 don't really feel different, I prefer 8314's present horn over its original, and 8308 still sounds like trash.
@@superbaddy4 The video I gave you with 8308 did not really have the solenoid fully opened. I tried to find the one video when 8308s K5 was fully opened however I just couldn't find it. I can however tell you that 8308s K5 at full pressure is synonymous with 8303s K5 at full pressure. I also think that 8313s K5 has much more power to it than 8310s K5. 8310s K5 is much smoother and sonorous rather than powerful.
If you want both of those factors in one guaranteed with no need for a full-powered solenoid, I suggest going to South Florida and finding Tri-Rail's UTDC and Bombardier Cab Cars.
Here are the Pacific Surfliner F59s ranked as of July 2023 imo: 450: A good unit, the first unit for the Surfliner, this unit has sounded good for most of its life imo. 451: It sounded awesome from 1998 to 2015. 5 RL K5LA horn sounded good from 2015 to 2016, and then in 2017, it went fouled and sounded awful. 452: Had an awesome hybird hybrid K5LA and git got replaced with an newer horrible K5LA in 2013 when it was overhauled. 453: The horn for most of its life sounded ok, expect for 2014 when it had an awesome RL K5LA, it's horn pre 2014 sounded ok, and the horn 2015 to 2017 sounded ok, and the horn in 2018 sounded bad. 454: This unit had a good horn for most of its life expect it sounded bad from sometime around 2017 to 2018. 455: An amazing unit, my #1 favorite, an amazing K5LA from 1998 to 2013 and it wore an OLS wrap from 2008 to 2009. The horn went fouled around 2013 but got a awesome RL K5LA in 2016 but it went fouled in 2017 and sounded atrocious. 456: Amazing unit, had an wonderful horn for most of its life but it went fouled around 2017 I would say. 457: An another amazing unit, it's K5LA sounded wonders for most of its life, even in 2018, it sounded amazing. It wore the 10th anniversary Surfliner from 2010 to 2011 and a Be Track Smart wrap from 2011 to 2014, #2 favorite unit. 458: Great unit, wore a National Train Day wrap for a very short time in 2008, had a good horn from 1998 to 2013, but went fouled in 2014. It was also the last Surfliner F59 to leave California. 459: Another awesome unit, but it sounded horrendous from late 2014 to 2016, it had a good horn from 2017 to 2019. 460: Had an awesome hybrid K5LA but it got replaced with a ok RL K5LA but it went fouled later on. 461: Had an awesome hybrid K5LA and then got an wonderful but not as good RL K5LA. The RL K5LA began to sound fouled to the point the horn sounded absolutely horrible. 462: Pre 2011, It had an amazing K5LA especially when it is quilled and then it went fouled in 2011. It got an awesome RL K5LA in 2017. 463: Had an awesome hybrid K5LA and then got an spectacular K5LA in 2012 but it later went fouled unfortunately. 464: I strongly dislike 464 and for the most part always have. Before 2011 it had for the most part an poor K5LA. In 2011 it got a good hybrid K5LA, in 2013 it got a solid RL K5LA but it went fouled and sounded absolutely atrocious. It got an decent hybrid K5LA in 2016, believed to originally from 460. It went fouled again unfortunately and sounded terrible. 465: Solid unit with a great K5LA, was then transferred to the Cascades route.
This is only ranking the Amtrak Pacifc Surfliner F59s when they were with Amtrak from 1998 to 2019, I am not ranking them from 1998 to present with them now being on Metra.
450 and 451 were the only Surfliner F59s built in London, ON. 452 to 465 and 466 to 470 the Cascades F59s were built in Schenectady, NY. This is what I know so far and from the information I have looked up. 465 was then transferred to the Cascades early in its career as we all know.
6963 had its horn fixed but i still hate 6962’s horn they need to work on it especially 6965’s horn it will be nice that 6962 had Surfliner sounding K5LA like 6952 while 6965 had a 3rd gen K5LA I’m telling you 6962 needs it horn fixed and this isn’t an rs5t Horn Nor K5CA
Here is my ranking list as if July 2023: 8301: Ok, but it has an GW E bell which is nice. 8302: Awful, sounds really rotten imo. 8303: Awesome, sounds similar to 8310 when the horn is at standard volume sometimes imo. 8304: Ok, but it used to have an amazing K5LA before 2009. 8305: Alright, not good, but not terrible either. 8306: Amazing NC P5 horn. 8307: Spectacular K5LA. 8308: A very doll and poor K5LA imo. 8309: Another Spectacular K5LA, better than 8307 by a slight margin imo. 8310: An simple but an amazing K5LA, an E bell helps to. 8301, 8307, 8309, 8310, 8312, and 8314 has E bells. 8311: Pretty atrocious horn, sounds rotten and queasy imo, if it had a E bell, it would be better but the horn needs to change imo. 8312: An absolutely unique and incredible K5LA, and has an awesome GW E bell instead of the less glamorous sounding steel bells imo. 8313: An absolutely incredible K5LA. 8314: A very good and unique K5LA, the GW E bell helps it as well. 6961: Amazing K5LA. 6962: An awesome half raised letter K5LA, sounds really unique. 6963: Fairy good horn. 6964: An awesome K5LA. 6965: An very good K5LA, sounds like 8312 imo but not as good. CDTX cab cars ranked worst to best as of July 2023 imo: 18. 8311. 17. 8302. 16. 8308. 15. 8305. 14. 8304. 13. 8301. 12. 6963. 11. 6965. 10. 8314. 9. 8307. 8. 6964. 7. 8309. 6. 6962. 5. 6961. 4. 8303. 3. 8310/8312 depending on my mood. 2. 8306. 1. 8313. 2116 stalks me sometimes, 2118 does not stalk me as much. The Charger that stalks me the most 2120. My #1 favorite Surfliner charger is 2121 as of rn and least favorites as of rn are 2116 and 2118.
Oh yeah and another thing: all surfliner cars have steel bells so dont expect an e bell on it Because it came from Amtrak Pacific surfliner, (which the steel bell is used on every single cab car) they still have it on. Dunno why they didnt replace it but im just saying that because you hate steel bells and said on 6961 “If only it had an e-bell it would be in the top teir…”
@FoolishMortal01 I also like the mech bells, but it varies for different users. For example, Caltrain’s Mech bells are great, and have a good rhythm, but when placed on cars like a surfliner, it makes it sound old, because when I hear a steel bell, I think of trains made in the 1990s and earlier

Also sorry if I am taking away too much of your time.

My ranking of the CDTX 8300 Cabcar fleet
8313
8311
8310
8307/8309
8314/8305/8306
8312
8304/8303/8302
8308/8301
In truth I love all of them
It would be interesting if I compiled all of those and made a video comparing CDTX 8300 Cabs Normal Vs.
My favorite cab car is certainly Mount San Jactino.
my favorite is 8312 mount inyo because its k5la is beautiful I like 8306 but I wish it had and e bell
I kinda prefer the Pacific Surfliner ones, cause both that and the Capitol Corridor are the same but mighty different.
At least mount soledad made legendary cause when I find these in real life my ears get blessed and go to heaven
8310 is also my favorite and behind for 2nd place for me is 8306
What do you think about transtronic bells
I like them, but I like other E-Bells more.
What is the best K5LA ever to exist any railroad
Those would be the Tri-Rail UTDC/Bombardier Cab Cars. Particularly 501 and 507.
What is your favorite f59phi that ran on the Pacific Surfliner
456
Here are the Pacific Surfliner F59s ranked as of July 2023 imo:
450: A good unit, the first unit for the Surfliner, this unit has sounded good for most of its life imo.
I was gonna do some train videos in the future with mortal kombat or killer instinct theme
Cool.
You're aware I credited you in this video when 6963 appears, right?
I know
6963 had its horn fixed but i still hate 6962’s horn they need to work on it especially 6965’s horn it will be nice that 6962 had Surfliner sounding K5LA like 6952 while 6965 had a 3rd gen K5LA I’m telling you 6962 needs it horn fixed and this isn’t an rs5t Horn Nor K5CA
Here is my ranking list as if July 2023:
8301: Ok, but it has an GW E bell which is nice.

4.8312 (i wonder what serial number it has)
3.8310 (beautiful)
2.6962 (yes)
1.6961 (sounds better than 6904)
8306 was probably the only one to have a P5 horn of any kind for decades. Then Star Train happened...
Star Train?
@@superbaddy4 Music City Star
WeGo Star? Nashville Star Train?
That small commuter train in Tennessee. They put a P5A on one of the cabs.
Oh, I didn't know you meant WeGo Star. But I do know you're referring to 795. Not to mention those ones have beautiful Brass Bells.
What’s your least favorite Amtrak surfliner sc 44 charger
Probably either 2116 or 2118.
2116 stalks me sometimes, 2118 does not stalk me as much. The Charger that stalks me the most 2120. My #1 favorite Surfliner charger is 2121 as of rn and least favorites as of rn are 2116 and 2118.
I don't know my Favorite, but it might possibly be 2117.

What is captain quiznos? just wondering
Captain Quiznos is an alias people call CDTX 8313.
@@superbaddy4oh i see
@@superbaddy4 Why is it called that though?
Apparently, it had been involved in various crashes and caught fire a lot. It's actually out of service right now with burn damage.
@@superbaddy4 quiznos is sandwiches right, so do quiznos have a bad reputation for burning their food?
C'mon, 8303 has that dope horn! Why rate it low?
It just sounds too weak most of the time. It's like 6901. It's definitely able to sound good, but often, it just sounds frail.
Isn't there one more P5 on the Capitol corridor. I remember being one more.
No, 8306 is the only one.
All of them are my favorite
Stalk same happens. Amtrak 169 appears everywhere
UTA FrontRunner Cab Car 103 also stalks me everywhere.
My favorites are 8306 and 8302
half of these cabcars i havent even seen
8312 has a underrated K5LA
Also what is the font they use?
Bodini MT Negreta
The best thing about 8302 is that it isn't maintained by Amtrak LA, then it would be worse.
@Acerailfan3306 Trackside But it would sound worse if it was a Surfliner Cab Car
0:21 Yeah. Total Mount Shitsta.
13. 8307 Mount Baldi’s Basics
Oh yeah and another thing: all surfliner cars have steel bells so dont expect an e bell on it
Because it came from Amtrak Pacific surfliner, (which the steel bell is used on every single cab car) they still have it on. Dunno why they didnt replace it but im just saying that because you hate steel bells and said on 6961 “If only it had an e-bell it would be in the top teir…”
Because of that, i'm not as biased towards the SoCal Surfliner Cab Cars.
can you rank surfliner cabcars? that would be cool
Already did a while ago, just not in depth.
@@superbaddy4 can I have a link to it?
You can find it on my Channel. I uploaded it back in Early 2019.
Mount hamilton is a really basic capitol corridor horn in my opinion if this your opinion I'm not mad but if you think it's not I'm mad
I mean, it does sound pretty normal for their standards, it's just that it sounds above average compared to the others.
@@superbaddy4 yeah I get that

My favorite is 8306 cause of it's P5
6063 is my fav

All raised letter K5LAs heard here are better than the lame K5CAs.
Fortunately, there are no CDTX Cab Cars that have K5CAs.

What do you mean?
Oh I spelled it wrong I met you put on my favorites at The beginning lol
Yeah, sorry, but I don't like those ones as much as you do.
@@superbaddy4 it’s OK it’s your opinion
Steel bell > crappy e bell
I can handle your opinion.
3:09 this sounds like a metra F40
Very Awesome!
