    Hi Mark (I can't call you uncle, I'm nearly old enough to be yours)
    I've been a fan of George Thorogood since I heard Bad To The Bone as the opening track to Stephen King's/John Carpenter's "Christine" back in 1984 and have been singing it in karaoke for years. I've recently taken up learning cigar box guitar so that I can accompany myself singing. Thanks very much for the instruction, it's helped improve my playing of the song. How about a follow up lesson to give us some help with the song's solos?
    Cheers from the UK.

    Really nice, I'm new to CBG what settings do you have the amp set on? Would be great if you can show how to set the amp up sounds great 👍

      Frankly I can’t remember, this is a 5 yr old video. And I don’t own that amp anymore.
      You can get these tones on a Roland mini cube or a vox mini go. Use the gain.
      Cheers and thanks

    You are one of my favorite CBG guitar players, you do a great job showing how to play great songs, thanks for sharing your knowledge with us. How many guitars do you have , what kinds, do you play a license plate guitar? Thanks

      @unclemarkscigarboxguitarlesson  5 лет назад

      Hi, Thanks. I own 2 Rob Wroble CBGs (one fretted, one fretless) I own 1 Farmer CBG. I own one guild 6 string, a Ron Kirn Signature Stratocaster. I collect tube amp combos and have about 8 all different. I had a licence plate guitar once and sold it ...It wasn't really what I liked. Cheers

    What type of fretted CBG do you recommend for slide play also? I built one but the action is really low so it’s hard to use the slide without banging on the frets.

    • @unclemarkscigarboxguitarlesson
      @unclemarkscigarboxguitarlesson  2 года назад

      this is a common misconception about slide and action. many beginners have trouble because theyre a bit too heavy handed. deft slide playing is a learned technique. fortunately I can help. look here: vimeo.com/ondemand/umcbgslidebeginner

    Fantastic lesson Uncle Mark. I just bought a new cigarbox guitar recently. I'm wondering what the dimension should be from the fret to the string for effective slide playing. First fret is about 1 cm and the 5'th is about 2 cm and what gauged strings should I use for slide on the cigarbox guitar. I feel my strings might be too thin and the screw at the nut may be too small. Maybe the action needs to be raised a little bit. I get a lot of buzz. Any suggestions or tips would be appreciated. By the way, I love your videos. I'm glad you're out there rock'en with the cigarbox guitar.

    • @unclemarkscigarboxguitarlesson
      @unclemarkscigarboxguitarlesson  2 года назад +1

      I believe that you should not modify a guitar to play slide. (raise the nut)
      The action (distance from string to fret) should be the same throughout the entire neck. it should be close enough that you can fret all frets in any fashion without buzzing anywhere anytime.
      Slide playing requires deft (a light touch) and proper techniques.
      Best of luck
      P.S. I'm not a builder, just a player.

      @@unclemarkscigarboxguitarlesson Thanks for your feedback Uncle Mark. I'm not a builder either. Just a player wannabee. I just noticed some cigarbox guitars have a large bolt at the nut position. The screw I have at the nut position is quite low and very close to the frets. I will message my builder to see what his input is, Southern Fire Guitars

    • @unclemarkscigarboxguitarlesson
      @unclemarkscigarboxguitarlesson  2 года назад

      @@cmmbsnyder55 The "nut" is by the headstock. The "bridge" is on the box itself. I'm unaware of the builder (but there are a lot out there) . That said there should be no buzz at any fret position anywhere on the neck.

      I'm playing though a Mesa Boogie F 30 (it's an older model). Dirty channel; Treble at 1 o clock, mids at noon and bass at 10. On a roland cube street this would be on the classic rock setting with the treb at noon and the bass rolled off a bit. A touch of reverb. I hope that helps.

    I find the b-b-b stutter difficult; I pronounce it as baw- baw- baw.
