Flomax

  • As men age, the prostate enlarges which creates difficulty urinating. Although the prostate itself does not shrink with Flomax, the smooth muscle component of the gland relaxes. This effect on the involuntary muscle allows easier passage or urine with less hesitation and dribbling. Benefits appear extraordinarily rapidly. Also know as tamsulosin, the drug improves the symptoms of BPH rather than curing the condition. Lightheadedness frequently occurs on arising from a seated position. A recent evaluation of 500,000 men unexpectedly revealed those taking tamsulosin might face an increased risk of dementia. Studies to confirm or refute this possible association must be undertaken.

Thank you for this thorough description of the drug. My doctor just prescribed this after talking to me for 30 seconds. I asked if there are side effects and he said “not really”. After watching this, no thanks. I’ll deal with peeing a few more times a day.

Food beverage major importance. Been taking tamulosin 6 years. One pill per day. Have not increased dosage. Stopped all sugar and very little carbohydrates. Sometimes combination with Prostagutt. Recommended by my urologist.
So glad the drug was invented.. keeping me away from Turp. Urolift. etc.. BTW.. 65 yrs. Run hills and train muay thai..

I’m 58. Just got my first rx. I don’t smoke, drink, or take any other drugs. I’m fit and don’t eat junk. My relief started the very first day. Such relief to finally have better flow, and feeling empty again. The down side is no ejaculate. :( Still feel satisfied though. (Less messy) 😂 Nausea and dizzy spells and at times out of breath when I get up. If it turns out through peer review that this drug does indeed cause dementia. I’ll stop. But then again we all know drug companies are in it for the money. So we shall see.

Dementia is not due to drugs, but due to aging and other associated diseases. If one read and write rather than aimlessly spending the senior citizen life, then one can have more dementia. If you leave Flomax, prostatic bladder retention can invite infection and kidney damage

And what I've also heard about the flomax it also stops urinary tract infections very quickly and besides that it knocks it down by about 50 to 75%. That's what I believe! But the whole point of the matter is although I've never taken the stuff but now I'm going to have to take the stuff anyway because of my urinary tract infection and because my bladder is starting to basically act a little funny is the way things work hopefully this will cause my urine flow to basically empty out basically it won't take long for all of the urine to basically flow out of your bladder because when I had my examination for that they said that my bladder was basically a little bit full of urine and that's why it didn't want to come out so hopefully with this drug it'll basically fix the problem and what this guy's actually saying is very true what this does is it causes a lot of things that you wouldn't know about but in one sense there is a little side effect it will cause a heart palpitation for people who have a bad heart and that's something that we also need to start looking at too but with me though although I've never taken flomax I'll be sure to take it once a day and make sure that this can be stopped within at least two to three weeks that way I don't have to worry about this any further than that!

Age 53 and I will urinate but it is not obvious there is more urine. I leave and there is dribbling afterwards. It is not all the time. There are some things to do before medication, which I haven't taken yet. I believe the problem happens when I tend to drink more (tea or water). If I can use non-medical intervention and rarely have dribbling, I will do so. There are some things like pushing underneath, but the main thing is to wait at the toilet long enough, I think. I get rushed. This might help some of you guys. Good luck.

He is a little dramatic-in general Flomax is quite well tolerated and certainly effective -some of the studies he mentions have not been peer reviewed-on the other hand he gives a good review and anybody who does not tolerate Flomax should certainly consult with an MD who knows the drug ( not all Urologists actually do)

Thanks for the information sir that's a matter of fact my doctor just prescribed me flowmax on April 1st and I can tell you what once I start taking that once a day I won't have to worry about that because basically that's what the whole thing is about I think the reason is that's one of the reason why we have prostate cancer and that's exactly what's going on right now that's why my grandfather on my mother's side had prostate cancer and basically killed him. However, with flomax basically it'll do just more than just relieve the prostate it'll basically comfort you if urethra and basically do exactly what it's meant to do stop the infection before it gets worse I basically that's one of the causes of shall we say urinary tract infection when your bladder starts getting a little bit full of urine and it doesn't want to come out!

I take Adderall and it would restrict the flow of urinating and it stopped when I started to take this medication. But wow the side affects are horrible for the first week or two. It also stopped the pain I had in my groin/lower abdomen area. I tried taking it at night so I wouldn’t feel the discomfort of the side effects but it would keep me up all night long. It really messes with my sleep schedule. Fortunately I’m retired from the Feds so I was able to deal with the excessive side effects. I’m gonna try to take it when I get up in the morning to see how it feels. I hate getting old lol.

I've had to take 2 per day at night, but Flowmax caused severe heart palpitations and dizziness. I cut back to 1 pill and have trouble initiating my stream. If also constipated peeing is very difficult. Blood pressure drops, especially diastolic, were significant. Cutting dose by half removed heart symptoms.

These BPH drugs seem to be so ineffective or cause too many side effects that’s why you have a new more invasive procedure popping up every other month like PAE, rezu or uroflow etc . I wish the field would come up with something more safer and more effective. The field seems to be a mess still relying on antiquated psa tests and painful biopsies. Then you have so many treatments that there is no simple choice for the patient and no gold standard.

Benadryl contains an artificial sweetener that also will irritate and enlarge the prostate. Any type of cough drops or cough medicine that contain Xylitol or Sorbitol will cause the prostate to enlarge which is why I will stay away from all cough medicines and cough drops that use these types of artificial sweeteners. Not sure why the companies have to use these artificial sweeteners when they can just use normal sugar as a sweetener.

"We Don't know" as regards the Unversity study on Flomax use as a causitive of dementia ,I would imagine a study of 500.000.00 men in that same age group not on Flomax would have even the same or perhaps a higher percentage of dementia ,I am curious of five hundred thousand women say aged 55 to 80 studied for dementia might also be higher then 17% Dx.
In many of these studies asking about the participants life style are not of interest to figure another possible cause from ONE drug causing a disase.
I do fault many physicians for not explaining side effects to a patient and that of patients that do not read the medicine's included literature. ..also do ask questions to your Dr.
