What made you guys want to be a CRNA?! For me it was the autonomy and independence! pay is nice too ;)
Same boat as you brother! low GPA but still motivated!I hope I can follow your foot steps! Texas bro!
I just became a CRNA earlier this year and can say that it was totally worth the blood, sweat, and tears. Nice video, good luck in anesthesia school 👍
Congratulations!!!! Did you take your boards? let me know peace
That is awesome. Can't wait to be on the other end with you.
How hard was it to get into nurse anesthetist school? How many prior years as a rn did you have?
Great job bro inspirational. Just graduated with my BSN and I’m in a CVICU. Hope to be in your shoes one day!
Damn you kicked ass, congrats man. I think the admission committees are impressed with a 4.0 in hard science and graduate level classes and can forgive a lower overall GPA if you bring that to the table. You also kicked ass on the GRE.
I appreciate it! I did put a lot of time and effort into being a better overall candidate!
I might have to take advanced pathology, I have the same gpa as you. Nervous about gre’s, don’t do well with standardized exams. You gave me more hope, but also understand more work is going be required from us because of our gpa. I didn’t know about the other certifications outside CCRN. Man, pray I can get in. You really open belief for me!
You can do it! You already understand that it's going to take extra work. Just be dedicated. It is a slow process getting thing done one at a time, but when you've finished everything and you're ready to apply, just have faith and trust the process. Everything that you have done to make yourself more competitive will have been worth it.
Hi , I am Kim, an RN immigrated from South Korea to US. I really like your video. keep us updated!! as I also am an aspiring CRNA. Props to all of your endeavours!!
Awesome video! Thank you for making this 👍
Such an inspiration, Jae! I have a previous bachelors degree in biology which I got with the bare minimum. I know I’m going to have to work hard to achieve my goal of CRNA school. Except, I just bombed to NCLEX. Look forward to more content! Thanks.
Thank you for the video! Excited to follow your journey!
Behavioral health is where my sociology degree comes in handy..good luck in CRNA school!!
Nice video would like to see updates once you start school.
First I want to congratulate you on your success. I also have 3 years of experience in MICU, low gpa 3.09 like you and I took organic chem got B and also retook my science A and P and general chem which I got A on both. I have CCRN now I am planing to take my GRE next month. I have a question three questions, I have a CCRN, would it be smart to take the CMC certificate? The second question I have for you is can you pls share how you constructed your personal statement? I would love to send you mine and maybe you can help me to present my nursing education, certificates and experience to be a better applicant. And lastly, which schools did you apply?
Thank you so much for posting this video
Hi,
What school did you take your organic chemistry and statistics course
Wow. Thank you for this.
Awesome video! Thank you brotha
Defining a GPA as low depends on various things like the collage program , the educational system in your country .. etc
Here in Egypt a 3.0 GPA score is considered " very good "
So you see what I'm talking about..
CRNA programs need to find other fair ways to evaluate the applicants .
Great video, I found it really informative. My question for you is how do programs view poor grades in prior programs? I dropped probably close to 8 mechanical engineering classes with a 2.7 GPA prior to bringing myself back to a 3.2 in nursing. Will this show determination, or more likelihood of failure?
Most programs that I am aware of look at your overall GPA and it typically needs to be above 3.0. Your grades should also trend upwards in your latter classes. This shows that you matured throughout your college years and took education more seriously. I think your 3.2 nursing GPA will be fine as long as your overall GPA is also above 3.0.
Hi Jae! I really like the videos you have been posted. I’m a ICU nurse with 1.5 year of MICU. I recently got my CCRN. I’m now aiming to take the GRE exam and eventually apply for the army crna program. Which school did you take advanced pathophysiology with?
Gigi K. Umass Boston. Let me know if you have any other questions and good luck!
Gigi K. Lol damn we’re trying to do the same thing
Main question I have is what did you do and how did you prep to get a 310 on the GRE? And last but not least I can't thank you enough for the time you took out of your day to pay it forward for us!
Absolutely. And check out my GRE video! I talk all about it in that one.
I am hoping to apply next year. I cannot express how nervous I am about it.
Thank you for the video. I was wondering what your grading scale is like? Do they drop you or give you time to remediate?
THIS IS NOT A LOW GPA!!!!! We should change this narrative :)
it is for grad schools lol
@@indianchika123 I went to grad school with people that had lower.
Dang! I had no idea you even commented on my video! lol! When applying and researching crna program I had the mindset that my GPA was low. I actually still do consider it low compared to the average, but obviously I overcame that with other areas of my application! That's what I think I'm trying to show/prove in this video :)
@@indianchika123 does he mean 3.9, .1 from a 4.0 or 3.09, .2 from a 3.2?
Retaking those hard science courses is impressive! How did you balance them with work?
It was definitely challenging. I just made sure to schedule my work hours on separate days from class days!
Great advice!!!
How old were you (are you now) when you got accepted into CRNA school?
How hard was it to get A’s in organic chem, and physics? Did you study your ass off? And did you take both of these classes at once while working full time?
I would say those classes were challenging, but definitely not impossible. It just take a little hard work and dedication on your part. I took each close 1 semester at a time while working full time. I stayed constantly busy for about 2 years working on all this stuff.
Did you retake both a year of general physics (with or without calculus?) and ochem or do you mean that you took a graduate-level class in each? If so, what sort or physics class did you take?
I'm just about to get my BS in chemistry (but am thinking about becoming a nurse now) and received a B average in Ochem, a C average in calculus-based physics, and will likely end up with a C+ average in physical chemistry. I'm not sure how many of these classes I'll need to retake to be competitive.
Ochem and physics were undergrad level. I believe my physics class was a general one without any calculus involved. Just my opinion, but I don't think you should even be worrying about physics classes right now if you haven't even gotten into nursing school. The road to becoming a CRNA is a one step process. You can't get to CRNA without being an ICU nurse, and you can't become an ICU nurse without going to nursing school. You can't get to nursing school without having taken nursing school prereqs and the TEAS and/or the HESI. Sorry, not trying to discourage you but it's a long long process to CRNA that should be looked at like a marathon rather than a sprint.
Hey man, where did you take this Advanced Patho course? I am hoping I don't need to take it as I have a application out there now. But I'm planning in advance and want to take this and O-Chem. Good luck to you on your journey sir!!
Hey man! I took at online through UMass Boston. The class fills up fast though. Hope you don't need to take it either cus it would be one less thing you have to worry about. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks and good luck to you too!
What schools did you apply to?
Hi! What's your GPA after retaking classes or your GPA when you got accepted to CRNA school?
I can't tell you off the top of my head but I don't think it went up a whole lot just because of the fact that I had already taken sooo many college credit hours. I think the point I made to admissions committees by taking those courses again was that I changed my mentality with school and was serious/focused about studying/school.
Hi ive been watching your videos! Any update?
Do you suggest taking all the class in one semester or spread it out in two. Asking because I am retaking classes and also want to study for the CCRN. I want to apply for the US army nurse anesthesia program.
Which programs did you applied to?
Hey Jae! I'm currently applying to CRNA schools on the east coast and have a similar story to yours. Would you be able to look over my resume/personal statement and give me any tips you may have? It would be greatly appreciated! lmk!
Sure, dm me on instagram if you can and i'll send you my email
Congrats, I would never be a candidate lol I barely passed with my associates and all my pre reqs were low grades as well
It’s definitely not for everyone, but anyone can do it with a little hard work
I was trying to figure out what country the flag represented, then I realized it was Texas lol
Lol
hahaha
Many Texans would argue that we are a country 😂
Ro Ashley 🤣
Thanks for the video! Was your GPA a 3.09 after Taking/Re-taking all of Those classes?
I can't remember to be honest haha. But I commented to someone else that after retaking my courses it didn't go up much due to the fact that I already had sooo many credit hours from previous classes.
Haha that’s ok! I actually got accepted to a CRNA program that’ll being in June. Super excited to get started and to also watch your journey!
So i have a question, I was recently accepted into an MSN program at Emory but I want to be a crna. How would i go about becoming a crna with a general msn degree?
Your GPA, GRE, and ICU experience are the only things that matter. And also your interview... You can get the MSN if you want and still apply to CRNA school, but I wouldn't waste my money or time with that.
Hi,
I hope that you're doing well. My science's GPA is 4.0, nursing accumulative is 3.9. However, when they combined with my BSN majored in business from oversea, my accumulative dropped to 3.4. Do you think that I should focus on my GRE or what should I do about my GPA?
3.4 is a good enough gpa to get an interview. Just do your best on the GRE, you don't need a super stellar score or anything because your GPA is decent. You will need to ace your interview though. So when you apply and get interviews that's what you need to mainly focus on.
Did you do an ABSN or did you get a 4 year degree before CRNA school ?
I did the 4 year traditional route, which actually took me 6 years because I was a dodo. lol
where else did you interview? thanks!
Where did you go to school?
I have a 3.5 gpa, but got a C+ in gen chem should I retake it or waste of time ?
Focus on Orgo I.
Where did you take your undergrad courses?? I had the same GPA out of nursing school...will try to follow your steps!
I did them at my local community college
Do you have links to the specific resources you used and found helpful for the interview portion?
Kelsey Davis hey! I just studied my ccrn material again and used general interview/situational questions that I thought would be anesthesia relevant!
Nurse Anesthesia Jae Thank you for the quick response! I’m currently studying for my CMC from the slides provided on the AACN’s website. Hopefully this will be a good refresher as well for upcoming interviews. Love the videos and advice that you give, thanks again!
How did you get started in the ICU?
I honestly just applied to a bunch of listings all over. I think this applies to a lot of jobs, but if you're willing to relocate (i.e. move) you more likely to get the job you want.
안녕하세요 !!
What was your gpa
