So after almost a year of not really driving the Cupra, it's time to finally address the big thing that's been holding the build back. The old rollcage has to come out due to shoddy welding and a new (proper one) is going in. Also we're starting the journey of turning it into more of a track car, going for more power with stage 2 software and some more weight reduction. Stoked to be working on this again.

@Chris Are you concussed? I said "I found John's account" because Luke stated "I'd like to see you break it" Almost looking like Luke was trying to defend the cage's integrity, which is fucked. It was John who welded in this awful cage. Which is why I said it looks like I've found John's account. Does that make sense now? If it doesn't you seriously need to have words with yourself
Ahaha put it this way. That cage was going nowhere. I'm not claiming to be a master welder but my job does involve a fair bit from like 2 mm players to 20mm plate. A weld without gas or little gas will bubble up like a few of John's but is still fucking strong. That cage is better than no cage.
It’s actually harder to be this bad at mig welding than it is to be good at it coming from a professional welder
joe roberts i took welding in the 10th grade for 3 months and could do a far better job at mig welding than that guy did lol

This cage reminds me of my old MK6 fiesta ST150, I got told the shell was clean and never damaged, when I then stripped it for parts the entire left side had been welded on and the welds looked exactly the same as your cage! Can’t wait to see the progress on the cupra!

I was thinking the same! Welded once before on a college induction and I reckon I could do a better job haha
Where i live we have these shops you can pay to use their equipment and there is welder there so the owner of the shop just showed me quick how to use it and told me basics of how you know if youre welding wrong and how to adjust settings and let me tell you the welds i see here are worse than what i managed to produce on my first time on holding welder let alone someone who seemingly has done so many roll cages before

Change the 'diverter valve' for the OEM version. It's honestly the best setup for these engines, and recommended by most tuners, especially R-Tech.
Already got one on order 🤘 Bosch oem jobby cause I lost my original one haha

I agree absolute disgusting! worst fabbing and welding I’ve seen for a roll cage probably ever. Any skilled welder could weld those gaps no problem. This work makes me cringe. ps it’s not mig it’s flux core.

you should get a inlet manifold spacer aswell mate gives you slightly larger plenum and works as a thermal barrier to stop the manifold getting red hot and the best bit there cheap as chips.
Welding on that roll cage is almost the same as a ‘welder’ done on my sub frame 🤙 can’t wait to see more on the cupra!!!!

I remember seeing this when you first had it installed, can't remember if it was a forge meet or something, I seen those welds and I was horrified, I'm amazed you didn't kick off as soon as he was done, I didn't realise how bad it was with all the mounts and the top bars not even welded, that could have been so bad in a crash! Looking forward to seeing more cupra content though! Love the car as a whole haha
