With age, the prostate gland enlarges. Due to its location surrounding the tube emptying the bladder, this causes age related urinary symptoms almost universal among older men. At the core of the situation is conversion of testosterone into its active form dihydrotestosterone. The enzyme necessary for this hormone activation, 5-alpha reductase, is the target of Proscar.
Several forms of the enzyme exist with the type 2 variety being present in the prostate, seminal vesicles and epididymis. Proscar acts here rather than at the type 1 enzyme present in the sebaceous glands and liver. A different drug, Avodart or dutasteride blocks the enzyme at both sites but does not differ in its clinical effects.
Symptoms of benign prostate hypertrophy or enlargement include difficulty starting urination, frequent urination, urgency, nighttime urination, straining, dribbling and the need to return to the restroom shortly after urination. These complaints slowly and modestly improve with Proscar.
Treatment continues indefinitely with benefits delayed for weeks to months. For men with more burdensome problems the drug may be combined with an alpha blocker. Drugs in this family include Flomax, Rapaflo, Uroxatral and Cardura. Several of these are available in generic form. They relax smooth muscle in the prostate and improve urinary flow and other symptoms almost immediately. The combination shrinks the prostate gland and reduces pressure on the bladder outlet.
Proscar decreases the incidence of prostate cancer by approximately 30% without increasing the likelihood of aggressive disease. A small number of men receiving Proscar may experience sexual side effects manifested by erectile dysfunction and decreased libido. This occurs in up to 4% of men and generally resolves spontaneously even while continuing therapy.
Women who may be pregnant should not touch the tablet. The unborn male fetus exposed to the drug may develop a condition known as hypospadius where the opening of the urethra fails to develop at the tip of the penis.

ive been taking finatseride quarterof tablet since i was 19 and noy 32. i havnt lost my hair but i have decreased libido. do you recomend anything that can hekp hedicine wise?

The only thing you could do is get off of finasteride and try to fix your 5 alpha reductase . Literally your body has been feminized and castrated by taking finasteride as disconnected. Your neuroactive steroids in your brain and there's no way around it. That's just what the medication does. It's meant for old men who have prostate issues who are in the later stages of their life. This isn't for young men growing into their manhood like you took it at your young age when you started. You wouldn't even know what it's like to feel like a real man because you've been castrated can try to correct it. But you're going to have to go through testosterone replacement therapy along with HCG and you're going to have to fight with the deepest part of you to get well.
