I find that when torquing the hitch head on to shank, it is easier (on back) to put the shank in the receiver 1/4 of a turn so that, the ball is facing towards the drivers or passenger side of the car and to me it's easier! :) Also, I could be wrong but it sure looks like the bracket holding the spring arms is too far forward, and you may not be getting as much weight distributed as ya should!!
Good tip. Regarding the brackets, I think I agree, but I'm not exactly sure how to fix it. If I move the brackets back, the emergency break and propane all need to be moved. I'm not worried about moving the propane, but I hesitate to move the break without some more research. I'm sure its easy, but I don't want to mess it up. I will say that because my brackets are so far forward, they connect to the thicker part of the spring bar. There is little flex. The ride is a little rough but I do feel like any sway is completely stopped.
@@GoTogetherGoFar That makes sense. Sometimes working around them tanks takes a bit to get right. From personal experience (driving a tow truck) its really bad to have them brackets too far back, if a spring arm ever slips out, not good.
@@GoTogetherGoFar Could you find a way to raise your propane tanks? My RV has a bracket that the propane tanks sit on which give me about 1.5" of clearance underneath. It's just enough to install the bracket while keeping the propane tanks in their original position. Also, did you check back in with Blue Ox on their official position regarding threadlocker?
Great explanation! However, your "L" brackets are way too far forward, you're not on the springy part of the bars. No wonder you couldn't get them on. It looks like the Track Pro has 'borrowed' a lot of the design of the Equalizer. Friction on a sliding bar prevents sway.
I think you're right. I've mentioned that my ride is a little rougher with the TrackPro than my old SwayPro. I'm sure that is the reason why. That said, I feel like I am so locked in now that I get great sway control! Lol.
That a fat joke!? LOL. Kidding... You're 100% right. I don't know why I didn't think of that. This video has been out there for awhile and You're the first person to call that out. Thank you!
I can. I don't know if one is better, but it feels different. With the SwayPro, I could feel a little more "porpoising" and flex between the truck and trailer. With the TrackPro, it feels more "locked together" but the ride is a little rougher. It is kind of hard to explain but I hope this helps.
Given what you had to do to put the sway bar in position for coupling, I expect uncoupling was pretty straightforward. I just ordered one of these for my trailer and can't find a video showing the uncoupling that uses the tool. I just bought my first "real" trailer (had a pop-up before). It's a Heartland Prowler 212RD and I'm pulling it with my Nissan Pathfinder SV, which is supposed to pull up to 6600 lbs. When I drove it home from Camping World in 20 mph winds, it was like a rodeo, so I'm hoping this will make it much easier.
You're right, it is pretty easy. When I raise the hitch and the truck enough, the spring bars slide right on and lock in. No tool necessary. Hopefully your new hitch works great for you!
Would have liked to see the tool being used and how to unhitch it as well.... is raising the hitch super high without using the tool ok ? and unhitching as well no tool needed ?
I raise my truck/hitch up high enough to use the install pry bar without too much strain. I’m not real crazy about cranking the trailer and hitch up so high that it causes extra stain on the Jack motor and gearing. When I’m removing spring bars in unhitching trailer, I’ll raise them enough to tap them off with a hammer. That’s the way I do it anyway
I do the same thing. Raising it up high enough as to NOT having to use the tool doesn’t look nor feel very safe either. Unhooking it from the trailer, I do the exact same thing by tapping it off, but I just use the side of the weird pry bar it came with. I will say though, that the first time I pried that tension bar onto the lip, it was quite an uneasy feeling with the amount of pressure I needed. Scary
Thanks for the video. I'm still unsure as to what to purchase. I just bought my first trailer (GD Imagine 2800BH) used. It came with a really basic WD hitch and I'm getting lots of movement on the highway. Porposing etc. It's a 2" sized hitch and I have a 2.5" hitch on my F250 so Im using a sleeve. So I have a little bit of movement on the hitch. I'm wanting to buy a WD and sway combo but am unsure of what I should lean towards. Do you have any suggestions?
I like the Blue Ox options. I've used the SwayPro and TrackPro. I think I am happier with the TrackPro. I feel more "locked in" with the TrackPro, if that makes sense. Less proposing too. I have a write up on my website with some other things to consider. Check it out, maybe it helps. gotogethergofar.com/weight-distribution-hitch-with-sway-control/
I'll be in the same boat. I'll be picking up my trailer this weekend (same model as yours) with the same truck as you and I wasn't thrilled about using a sleeve.
My blue ox trackpro L brackets tilt forward under use. They are mounted on an airstream tongue in the closest hole but there is a a gap that allows the bracket to cant forward under use. Is there any way to shim this? Any other solution I should try?
I have a similar issue. For around 7000miles, it was not an issue. Just recently, I have broken 2 of the L-brack bolts. I'm going to try a shim to see that will stop if from tilting.
I just added this to my camper and am having the same problem. I installed the L brackets level and the bolts on the frame torqued to 100ft-lbs and the bracket still tilts forward and moves when I start towing. It definitely doesn’t stay flat. Have you found a solution to this or just kept rolling with it angled?
Here's the one I purchased. (Affiliate Link) www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M0EG1H3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&linkCode=ll1&tag=gtgf-besthitchwithswaycontrol-20&linkId=df2b7afbc2497c856f99940d55998211&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl
Getting ready to buy a camper, and I must say, I am not impressed with this hitch. We used a very old distribution hitch in the past, with chains, and it seems better. I do not think you have the brackets back far enough to take full advantage of the stabilizing properties of the hitch. But nice video.

@@GoTogetherGoFar You can reverse the the plate that holds the L bracket so the L portion is towards the rear. You don't have to move the tanks.
Had enough room I moved the propane tank holder back, had the same issue as you. That gave me the 20-25 inches it called for. Works well!

Should of switch the bolts around so you didn’t have to lift with your knee and you could’ve used your body weight

I can. I don't know if one is better, but it feels different. With the SwayPro, I could feel a little more "porpoising" and flex between the truck and trailer. With the TrackPro, it feels more "locked together" but the ride is a little rougher. It is kind of hard to explain but I hope this helps.

I’m not surprised camping world said you could pull that with a pathfinder lol, go buy a truck
Camping World strikes again!
What size socket it that for the torque wrench? is it 3/4 drive with 1 1/8 socket?
The brackets are on backwards. That’s why the “L” brackets are too far forward. Flip them and you’re good to go! 👍
How far back on the frame were you able to mount? It looks tight!
It is! But man is it tight. I am not affected by wind or semi-trucks like I was before. Much better.

@@rythiel I wish I had the coin to buy either Hensley or ProPride but I can't. I'm currently looking at reviews on the Equalizer brand stuff.
The Equilizer is solid too. Although I haven't used it, I think it is probably as solid as any other brand out there, including Blue Ox.

Much louder. No doubt about it.

I actually never installed a SwayPro. That was installed by my dealer when I purchased the trailer. But I like.the suggestion. Maybe I'll make one.

Yay another RUclips video where the installer has no idea what they’re doing, f’s up the difficult part, and then ends the video.
No thanks, like my blue ox with the chains.
I hear you. I can't complain about my SwayPro either. But, I've been on the highway with my TrackPro a few times now, and I think I like it better.
I agree, it’s to much like the equalizer, which I didn’t like.
