@@DrLockdown I did the measurements of the micromaster Rodimus and he's only slightly smaller then a core class while having most of the key poses and looking gun AND seemingly being able to hold tiny stuff. So He's no a micromaster and is not a core class. SO, I like to call him A Microcore!

I'm kind of glad I went for studio series bb Core Shockwave over the Legacy Core Shockwave, with the more interesting color scheme and the lack of a stupid radar dish. Also said legacy figure came out way too soon as the Core BBM Shockwave was released a few months prior, heck that Shockwave I can probably still find at a store. That said, yeah Combiner Wars easily takes the cake.
Oh, and good news. The shapeways cw rodimus parts are also available on thingiverse. If anyone has or has access to a printer, they can still print their own.
Holy fuck, thank you for pointing out the legs. It’s such a glaring flaw, loose knees and no heels just makes for awful stability, but no one ever talks about it when the figure is brought up
Still have my CW version of Shockwave to this day, a proud part of my collection. When I got the Legacy one and looked it over, the tab and all... It just doesn't hit, and I seriously want to sell him and the Hot Rod off to track down the CW Hot Rod instead, as I absolutely ADORE the Blackjack mold as a fun, pocket-sized car lad
nothing will ever beat the cw shockwave for me just because he was a christmas gift from when i just started to collect and i was so happy to have A version of the character nostalgia is a powerful thing
I never before realized why I didn't really like Legacy Hot Rod's transformation until watching this, but the whole point about the steps happening in halves is right on the money. And it made me think about other transformations from that perspective (in a good way though). I remember getting the hot rod... basically because it was there on the store shelf. Pretty sure I grabbed him with another character (might've been skids). Never really clicked, but never made me conclude "I regret getting this." By the time I saw a legacy shockwave on shelves, though, I had learned. I looked at him and thought "What's the idea behind this thing? Hold up, why does he have a radar dish? Why is there no color?" And saw zero reason to buy.
That combined fanmode of the three Shockwaves feels like it could be modified slightly to turn it into a hulking great big fusion cannon. Gave me G1 Galvatron vibes, but it could be even wilder looking. Kinda wish I got more of this mould just for that ridiculous build :P
I once saw the Kingdom Hot Rod and Soundwave in my stores. (And yes, I went for the Soundwave over Hot Rod. I suppose you could say that it was the right choice. (Which it is.))
Of course they prioritized combiner compatibility for Shockwave. The reason they had was sadly simply a reference to The Revenge of Bruticus. And here's a drinking game idea. Take a shot every time he references Shape ways shutting down.
Loved the Thunderbirds reference with CW Shockwave, Doctor Lockdown! Thew often makes similar jokes in his videos, with a few Mighty Boosh references and/or quotes thrown in.
@DrLockdown did you ever meet the voice actors? I once met Shane Rimmer (Scott) and Matt Zimmerman (Alan) at a convention in the UK. Shane signed my Supersize Thunderbird 1 playset on both wings.
@@DrLockdown that's unfortunate, especially since the episode "Cry Wolf" was set mostly in Australia. I'm sure there were other rescue situations there too throughout the series.
My blackjack mold has suffered from noodle limbs, they flop around because of wear down seen with the white powder you see with ball joint degradation, but it stands and can still kinda hold a pose
So with shapeways I think it may actually be coming back. I’m not entirely sure on the details so anyone can correct me if I’m wrong but recently shapeways had a hierarchy change within and got rid of the higher ups that caused shapeways to go bankrupt to begin with and then teamed up with another company to help financially. There is an article on their website talking about this right now that was released a few days ago.
Ooh. Last I checked on their website they were only working for corporate, and the marketplace was still down, but it would be nice for that to come back.
I think the issue with core class is that a lot of the new designs like Geocron and Boulderdash are shelf warming. They are still sitting on the tabs at my local Walmart but you never see a Soundwave or Optimus, Megatron let alone a Rumble or Frenzy. I once saw two full pegs of Frenzy in a Target in Montana and the little devil on my shoulder said "dooo ittt, buy them all, sell them for $35 each, why shouldn't I", I didn't, but back to my point, why didn't these get releases in waves instead of repainting figures that already didn't sell or releasing figures no one cares about. They should have used the line as a cool repaint line or made new cassettes. I would have bought every optimus, megatron, seekers, soundwave etc.... It's right there in the name even, Core Class, use it to for your core best selling figures and do awesome repaints of them instead of holding back figures everyone wants like Buzzsaw to help sell the Greed Version of Soundwave lol.
I bought the legacy Hotrod and put him on my shelf. I never actually paid attention to it or even transformed it 😂 I just liked putting core class sized characters with my Titans. I never gave him the chance to be loved or hated
I instantly snapped the shoulder on the combiner wars hotrod back when it released since I've always preferred figuring transformations out by myself, granted I was new to transformers having just come to the fandom in 2015 but it did disappoint me, its been almost 10 years now since that day which is crazy to me and I can honestly say now though that I'd take combiner wars over the new ones any day, the designs are more interesting and omg that shockwave is one I've always wanted because of vangelus and I wouldnt mind giving the hot rod a second chance with the 10 years of transformers experience i now have. I actually just chose combiner wars legends Skywarp as my christmas present from my mum this year so I'm very excited for him and to revisit that era of design style before everything went towards nothing but accuracy.
Picked up the studio series core class shockwave recently and I was very impressed, it’s not quite the combiner version and I still love the tfp version, great work sir
You know. I always thought the opaque windows looked overall just fine one everything else (especially mtmte Optimus from that comic con two back that flashed by for a second, I think that would just look way worse with clear windows) but MAN legacy Hot Rods weird slightly blue-ish gray looks like it’s DISEASED
Legacy Hot Rod is just a Mcdonalds toy, and I mean a modern "litterally no budget and care at all" type. The Micromaster pack in with Star Convoy is a actual Core Class figure.
Y’know, before it came out I was considering buying legacy Hot Rod to paint into the blue and purple get up he has in the latter issues of MTMTE. Glad I never did.
I understand the complaints with Legacy Hot Rod but I cannot hate him. I adore this guy. He was one of my first figures I got when I was coming back to collecting. Mine holds together fine and aside from some loose knees has aged pretty great. He’s not the best core they’ve done (Tasmania Kid says hello), but he’s not the worst. Shockwave though? Shockwave BLOWWWSSS.
I think the new one looks pretty good actually, especially in combined mode. Though CW is a tough one to beat. I still think it looks very overall. It's the only combiner from that line that I can confidently say doesn't need an update.
God I wish I was more aware of older figures when I had started collecting. A lot of the figures I got early on just happened to be just the latest versions of them assuming it was the best option. I started getting a few modern core figures since starscream was one I picked up and I have hot rod because of that, is one of a few figures I have that I disliked pretty much instantly. Thankfully my core Shockwave is actually the studio series one, which is a figure I am quite fond of, but I kinda wish I gave CW Shockwave a shot, but I'd overlooked it since when looked back for Shockwaves that already were made I was looking for a larger scale one lol. Anyways random collecting ramble, but great video lol
Hey DocLoc, wanted to know if you've done a review for the Titanium Series War Within Optimus, as it has been a considered purchase. If you haven't, what are your thoughts on the figure?
I do not, but I've got one in the backlog I've been meaning to do eventually. No idea about war within prime sadly, but I do have Megatron. War within Megatron is...awful.
I actually really love the paint choices on the takara shockwave, in gun mode it looks like an energy glow from inside while making the legs look more solid and durable and not some .. energon structure? The clear of the cw version just feels out of place around the knees to me, despite the colour balance of having it appear central and on each limb
Second opinion 05, as it's a remake of the fifth review I made on this channel. (Actually it should be SO-05A, as SO-05B will eventually be battle core Optimus prime from the same original video)
How would the BBM core have ranked in this review? The articulation is disappointing, but I think the transformation and sculpted detail more than make up for it. You can also fan mode a crab tank out of it.
Shockwave is my favorite character, so of course I picked up the legacy one. He’s just ok, honestly. The combiner wars one is definitely better, and I’m still extremely happy I was able to find that one. I only saw it in stores once. Hot Rod though, that was one I didn’t pick up because it looked awful.
whenever someone says the combiner wars shockwave is better than the legacy, I just say, "ok, so?" I love legacy shockwave no matter how the combiners wars one is.
18:27 - I think someone looked into the future, saw your video and stole the idea for the newest series - Gundam GQuuuuuuX (Yes I would like to buy a consonant please). Plus my Legacy Shockwave is a contradiction - very loose knees and a head joint that makes me think I'm either going to break it or my finger every-time I transform it.
I think you are being overly harsh on Legacy Shockwave. His alt mode, while not as good as Siege Shockwave's, generally conveys the overall design quite well. Of course, it doesn't do this perfectly, but at the same time, it emphasizes key design elements like the bridge or wings. Plus, it's a standard Core Class figure, so some design elements will inevitably be conveyed less effectively than with the Leader from Siege. I also like that, unlike Siege Shockwave, Legacy Shockwave uses parts of his alt mode in his robot mode (rather than just parts forming). Sure, it comes down to the fact that Shockwave now just has shoulder-mounted gun-wings, but somehow this gives him a certain individuality not found in other versions of the character. I don't know why, but I like the idea that Shockwave can be more of a fast and agile flyer rather than just another bulky heavy destroyer. I certainly agree that Combiner Wars Shockwave is objectively a better figure. But as many say (including you), he’s almost the best Legends figure of all time. Does the fact that Legacy Shockwave is worse than the best Legends figure of all time make him something bad or terrible? I just want to say that Legacy Shockwave is a good and interesting figure that has its objective shortcomings. But at the same time, I wouldn’t say that he’s as bad as Kingdom Core Class Hot Rod.
Oh no he's definitely not as bad, which is why he rates a score higher. And I judge him in his own corner, not just as "worse than CW". I like plenty of other legends shockwaves that aren't as good CW, one of which should be getting its own review in a few days. I just genuinely think it kinda stinks, and I have since it first released.
i kind of feel like im going crazy, i bought CW shockwave a couple months ago after hearing a lot of praise of it from folks on youtube and since im a big shockwave fan he seemed like a must-have. however the feet on my copy are insanely loose and floppy and pop out of the joints too easily, i even briefly lost one of the feet in my couch a while back. but i've never found anyone else online having this issue. its really the one issue i have with it but it makes playing with it really unfun and i was wondering if anyone here knew of any possible fixes for this? i want to be able to enjoy such a cool toy without getting so frustrated.
legacy hot rod was one of my first figures when I started collecting so it holds some sentimental value to me. I do agree that it is a shit figure in terms of articulation and transformation, but it’s literally the only version of hot rod post prime wars that you can find for an affordable price. I still love Roddy even though he sucks tbh
55:50 Oh no you don't! As someone who's damned near addicted to plain white u toasted bread, this offends me Mr Lockdown. That's right, Mr. And real Doctor would be smart enough to recognise the inherent simplistic beauty and veritable delicacy that is well made plain white untoasted bread.
Got my rodimus when i was around 7 and the day after i let a teammates little brother have a go on the way back from a game. That little fucker broke it in 5 minutes. He didn't touch it until the next day when his arm fell off. Ah, well. Would have been nice to plug hot rod onto my optimus maximus, but he was outclassed not long after by the titans return
Personally, I don’t really mind Legacy Shocks. And frankly Core Hot Rod isn’t HATEFUL, but tbf I don’t own one myself. Maybe that would change my opinion?
My Legacy shockwave gets either the head or the bridge stuck mid transformation and it requires an ungodly amount of effort to unstick, it's the worst transformation on a legends figure I've experienced. Sadly I haven't been able to track down the CW version
love the content love the marathon, just wondering about something. i entered the blokees giveaway and my name was on the winner list, just curious if i actually won or if someone else with the same name did, thx
Update: nevermind i just checked my emails and yes it was me, regardless thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you. i am so happy to win and cant wait to have another another another another another another another optimus prime with my like 20th matrix
Core class is dipping pretty heavily in sales and becoming less profitable. It doesn't help that they're making awful choices when it comes to who is and isn't core class.
I wrote most of this back in 2023, so I had to go back and change a few things to reflect this. Some parts of the script unfortunately came out a bit dated.
legacy shockwave is a serviceable toy at best, which is it's problem, it's a shockwave, it needs to be better than that due to being shockwave also the radar dish.
I know this is a versus review but honestly I think it would have been best to focus less on comparing legacy shockwave to the combiner wars version and more on comparing it to the siege version and why it fails at being a downscale of it, as the comparisons to the combiner wars shockwave feel like an apples to oranges comparison seeing as they are trying to do two completely different things, while the siege version is what the legacy figure is clearly trying to emulate
I don't think that would work for hot rod, as he shares nothing with any version. Plus comparing legends to full size figures would be a bit reductive.
@DrLockdown I know it wouldn't work for hot rod (especially since any comparison would just make that thing look worse) I was exclusively refering to shockwave for that kind of comparison, also I don't think it's that reductive to compare a smaller figure to a larger one if the smaller one is so clearly trying (and failing) to emulate the larger one
I am a massive Hotrod Rodimus fan and sadly I do not like the Kingdom toy either, like you said Doc, the paint is awful and the alt mode will not tab together, In robot mode Why is his head hollow, his articulation is meh, give me another Core Hotrod and do it right My only issue with the Takara Legends CW Shockwave was the controversy around him coming with TM (Crab Star Sign) yeah I posted I got it and I was booted from the Facebook coup because people assumed that I was making a joke about a fatal illness
i skipped out on KD/legacy hot rod, despite my completionist urge. he just didn't look that good. i do like legacy shockwave, i think his colors are better than CW (despite me not owning it), buuuut i will say how i have more fun with the bbm core class shockwave, just a better toy, despite it's "exposed head" and no thigh swivel
No. It's a remake of a review I made about eight/nine years ago, expanded with all the modern techniques I have now. And it's uploaded in the afternoon because I didn't get it done on time
@DrLockdown Transformers interstellar is a fan-made Transformers movie and that oversized Optimus prime was used in that movie so I associate that oversized age of Extinction Optimus prime toy with that fan made movie
I honestly don't like CW Rodimus or Legacy Hot Rod. I don't mind that Rodimus is different, it's just that he's. . . kinda ugly. I feel he just looks generic, and not as authoritative as Rodimus should be. Meanwhile, Hot Rod tries to be accurate, fails, and generally looks like shit.

Somebody please tell me the smockscreen figure he used for size comparisons!
I will.
Revenge of the fallen.
No joke. It came in a two pack with stealth Starscream.
Tank you
whenever someone says the combiner wars shockwave is better than the legacy, I just say, "ok, so?" I love legacy shockwave no matter how the combiners wars one is.
Hope you'll have a good day
Wait, is the TT Legends Shockwave not a richer color than Henkei Cyclonus?
It is but they're still both very pale
18:27 - I think someone looked into the future, saw your video and stole the idea for the newest series - Gundam GQuuuuuuX (Yes I would like to buy a consonant please).
Plus my Legacy Shockwave is a contradiction - very loose knees and a head joint that makes me think I'm either going to break it or my finger every-time I transform it.
17:40 Was that Fuck A Dog by Blink 182?
This is the third review I've used it in over my nine year tenure, and you're the first commenter to point it out.
Congratulations. Fucking finally.
@@DrLockdown Aha 😅. They’re in my top 3 favourite bands, the other 2 are Green Day and Oasis if you care. Didn’t know you were into their music
Who is the purple six wheel car guy? I want one.

@@DrLockdown Such are the perils of back-collecting
42:00, would help if you referred to the size as "Basic" which is the original and true name for that scale.
Nobody in the community calls it that anymore.
The general colloquialism, even in third party, is legends.
i kind of feel like im going crazy, i bought CW shockwave a couple months ago after hearing a lot of praise of it from folks on youtube and since im a big shockwave fan he seemed like a must-have. however the feet on my copy are insanely loose and floppy and pop out of the joints too easily, i even briefly lost one of the feet in my couch a while back. but i've never found anyone else online having this issue. its really the one issue i have with it but it makes playing with it really unfun and i was wondering if anyone here knew of any possible fixes for this? i want to be able to enjoy such a cool toy without getting so frustrated.
13:50 Hell yeag bunlith
Been looking for a reasonably priced one on eBay for over a year. FINALLY.
legacy hot rod was one of my first figures when I started collecting so it holds some sentimental value to me. I do agree that it is a shit figure in terms of articulation and transformation, but it’s literally the only version of hot rod post prime wars that you can find for an affordable price. I still love Roddy even though he sucks tbh
The action master version of combiner wars shockwave Has no translucent legs. But the clear plastic should be fine

Leg-Piping
Personally, I don’t really mind Legacy Shocks. And frankly Core Hot Rod isn’t HATEFUL, but tbf I don’t own one myself. Maybe that would change my opinion?
My Legacy shockwave gets either the head or the bridge stuck mid transformation and it requires an ungodly amount of effort to unstick, it's the worst transformation on a legends figure I've experienced.
Sadly I haven't been able to track down the CW version
Rally car?! Im confused never seen a rally car look like that before
love the content love the marathon, just wondering about something. i entered the blokees giveaway and my name was on the winner list, just curious if i actually won or if someone else with the same name did, thx
Update: nevermind i just checked my emails and yes it was me, regardless thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you. i am so happy to win and cant wait to have another another another another another another another optimus prime with my like 20th matrix
I wish I knew. Blokees handles all that stuff on their end. Maybe try emailing them?
Ah phew
Core class is dipping pretty heavily in sales and becoming less profitable. It doesn't help that they're making awful choices when it comes to who is and isn't core class.
I wrote most of this back in 2023, so I had to go back and change a few things to reflect this.
Some parts of the script unfortunately came out a bit dated.
Ahh, that makes sense. Also, hi!
10.14 might be crazy what I’m about to say
legacy shockwave is a serviceable toy at best, which is it's problem, it's a shockwave, it needs to be better than that due to being shockwave
also the radar dish.
i personally wont say shockwave is bad but i understand
My combiner wars Rodimus literally broke at the shoulder. Fix it
IT’S SHOCKWAVE!
I am a massive Hotrod Rodimus fan and sadly I do not like the Kingdom toy either, like you said Doc, the paint is awful and the alt mode will not tab together, In robot mode Why is his head hollow, his articulation is meh, give me another Core Hotrod and do it right
My only issue with the Takara Legends CW Shockwave was the controversy around him coming with TM (Crab Star Sign) yeah I posted I got it and I was booted from the Facebook coup because people assumed that I was making a joke about a fatal illness
That seems a little strict. The rest of the fandom has already been making those jokes.
@DrLockdown
Ikr, sadly, the people of that particular group seemed to have been overly sensitive
@@DrLockdown
I am really disappointed in the Legacy Hotrod, he is my Favorite character and this toy makes him look dead
Guys, I think I’m starting to miss Core Class already
i skipped out on KD/legacy hot rod, despite my completionist urge. he just didn't look that good. i do like legacy shockwave, i think his colors are better than CW (despite me not owning it), buuuut i will say how i have more fun with the bbm core class shockwave, just a better toy, despite it's "exposed head" and no thigh swivel
I disagree with you on shock wave, I love core class shockwave, but the old hotrod is way better compared to core hotrod
Oooo Shockwave
I've been thinking about geting the CW Shockwave but I just got the magic square Spock.
Is this a reupload?
No. It's a remake of a review I made about eight/nine years ago, expanded with all the modern techniques I have now.
And it's uploaded in the afternoon because I didn't get it done on time
Is there going to be a second opinion on I would say Transformers interstellar Optimus prime or that age of Extinction oversized Optimus prime one day
...interstellar?
I don't recall owning any figures with that subtitle
@DrLockdown Transformers interstellar is a fan-made Transformers movie and that oversized Optimus prime was used in that movie so I associate that oversized age of Extinction Optimus prime toy with that fan made movie
Aaahhhhh.
I remember now. Sorry. All nighter. Brain fried
Legacy shockwave is still awesome
It’s better then clear plastic
I'm here
I honestly don't like CW Rodimus or Legacy Hot Rod. I don't mind that Rodimus is different, it's just that he's. . . kinda ugly. I feel he just looks generic, and not as authoritative as Rodimus should be. Meanwhile, Hot Rod tries to be accurate, fails, and generally looks like shit.
I don't think core class was actually that successful
If it was then hasbro wouldn't have discontinued it
