Ancient japanese shredding
Nah man. This is bluegrass.
I think it really just depends on whether or not you distort it lol. I'm sure if you put the shamisen through a guitar amp and cranked the gain you'd say it's metal. Maybe add some drums for good measure.
Sabbastian Wilson-Webb metal for sure
Def metal with all the fifths. The shamisen is even tuned to an open power chord.
The bluegrass Shogunate version
the two girls, very talented, were watching their finger placement on the fret just about the entire time they were playing. the old man, however, is so masterful that he just looks straight ahead at the audience. incredibly impressive.
You can't compare age and experience with youthful enthusiasm.
Fun fact: there are no frets on a shamisen 😊 finger placement is solely based on memory/sound..the only clear “indicator” is the line of separation/connection when you assemble and disassemble the shamisen’s neck
The girls preform as Ki&Ki (輝&輝) and have a lot of very good videos on RUclips.
+Riff Raff but who is the man they are playing with?
+Fritz Fritzl Thanks for that, really appreciate it.
Do you follow Tokyo lens as well?
I ha e purchased all that I can find on iTunes from Ki&Ki including one called KiKi band. I love them.
I wonder how much work must have gone into becoming so skilled. These folks are amazing and I’m so happy to live in a world where this kind of music can be shared!
One of the aspects of the Japanese that I love the most is their reverence for national treasures.
@the 48thRonin Tween lecturers who drop f-bombs are treasures above all else.
This Style Of Music
Never Gets Old
Just Better
As a Vocalist having worked with all sorts of musicians in a band I was in with my friends, I cannot stress how much STAMINA it takes to play this....it's like full-blown cardio and physical session....one of my closest friends plays one and she taught me that BREATHING is huge...she usually is very tired after performing but she loves it...
actually its not very complex from a guitarist point of view
Well mate if you ever get your hands on a shamisen I would love to hear you make that thing twang. I love the twang sound it makes and then the clap the sound wave makes when it hits the far end of the room is just soooooooo addictive. I only listen to 90s dnb and jungle and anime ops due to being autistic but I love that twang that only a shamisen performance can make.
Easily my favorite instrument besides bass guitar bass and saxophone and sax like things
@@jamesbaxter368 stop blaming being an autist for your cringe music taste anon,im an autist and i listen to loads of stuff, you just have bad taste lol
@@random_an0n i think you are not aware how much discipline has to go into this xD (i play guitar and 5 more instruments) so i would know
@@nikolanovakovic4150 then you suck no offence, there is nothing difficult about this piece.
The guy looks like he's in heaven when he plays

I am attracted too these woman.

@@Sikawi hahaha, you got me there bro
That's because he's actually already dead. He died an hour before this performance (anal gas gangrene) - wikipedia

The old man was shredding so epic he made me cry!
I don't know why but this instrument registers for me as the most metal traditional instrument I've ever heard.
Boss in the middle shows how it's done!
Asia has so many beautiful cultures.
three more reasons why the shamisen is amazing!
My guitar suddenly feels too puny.. Awesome stuff!
I love how tuning the instrument is part of the performance. So creative and clever.
It's because the shamisen is constantly losing tune. The strings stay tuned for around a minute and start losing tune. Kind of a flawed instrument in a way.
Who's watching this in 2020?😊
Don't you think this is a great play?
I love it! ❤️
me!
I do, he was a wonderful player indeed!
God, the second girl is so beautiful...and talented!!!!!
I'm pretty sure they can put on any resume: "I can annihilate a shamisen" and it would be a legitimate credential. They're skilled.
This is actually cool and not so easy to be performed. The musicians a very talented. Thanks for sharing.
Talented=thousands of hours of practice
I love this, wish there was music like this played live in Portland.
The Japanese garden in Portland occasionally features shamisen performances.
You mean to tell me that some hipster douche hasn't jumped on that bandwagon yet in Portland? 😂
What I love about this music is the charming use of sliding/wide vibrato, amazing!
Every time I hear this instrument I get such an urge to start fighting!
Even more, if it's combined with drums
😂
xddddddd
@Haya AlawadhiTo fight along side the villagers against the bandits, of course.
I discovered Shamisen music; while I was reading "Memoirs of a geisha" this music enchanted me indeed. I like this group in particular.
Moussa Suwwan /// Paris /// France
Same here! and speaking of "Memoirs of a Geisha" , do you know who plays the shamisen on the soundtrack, particularly on the fourth track, "Brush on Silk"?: ruclips.net/video/8snvxEunLO0/видео.html
@@JackRoarkk
Hello mako fitosan,
Memoir of Geisha music was Conducted by John Williams :
Violin solos by Itzhak Perlman. Cello solos by Yo-Yo Ma.
Shakuhachi solos by Masakazu Yoshizawa.
Koto solos by Masayo Ishigure, Hiromi Hashibe
By the way, I have read memoir of Geisha, at home, in English, a long while ago, and I watched
the preparation and the construction of the movie in America.
I also like to listen to shamisen played by the pretty girls KI&KI and Yoshida brothers.
One of them came to Paris, and I was there, at the Maison de la Culture du Japon à Paris 👍
If I have the chance to visit Japan i will go to Kyoto and Gion.

Salutations from Paris
@@moussasuwwan8623 oh, thank you! So it is NOT a shamisen I hear on the track "Brush on Silk", but rather a koto. I will go listen to some koto music now! Thank you for all the suggestions!
Impressionnant et super beau
Use listen to live performances when stationed in Okinawa,Japan. Awesome!
I wish i was there to see this performance live.
yoshida brothers haaha love them.
would rock to be able to play on that awesome instrument.
Entry to learning this Shamisen is quite high as the instrument is very expensive.
This will never get old.
Right? I love shamisen solos by master players so much. That crisp twang clap it's just....so good. The only time I've ever felt this good was when I learned what bass guitar is and this is still better
Can you imagine them playing electric guitars?!!!
that is pure shamisen rock
Holy shizz, the sensei's not even looking most of the time! :O
That's because he's blind. He's also deaf, mute, uncircumcised and paralyzed below his neck. Sad but true (Wikipedia)
@@brianflynn5355 lmfao I’m dying
@@brianflynn5355 haha, very funny 😐
Love it 😮 you can make melody’s with just a few strings 😳 wow
Japanese Banjos. Truly an amazing art form.
That girl rocks, I could hear horses galoping from that instrument.
I never tire of listening to this.....
It's amazing how the students likely learned from the master in the center, and yet all three have such vastly different sounds and styles. The first woman had a very harsh, pounding, sound in the best way that felt like a storm. The second girl had a sound evocative of spring; very light and free. And the master's was a whirlwind and barrage. Not as light and free as the second woman, but not as pounding and driving as the first. It's so interesting how much personality they can put into their music like that
I know right? Makes me want to give up everything and burn all my savings by devoting a year of my life learning this instrument I wanna make that twang clap noise. I'd say I'd learn longer but I don't have a lot of savings inflation really ruined my future goals
2:12 some bluesy sounding=)) Superb show!
I'm pretty sure this is not what the old Samurais got to listen to. Probably modern influences here.
@@RackwitzG To oversimplify it, japanese music uses a lot of pentatonic which is also used in blues.
This is a wonderful music~~~~~~~~~~
These artists have perfect talent from my POV.
Hey its Kiki I love them! They look so young on this video :)
Awesome. I love the setup !
