I've spent the last few years here in Iraq. Mainly in Erbil/Arbil but also in Mosul Ninewa. I passed by the ancient walls that ISIS destroyed. The bastids. The history just oozes out of every pore. If this place ever settles down it well worth a visit. Even Mosul! Some of the oldest cities in the world.
I spent a little over two years in Iraq from up until January 2010. I would love to explore that nation as a tourist. It just feels ancient. Everyday I was there it felt like I was a part of history. Very special place.
U.S. troops still in iraq? Why? Oh, there's oil there, kick their a$$ n take their ⛽ gas, gotta keep the Bush family wealthy! But i'm proud to be 🇺🇸 American... blah blah blah 🙄
@Gabriel Safar As the Assyrians did to the Babylonians, Elamites and others. Each group that invades another territory and causes destruction, claims to have the moral high ground. Sad indeed.
@Spolierman So you think Hitler was so great? He and his minions invented the international highway system with cloverleafs and no need to stop. They made advances in medicine, aviation, and much other technology. No, he wasn't great. Same with the Assyrians. Their "accomplishments" were far exceeded by their extreme cruelty, invading other kingdoms and torturing and murdering the inhabitants. Try learning something about Assyrians. They were so evil that the Babylonians finally destroyed them.
@@jimmooney8195 I am Assyrian, we did so to protect ourselves against the animals that existed during that time, Babylonian, Persian etc. We became "evil" in order to protect ourselves until today people are still trying to wipe us out and still fail. We have a saying "Shit never stays hidden under snow" eventually when you face an Assyrian spirit, he will rip you to pieces and then you will beg God even though you don't believe in him to stop that spirit because you don't understand the spirit of an Assyrian. "The enemy that is invincible shouldn't exist" that's how afraid the people who faced the Assyrians said so. Extreme notions were chosen because "evil" people want to be free and we will never be under anyone's rule. You think england or america is not more evil, their cruelty was never spoken about anywhere about what they did in Iraq or Afghanistan etc and this is the modern world where peace is apparently is supposed to be present and International laws. Don't preach " do as I say, don't do as I do" but I don't blame you, what do you know.

Superficial mainstream history.
Nimrud is just so beautiful and really shows how really advanced they were as a civillization back then. Its a shame that it is practically destroyed now after ISIS bulldozed the site because of its "unislamic" nature. As a history major this is just too sad for me
I understand I was devastated when I found out they literally bulldozed the gates of Nineveh they had stood five thousand years and they were amazing there was a guy who did a video while he was over there in the military and he published it and it was so I didn't know it was that big I mean you see pictures but wow when he standing there and you see the carvings and this was real this was something somebody carved 5000 years ago it's almost impossible to wrap your head around it because you look at the gates you look at the ramp up to the gate you look at the wall that are attached the still existed and you think they did this 5000 years ago! We cannot visualize in our mind but to have it right there where you could see 5,000 years ago they could build something like that and then they just blew them up. Hateful people they pulverized it to the point there was nothing left. This is the kind of mind that thinks the World is Flat or that the lizard people Illuminati will get us.
@De Z I agree with you that it is so silly for any Religion Today to think that by destroying something from the past so have better control of their people. That is such foolishness it would be like stepping back in time A Thousand Years. But of course they're forcing their people to live a thousand years ago type of life. And they threatened modern society with that lifestyle their own people are accepting it those who even escaped and were able to get to moderate countries now are living extremists lives. They live them out of fear they live them out of conversion and they live it out of loneliness no one wants to be ostracized from that which they are familiar with. If you're not allowed to go to your favorite religious site because they consider you unclean then you will do everything in your power to make yourself clean or you will find a new religion but if it is dangerous for you to do so you will then do everything to fit in even if it is the giving up of your very soul. How sad that a religion like this can still survive in this world. Yet look at the people who are being put on trial and Idaho in the United States this year and the family members who paid the ultimate price for not being perfect an understanding the price of that religion those people professed. When a religion professes that you must follow us or you are not worthy in must die there is something seriously wrong with it. Now we must admit many of the main religions in the world have been that way in ancient times it was a way for them to control the masses get the money they need it but we also need to remember that the only hospitals and caretakers of the poor in ancient times were these religious or philosophical sects. We can see what happens when they are no longer available such as would happen with Henry the 8th when he destroyed his standing religion the Catholic church in his country took all of the land the wealth Etc and placed it within his own coffers and that of his minions and kicked all the nuns and Priests out into the street. But it was really they who suffered it was his own subjects who now no longer had a hospital to go to. They no longer had a place to die. They no longer had a place to leave children who had no family. And they no longer had a place where is the people they could join together in times of strife and in times of joy I had to make a choice all of a sudden between the King's religion or the old one and which one did you choose which one would lead to safety and which one would lead to death? How many centuries has it taken and yet they still continued to lead to safety and death at the same time in that Kingdom? The power of the old church has never been broken. The reign of the new church is strong. They both leave the kingdom in turmoil. And if people are still free to believe in other churches other religions other philosophies. A good alternative.
A nation with out history has no future. This is true for all states, whether Islamic or not.
Mari was also beautiful city, before Hammurabi destroyed it so good, it was rediscovered just by accident.

Our true forefathers. History is very important and should never be erased good & bad.
Indeed, it gives us the luxury to say that history is not ashame to repeat itself.
"history" is a mix of multiply rewrittent pr myths
History is written by the victor. Christopher Columbus didn’t discover America, Jesus doesn’t look like Jared Leto, etc. The history represented today in America’s institutions is highly skewed as it is in other major countries. Education is very important therefore controlled & manipulated by the world’s Government. Thank God we have independent sources like RUclips.

Sure i agree. But no need for modern statues in parks of confederate generals.
i love assyrian art, i find those reliefs so incredibly refined and elegant
I agree, it's like forcing your mind to respect them from the first second.
It's somehow monumentous; almost megalithic but at the same time exuding a sort of Greco-Roman elegance, like a combination of the imposing and the intricate.
They sure made themselves look buff. And brutal. Intimidating.
The Hittites left many reliefs as well. There is a Hittite museum in Ankara, Turkey and there used to be one in modern day Syria in Aleppo, but I believe it to have been destroyed during the recent conflict there.
@@crhu319 the ancient Assyrians were the most warlike people in all of history. They were obsessed with conquest, warfare, violence and victories. Even the artwork of other warrior races depict normal activities. Assyrian art almost completely revolves around warfare. Fortunately they later became the first people to collectively convert to Christianity. The Assyrians no longer have a country but they're still about 5 million strong worldwide. I am one of them. 💪🏼

@thought giver in reality "I" doesn't exist. It's an illusion, a result of endless war between divide and rule where more you want to rule, more you need to divide. It started by big bang as chaos in cosmic scale and with Satan in our reality. An endless war between God and devil, chaos and order. No country will exist at the end. Unity is philosophy of universe. Truth is one, the rest is chaos
@thought giver this is how you train AI. Councesness creates reality. It's different for bees, ants, humans. If you zoom out from SagittariusA, you will see all the past coming towards you in slow motion. "I" doesn't exist in that reality. Fusion continues beyond event horizon. You simply need more gravity to make fusing iron possible. Black hole is same proton in other level. It's building an atom, very big one. Welcome to heaven:) where god/gravity could jail the light, or conserve the energy. This means that the black hole is an archive, one unity, complete simulation, ready to go AI. We are all same, divided by devil or big bang. I doesn't exist. This is philosophy of consciousness, the final result will be.

I do free tours of the Assyrians in the British Museum every Wednesday at about 2 pm or 3 pm (sometimes as late as 4 pm). I then finish it with the Middle East Gallery upstairs. It lasts about 1 hour or more. I have been doing this for about 2 years. I stay until the museum closes at 4:50 pm. I also do a small talk about the Rossetta Stone. I start at the Black Obelisk of Shalmenesser III at the bottom of the Egytian gallery. I have learnt from other people's tours and I have added material of my own.
Cool respect bro sounds pretty dope ngl
I hope you give Assyrians their proper respect and acknowledgment as exceptional innovators , scholars, astronomers, mathematicians, engineers and civilized people…. Not just conquerors like how they’re described in most museums I’ve visited.

@@sagesarabia5053 I think that it was the Summerians who were the really great innovators etc. I do, however, say that Tiglath Pileser III 745 -727 BC had the first standing army and used the latest technology (iron weapons). Also, I point out that Ashurbanipal had the first full sized library in the world (well before Alexandria). I point out the amazing detail of depictions of Ashurbanipal in the museum. He is usually depicted with his stylii in his belt (which can be seen at the British Museum) to show that he could read and write (even when he was fighting lions). Also, the Assyrian Lion Hunt friezes in the British Museum are some of the best art in the museum, particularly the dying lioness.

I’m ethnic Assyrian/Syriac/chaldean (all same thing basically) , my whole family is and we speak/read/write Aramaic, my culture is amazing with a lot of mysteries still.
Akkadian was the language of Assyria, The Assyrian king, Tiglath Pilaser iii made Aramaic as secondary language in the Assyrian empire, and later Akkadian language disappeared. Also, Chaldeans and Syriac are not Assyrians.
@@TheYOUSIFYOUSIF it’s all under one roof, idiot. People like you divide my culture wether it’s assyrian/chaldean we speak the same language and come from the same place...
@@TheYOUSIFYOUSIF There is more evidence in support of modern Assyrians being the descendants of ancient Assyrians than otherwise. Also, modern Assyrians retained much more of the ancient language, culture, and customs, than any other ethnic group, and many of the ancient customs can only be found in the modern Assyrian community.
And it's not like the ancient Assyrians vanished and suddenly a group of modern people popped up and started calling themselves "Assyrian" for shits and giggles. The term has been used after the fall of the empire, through the Hellenistic period, the middle ages, and early modern period to refer to a distinct group of people living in the area known as the "Assyrian Triangle", because the Assyrians never vanished.
So, considering all the linguistic, cultural, and genetic distinctions (all majorly influenced by ancient Mesopotamian ancestry) that sets them apart from *every other ethnic group* in Mesopotamia and beyond, who else could they possibly be if not the descendants of their ancient namesake? Because they sure as hell didn't come from nowhere, and I don't see any other ethnic group claiming to descend from the ancient Assyrians, or ancient Mesopotamians in general.

I love your videos and if only you can add arabic to your subtitle options, i would share them with sooo many people!! :)
Subbed to Cy and almost forgot to drop you a like. Well done guys well done
Been subscribed to Magelan TV for about 6 months now. Well worth every penny!!
Great stuff. Really enjoyed watching it.
@HistoryTime This is the 2nd documentary I have watched on the Assyrian Empire in as many days. Great job. I have had the privilege to visit uninhibited; many of these places - from the original aqueduct of Nineveh - the Wadi's of Mosul - the original sarcophagus of Jonah who predicted the destruction of Nineveh - Battlefield of Gaugamela where Alexander the Great secured his 1st major victory (I delivered the marble plaque marking the site of battle in a old Huey Helicopter) - the ancient city of Amadiya and home of the 3 wise men - and so many more amazing places of the Ancient World. Unfortunately my memory has started to fade; but i can see them vividly in my mind. I appreciate the hard work and for helping to jog my memory. Salute.
THANKS FOR SHARING NICE HISTORY WORDS.❤🙏🏻❤🙏🏻❤
I wonder how many people of the Assyrian Diaspora are watching this :3 Pretty sure they are (one of) the largest peoples without a true homeland.
Despite this many people don't know of them. They're lumped in along with Orthodox Greeks in the event known commonly around the world as The Armenian Genocide. The most prevalent interaction westerners might have with them is with Iraqi refugees from the Gulf wars, or more recently the Exodus of 2003. With IS destroying some of the few Neo-Assyrian monuments. I heard that as much as 30% of all Iraqi refugees are Assyrian. O.o
@Deshone Robinson haha.. no they were not black.. just look at 13:10 min. They were white.. pls stop that bullsh**
Very well done, most informative...TY so much!
Utterly facinating! Thanks for this video!
You seriously did an amazing job!!
Thank you; very comprehensive and revealing. Excellent !!!
Keep em coming mate!! Great work.
Thank you man, just suscribed, very good content, very nice narration, keep on, this is a good thing you are doing for humanity.
Fascinating documentary that is (basically) the same ol', same ol', story of any rising and falling empire.
I particularly liked the way you dodged the religious element:
It is true to say the Assyrian explanation is more worldly (which means it may or may not be a truthful account).
This kind of thing allows people to make up their own minds - and that is commendable.
im into egypt and assyrian history aswell, great!
Studying history is as important as studying math. The real world applications are just more subtle. It requires wisdom, not just knowledge.
Egypt was part of assyrian empire and after that persian empire and after that for him self
@@armin3068 Wtf ? Egypt existed way before assyria
@@hamzab9368 you right that my bad 🤷🏼♂️❤
@@hamzab9368 but it was a pharaoh that was depicted in a dog leash on his knees at the side of the Assyrian king seated on pharaohs thrown while the Assyrian army ruled Egypt!
Ashur the Great 👍🏽
Assyrians had the most powerful military of the ancient near east took the Persians and Babylonians and rebellions every where to destroy them.
In the end and with so much internal turmoil and fighting, that powerful military became weaker and was annihilated by mostly Nabuchadnasser and his army, and the Medes to a lesser extent!
@@rasheedelakhlaqsiz4753 The Medes played the decisive role. The war was largely a stalemate between 626 and 614, which was when the Medes really got involved. That shifted the balance very quickly.
@@TRAINAlytics Synthians and Cimmerians were involved too, it basically took a Coalition plus a civil war to take them down
not only a coalition of medes, persians, babylonians, scythians…, but a scientific analysis that was done a few years ago stated that the fall of the Assyrian empire began two centuries before, with devastating climate changes that withered the entire region, add nonstop civil wars to that and it was just a matter of time till it all came down.
the coalition of nations against Assyria were just patiently waiting for that ripe time to attack, it’s as if the whole universe was determined to bring Assyria to destruction. An amazing legacy finally ended. A nation of so many firsts, which ran an empire for 1300 years , and set the standard for all future empires after her. The Medes and Persians literally mimicked the same empire they hated and warred with, as Assyria, love her or hate her, was the Model for all.
@@AlenOfAshur I'm sure they mimicked alot from the Assyrians they just toned it down on the violence cruelty a bit ironic how violently and completely they were destroyed too just ruins remained and the inhabitants dispersed or killed I know there are still people today that claim lineage to them.
Thank you so much for uploading this video. It is helping me get through the pandemic!
Get it right SCAMDEMIC...
Another good job. Thank you Pete Kelly💙
From the Mesopotamia❤️love your channel
Is it funny that their greatest king was also basically their last?
Often the way with ancient empires. Over-stretching = screwing over your descendants.
@@HistoryTime happens in more modern empires too.
@Jordanian Christian .....YHVH is sovereign. Almighty God, The Creator, The God of Israel. ......and He ends dynasties and kingdoms in a day no matter how powerful they think they are.
