What I admire most about Barenboim's technique, is that he does not move on to the next chord/ note until the strings have reached the apex of resonance, just before the decay.

Rudolf Serkin was a major influence on my exposure to and comprehension of the piano literature of the First Viennese School. His CBS recordings of Beethoven sonatas have stayed with me since I was a child. So, for better or worse, while listening to other artists' renderings of these pieces, I tend to think back to his treatments of these works, which ring in my ears to this day. Rudolf Serkin, in my opinion, is unrivaled. That does not, however, diminish my admiration for a performance like this, in which Barenboim's technical mastery of the instrument, his touch, his spirit of synthesis, and his wonderful expression are all completely captivating.

My favourite Beethoven sonata. I try to find something that I do not like about Barenboim here, but I can't. How carefully he tells the story. Great sense of rhythm , good emotional balance like what you can expect of a grandmaster. So much respect and understanding of what he's dealing with. A sort of "literal" interpretation, position of notes remain paramount, the best for students of music. Once more Beethoven's intentions are exposed with clarity. Oh! I could carry on but I won't.

+Emilia Capasso A MASTER WORK of the MASTER WORKS!Una OBRA MAESTRA DE LAS OBRAS MAESTRAS!Dura unos 50 minutos, pero es GENIAL!!Ives' Two Page Sonata is also interesting.
There is a colourful performance of this shorter work by the great pianist Shura Cherkassky on the market.
      Exito!Saludos,

well played, great work, at the end he was right to have said "WHAT THA FAAAAAk not even a standing ovation? bye!" . for someone who mastered an intimate piece he deserved at least one guy screaming in the back.

Best interpretation I've ever heard! He makes it seem so magical! I'm a big fan of Daniel Barenboim and I'm 13 years old, I've heard him give masterclasses and also read his amazing book. I hope I will have the opportunity to meet him someday !

Alberto Ioannucci Lang Lang took a master class from the Master Barenboim himself. Lang Lang definitely learned a few things from Barenboim. No one plays Beethoven better.

Part of the slow movement beginning at 10:31 reminds me of the Intermezzo movement (IV) in Brahms's Third Piano Sonata in F minor.
