    I sang this song to my dying uncle on his death bed while he was sleeping and tears ran down his face. He loved the Grateful Dead. That night he died

    My Dad sang this to me as a child... Even as an adult he will occasionally. I now sing it to my daughter. Everytime I hear it I could smile and cry simultaneously. 🙌🏼🙏🏼❤️

    My dad sang this to me growing up before bed but he changed the lyrics to “Lay down my dear -my name-“, “I love you and daddy loves you the best” (I didn’t grow up religious so he didn’t add those parts) but I still absolutely love this song regardless. Brings back really good memories

    my mom used to sing this to me and my poppy (her mom) when I was younger. My poppy had Alzheimer’s but he never forgot his love for music. When he passed away, my mom sang this song at the service while my dad played guitar

    I think I was at this show - their last at the Fillmore East. I was 15. The ticket taker place a tab of acid in my mouth as he took my ticket. It was quite a night.

      No it was written by the Bahamian Gospel singer Joseph Spence. Please google his name. He was Wonderful! The Great Ry Cooder recorded a lot of his tunes.
