    My mother used to wake us up at 7:00 am every Saturday to clean. We had to wash our sheets, dust everything, then wipe the walls and baseboards and clean the carpet. I turned out to be an obsessive cleaner and my sister turned out to be a slob. Same raising, different results. You never know.

      I completely agree. I understand the pathology of a mental illness encroaching on your environment, but even the most affected can be taught and supervised to clean up and maintain. I am beyond shocked and more than a bit angry at the teenage daughters who seem to think it's just mom's job to tidy up where they live. They live like pigs, but I think pigs are cleaner. This family is all smiles, so I really don't understand trying to hide behind "I'm depressed". BS. I have Multiple Sclerosis which has put me into a wheelchair. I still live in a clean house, two beds, two baths, and I have two cats. They have a clean little window seat where they can lounge on a sunny window, lots of toys and two always clean litter pans. I have a full kitchen, living room, and a sunny plant-filled porch and not a bit of dirt. I prefer to live as a human being, not rutting in my filth, neglecting my home and my animals so that we need to be bailed out with an extreme cleaning haz-mat team. This family is disgusting. I wonder how long she will have her university job once she makes the airwaves. If a 73 year old woman who can't walk and doesn't have cleaning help can maintain a lovely home, so can that obese and lazy woman and two healthy teenagers. This is lazy. There's just no excuse for living like a pig. NONE. I suspect this is a council flat, what Americans call subsidized or income adjusted housing, i.e., they are not ever going to have to pay their fair share for housing. I would support them being served with an eviction, because I suspect they can all live quite well under a bridge! If that sounds cruel, too bad. I'd love to walk again; but I can. Still, I am clean. That pig of a woman and those two lazy kids waddle through filth and think they are entitled to help? Please. My opinion.

    The grandparents like to spoil the kids with stuff according to the mother. My friend Dorothy had this situation. She asked her parents to treat the kids to experiences instead of buying stuff. Take them out to lunch, a movie, a weekend vacation. Takes lots of pictures (easy to do these days) She said that her kids now have a lifetime of memories. The occasional toy, object is great but make it really meaningful. Don't clutter up their lives with stuff that they are going to feel guilty about throwing out.

      Children learn from what their parents model for them. If parents are unable to create a clean environment around them, the children will initially adopt the same behavior. Therefore, it’s completely absurd to claim that one has taught their children how to be tidy just because they themselves are tidy. Additionally, even children with very clean parents can tend to develop hoarding behavior, especially when the parents constantly clean around the children and the children don't have to participate.

    • @Snookscat
      @Snookscat 6 месяцев назад +6

      True, but I think that at the teen’s age, she’s getting a bit past room-sharing. Teens need some space of their own for privacy. If both girls’ belongings were together with two beds or a bunk bed, multiple dressers, half a small closet each…it would again become crowded and non-functional in short order. They already gave up probably about 50-75% of their belongings and have what is most important to them. Now ask them to get rid of more? If there are any (normal) sibling or family disagreements, everyone has their own calm space to retreat to. Now, the girls can put a mattress or sleeping mat/bag on the floor to have a friend sleep over for a night. If they’re in the same room, that becomes impossible.
      In a few years if the oldest daughter moves out, Mom will get her own space back. When the kids are at school during the day, Mom has privacy. When they are sleeping at night, Mom has privacy. When the girls want to hang out in their rooms, Mom has privacy, or if Mom needs her bedroom space, there’s somewhere to shoo the kids to. When everyone is out scouting, they’re out. When they do have time to be together, they have the living room and kitchen to enjoy together. Personally, I wouldn’t mind this setup if I were in the same circumstance.
      It’s now way better than before and all three will be better able to maintain it. This will also go a long way towards lifting depression, as will having people over, and feeling “normal” again. I hope they’re all healthy and happy now and in the future. 😊

    Does this show not understand that hoarding is a mental health condition? It was once thought that hoarding was a type of OCD, but since 2015 it has been classified as a disorder of its own, a unique mental health problem. Unfortunate title for this video; it predisposes viewers to judge in terms of "laziness" vs. illness. Prolonged depression can also cause a person to feel exhausted and take away any motivation to act. Shame or guilt or dread of exposure gets in the way of asking for help.

    Kids really do learn what they live! You are their mother, lead by example! I get depressed and have a chronic illness but, I work from home on the computer and keep my house very clean! Teaching children to put things away after you use them, keeping clean, and being even sort of organized should be taught from the time they can walk! If these people, most are overweight I am too, would get up, move and clean their house everyday, they wouldn't have time or energy to be depressed. I know these 3 old farmer guys in my area. They grew up together and all are in their 90 s and still farming!! I recently asked one of them what keeps them going, motivated, and healthy. The man replied, "because we, me and my 2 old friends, always have a goal to finish/complete for tomorrow"!!! What an extremely true statement for all of us to live by❤. We can learn many useful and valuable things from our older generation ❤.

      Yeah, unfortunately, that part of the world's education system is pretty subpar. This is also why there's a lot of ignorant comments in the comment section. Some cultures breed a lack of curiousity and critical thinking. In its place are just judgemental assumptions. Condescending people are unaware of the complex science behind mental illness and assume everything is super simple and straightforward. But if it was super simple, then there wouldn't ever be a problem.

    But the daughters are way old enough to help, start cleaning their own rooms, cleaning the bathroom, as a teen girl she surely know what hygiene is and how to clean a sink that she use herself, its not the mom byherself. She is having her nails done but dosnt clean a bathtub or a sink is crazy..The mom gave up for some reason , but the girls are lazy at this point. It's overwhelming yes but you can't stay on your phone and in front of TV while living in house like this.

    The title is so mean. This women isn't lazy, she is overwhelmed, depressed and doesn't even know where to start. Her daughters should lend a hand

    As the team leaves, Debbie and the girls will start hoarding and not cleaning again. It's a much deeper issue !!!

      Maybe not the daughters . Their mom is the hoarder , hopefully it hasn’t ingrained into the daughters yet. My mom is a hoarder and when growing up she would never let us get rid of anything . She would even check big garbage bags if we took them out, thinking we were hiding stuff in them. The girls see it clean now and will want to keep it nice

    People being so judgmental in the comments, no need for it, they got the help they needed and I’m sure the girls will help because they have a looked at what the house looks like when it’s clean and I’m sure they prefer it that way💕 they haven’t hade a good example for over 4 years on how to keep clean but this is a good start.

    Why would you use a metal scouring pad to scratch porceline or metal surfaces? I would not do that.
