I know they're not the same without him, but many songs from the last 4 albums have been amazing. I do wish it was his vocals on the tracks, but Augeri & Pineda have done good by Journey. Plus Steve didn't want to continue singing, so the band had to go on.
I love Journey! I love love Steve Perry.......... He is called the "Voice" for a reason. Yes you can tell when it is him singing................. Happy New Year!
This video is so bittersweet. Perry was in crippling pain, facing double hip replacement surgery soon. He was completely burned out from being part of the hardest working band. This song finally earned them their first Grammy; this album was the last to feature Perry as their frontman. In 2020, Perry finally sang again for the first time.
Hey, Texas Magnolia: Actually, Journey never won a Grammy for any of its songs in any competition against other songs or groups. The band was nominated for a Grammy in 1996 for this song, but didn't win. The award went to the song "So Much to Say" by the Dave Matthews Band. (Stupid, right?!) It wasn't until this year - 2021 - when the group's song "Don't Stop Believing" was placed in the 2021 Grammy Hall of Fame. Steve Perry is often listed as one of the best rock singers. Wonderful voice! (Side note: Randy Jackson, one of the original judges on American Idol, performed for a time with Journey as bassist.) Love Journey!
Steve Perry just put out an album this year 2018 in the Summer called Traces after not singing for almost 20 years due to his fall out with Journey. It was inspired by his girlfriend of a year and a half who he met when she was battling cancer. She passed in 2012. She told him to promise her he would sing again. He kept his promise.
Love this song. Steve Perry is one of my favorite artists. Such a beautiful, pure voice. He has so many more songs that really show his gift. This just happens to be a beautiful song.
