  • Interior designer Sara Bederman’s Toronto kitchen remodel is a study in how function and style can work in tandem to elevate the overall look.
With three kids, two rambunctious dogs and a successful design firm, it’s no wonder her favorite kitchen appliance is the espresso machine. Approaching the remodel, functionality had to be top-priority. She tackled the utilitarian needs of the space first, incorporating a wall of floor-to-ceiling storage, a functional layout, and extending the kitchen island to serve as extra prep space and a place for the kids to do homework. Then Bederman dressed up the neutral palette with natural materials (walnut detailing and marble tile on the floor and backsplash) and pops of brass. The white cabinetry paneling with elevated hardware not only disguises the storage and appliances but also adds an artful touch to the space.
The result? A calming, functional kitchen with as much personality as her bustling family.
