Oh I also thought the making the cube wet by soaking it in water is somehow gonna help, it didn’t. The screws got extremely rusty to the point that they broke.

when I first started getting into speedcubing, it was after I got a rebranded mf3 from a random store
It was my first good cube and it got me want to try getting faster
I started to get faster and the cube was starting to get too slow for me so I thought maybe if I added some sunflower oil, it'll turn better so I did.
Problem was the effect only lasts for a few days so I'd end up having to "re-lube it" often
eventually got my hands on an mf3rs2m and some proper silicon lubes from a local cube shop and instantly got faster and more consistent times. when I tried going back to my old mf3 tho (this was only like a few months of not using it) it had that weird sticky feeling as well
one day I wanted to try and get better at pyraminx but realized I had lubed it with silicon oil in the past and it was weird and sticky too
I cleaned it with soap and water and when I dried it, it would still feel the same... I got most of it off by rubbing each piece individually with water downed rubbing alcohol
when I applied proper lube on it tho, the residue is pretty much gone so you should be fine

I recently got recommended to use this type of silicone used for hair. I used it in some type of budget yuxin cube and suprisingly it was better than any other lubricant i have tried. It didnt dry out in the cube and it didnt become sticky and im actually suprised on how good it is. The lube can last a few months until you have to relube the cube again. It has no water in it so it cant rust the screws, its almost pure silicone.

My Meilong stopped turning well and I thought I didn't need lube
    I bought another...
    Same thing happened...
I then bought a MF3RS that started to not corner cut or turn well,
I then bought a yuxin little magic, that began to degrade and I thought budget 3x3s weren't worth it anymore, but I bought dnm-37, and put it in my yuxin and it feels perfect! I can't believe I wasted so much time with other cubes, lube is definitely necessary

    • @SpeedCubeReview
      @SpeedCubeReview  3 года назад

Not really. Most cubes slow down because they are not kept clean. Any of those puzzles would be back to normal with a good cleaning of the dust the builds up. The idea that cubes "need" lube is a big misconception. They are not engines turning at 2000 rpm and they are very lightly fit plastic parts. Lube is something many people use to adjust the feeling of puzzles but cubes will not degrade from a lack of it.

Stickered GAN 356i: Don't use PTFE cycle lube. Unusable. After hours trying to clean and relube and it's still a finger breaker. When new it was kind of slow and got worse, couldn't get proper lube for a month so tried cycle lube. Had to buy a replacement.
Stickerless GAN 356i this is a much much faster cube. It arrived smooth but slowed down after a week. I added a few drops of Silicone Treadmill oil lube without cleaning it. Ruined it. After 20 mins cleaning it's okay again but not as good as new.

Don't use mineral oils for cubes. Cubes are generally made of ABS, which dissolves in mineral oil! ABS is actually fairly notorious for being easy to dissolve in a wide range of solvents.
An exception are the custom 3d printed puzzles you might get from somewhere like Shaeways. IIRC these are nylon, which is much more chemically resistant than ABS. Still, know your materials if you're going to try this!
You want a silicone oil. I actually use a bottle from my local hobby store formulated for use as transmission oil in RC cars. It's a silicone oil and has to not attack ABS since ABS gearboxes are pretty common, even if the plastic gears themselves are (hopefully) nylon. It makes the puzzles turn better than without for sure.
Don't use too much or the mechanism will indeed get slightly sticky. One or two drops is plenty for simple puzzles. You want to get it down deep into the puzzle mechanism, especially for large complicated puzzles with lots of shells. I find a plastic syringe is great for this. It will eventually collect grime, so every once in a while (or if you think you put too much in) it's good to take the puzzle apart, wipe down the pieces with a paper towel, then put it back together and relubricate.
I just checked a couple of my puzzles which had been sitting untouched in a cabinet for quite some time (more than a year) and found that the lubrication is still good and they turn smoothly, so this shouldn't be an issue.
It's worth noting that I'm not a speedcuber and instead collect more esoteric twisty puzzles which for the most part do not turn as well as even a generic 3x3. They simply haven't gone through the years of design refinement that competition puzzles have. My goal is generally smooth operation rather than speed.

So I got into Rubik's cubes in 2016, that's when it exploded and everyone in my school was getting them. I didn't know anything about so I got a Rubik's Brand, big mistake. I thought you could use any oil to lube it, so I used cooking oil LMFAO. About 4 years later, 2 weeks ago I picked it up, it had dark orange and brown stuff all over it, in the inside, in the core, and when I turned it, it felt like I dipped it in super glue. I tried cleaning it, spent about an hour doing so, and it still was sticky. I ordered a Little Magic 3x3(stickerless), it was AMAZING. I tried about 40 cubes my friend had and one of my favorites was the GTS3M, it was in my price range so I ordered it. Now I got only 1 lube for it and I don't know if I can use it one everything, meaning the pieces, the core, the screws, the springs, the washers.

so i have my gan 11 m pro and i tryed to put lotion and for 2 days it was super good and it made it corner cut anywhere and for day 3 i felt that the cube won’t turn so i turned hardly and it moved and i had to do it again and i didn’t know what was happening if it was water(that i put in when this happened too) or the lotion so i cleaned my cube up and just put water and i wait a week and it was normal back again, if you want to lube your cube but you don’t wanna buy lube then use some things else in your house and what i use is water and hand sanitizer (i know it’s werid), the water is very fast but it is not good for your cube and specially the gan 11 m pro because it has core magnets and it can make rust in the magnet, hand sanitizer is the same but smoother and fast and last longer and pretty bad for your cube.

Any good place where you could buy lube in europe? Since buying from speedcubeshop only for lube seems kinda not worth the delivery (i really just need lube)

I used a silicone based non abrasive gun oil on my cube. I don’t think it will become sticky since it is silicone based. It feels great after a few days but should I clean it or leave it?

Hi i ordered my first speedcube about a month ago (GTS 2M), and i felt like i needed to adjust the springs a little bit so that it be a bit more hard to turn. Do you have any suggestion's/tips on how to get all the screws adjusted at the same level?, because i tried it myself and i don't think the cube feels the same at all the sides, especially when i try to solve it quick.

I mixed soap and oil in my mf3rs because why not and I thought it worked amazingly then left it for like. A week and came back to it and I did not turn I had to forcefully turn it to get it turning again so I ended up binning the cube
