I'm 78. Recently a younger person asked me what was the point of being so old and having no new discoveries ahead of me. I replied that their are still discoveries available to me every day if I make the effort. My discovery today of this stellar piece of music is an affirmation of that idea...that the human mind is always hungry for just such a rich experience.
I work intensively in suicide prevention and support for people impacted by a suicide in their school, workplace or community. Sometimes the depth of pain and distress pulls me down and tears at my soul. It is music like this that helps sustain me in this work. Hope can be fleeting, but it endures. Thank you Joep
Im almost 13 and you might think what problems might be at that age but the society the internet it just makes everything worse this master peace made me realise how much music means to me currently playing violin 8 years and was about to leave it but this made me overthink everything music in this life is something magical that i cant explain i just want to say a big thankyou to people like you this helped me so much this music is increadible keep going like this i love it
good for you! falling in love with music is a love that only grows deeper with age. everything is in music, it lives and breathes, and somehow feels as if it understands us at our very core.
I’m glad a stumbled on this comment section and your comment specifically yours, YEMY pw. I hope you’re still playing violin. Keep playing, whenever you can sweet one 🖤 it’s good for the soul
Now you're 15. Hope you kept the violin in your life and I wish for you that you'll never let anyone take the music away from you. They shouldn't even try. And actually, they can't. But hold it dear, it's the most precious thing you'll ever own. Make it yours as much as you can. No matter if you make money as a musician one day, or be "successful" in the music industry, it is a language that needs to be spoken. It is a language of the soul. And for a musician it's sometimes the only language that persists, when all the others don't offer enough words to express what's inside you. It's the language of connection. It's the language of energy, as it is the universal language. And it is yours.
I don't know why it is, but to me this piece means hope. Maybe because hope is persistent; always there, a tune played constantly, hope is within us always. Even when the tune falters, it is picked back up again and carried forth. Hope is always mirrored by a struggle, or pain, or fear that is just as constant. But beside our sorrows, so too do we have hope despite all of what we may go through in life. To hope is to be human. And to be human is to be a beacon of hope. By far my favorite piece of Joep's, and I am so happy to see it played by an octet. Thank you to everyone involved.
@@blargmeblarg If I made a film with nothing but Joep Bevings music as soundtrack it would be a biographie about his way of coming out with his music and about steven.
Those last 45 seconds, you can hear the horsehairs snapping the force of passionate hope being seared into the strings of the instruments and the strings of your heart and brain as it rises in intensity both volume and pitch. That final chord sends echos down your spine through your core, there is little that matches the power of this audible, slicing blow of 'it will change for the better'
Joep is a masterful pioneer and leader in music. Hanging D is one of the most ambitious and spiritually fearless masterpieces that I am grateful to have discovered a few years back and have since heard countless times to reclaim those dormant emotions. You can feel a very powerful yet beautiful, sonorous ambition that is isolated and inverted or turned inward into the soul, that digs deeper and takes you into a state of stillness where you can thoroughly feel those dormant emotions, and even a pre-conditioned sense of self that has been suppressed or capsized as we move through life. A lot of musical pieces are like a play, a dance or a tide that shifts back and forth through time, which makes Hanging D one of the most structurally unique pieces of music I have ever heard. It feels very linear with a riveting force that exposes the exponential power of human emotion when it is focused and intentional.
today the 29th March 2023, on the 88th eve of Rudolph Steiner's death I found this piece, with a comment from a woman who had just lost her brother & had heard her older brother playing it often since. Before I saw it I had a vision of Steiners first Goetheanum & feeling that woman & her brother's pain, imagined a whole generation who are now experiencing the same, through the sudden loss of so many. I have just written my first poem in years, about these two lonely genius's & thanking God for His mighty love to us in these days of grief, which I believe Joep has captured brilliantly & Steiner forsaw.
It took me over a year. Stone by stone drawings of all sides of the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris. Exactly as she was. Exactly like she will be again. Like no flame ever touched the cathedral. Here I am celebrating the end results. With this music. The drawings look like exactly how this sounds. I'm in tears of joy.
It is April 16, 2020 and we are in the middle of a global pandemic that surpasses all we have collectively ever known. How timely this epic piece of music seems to fit the emotions I now feel. Everyday I see on my Facebook page someone begging for prayers for a loved one fighting for their life.....esp poignant was the one I read last night in which the family member is 8 months pregnant in intensive care fighting to survive covid 19 & the poor girl had to be intubated as well. Peace -Love _and Light to everyone - we are all connected on this blue planet.
It appears like each of these players may have been hand selected by Joep. They all are in such synchronicity with each other. You can see they take this epic work seriously. Then for a minute we see Joep sitting with his head bowed eyes closed. the sunlight streams in upon his face; right there I see the deep hidden emotion in the genius behind this work. Bless you Joep.
Just discovered this through the wonders of RUclips suggestions, I now have this every day on repeat - visually rewarding as well as being a superb arrangement of Hanging D
I love music like this; it makes my imagination run wild with scenes to write; wether for a book, film, stage or just a descriptor for a game of Dungeons & Dragons.
I am fairly neutral in emotion but the music releases a magic that I cannot explain. For having had chills with the original track, I can't hide a tear of emotion during this rehabilitation, this is the first time this has happened to me and out of respect for you and this team, I have to share with you my feelings. Thank you !
Can you imagine collaborating with this guy? or even just talking with him about the creative process... my dream would be to play a concert with him. Two pianos!!
I loved the piano work so much when I found it years ago that it took me a bit to warm to this (even though my daughter plays cello). But I love it now. Wonderful how music has this flexible quality and it can be transposed and varied in form.
I literally cannot stop listening to this & Hanging D. It's on a loop ad infinitum ad nauseam. The video is epic. This is a masterpiece. Remarkable. It's soundtracking an interesting phase of my life. The intensity.... Just that relentless intensity.. I haven't looped like this since I heard Hania Rani's Live From Studio S2 which is my all-time favourite set. Absolutely divine. ❤️🔥🎧
I can perfectly see this song being used in some scene showing humankind about to accomplish a momentous feat. It could be a scene that follows the crew of Apollo 11 as it descends to the Lunar surface, or Yuri Gagarin lifting off and becoming the first human to reach space. This song conveys a sense of tremendous anticipation and uncertainty, of being on the cusp of greatness yet struggling to reach it. While the piano version of this song is wonderful on its own right, this version just gives it so much more weight and delicate complexity.
This piece must be so complex to perform! Everyone needs to be in perfect sync or else have an earpiece with a metronome click. Not to mention the tension... perfect.
Brings out memories of Final Fantasy and cello practice. Or rather, those memories brought me here, to a hauntingly tranquil composition which instills me with nothing but pride at such an accomplishment, even though it is not my place to feel such a thing. Don't mind me, though. Just reminiscing.

That person did not display a supreme amount of sensitivity, I'd reckon.
