      Te reason for not being absolutely necessary to bring the USB-C for the mouse and keyboard is that: unlike ANY device or cable you could need at an iPhone, THOSE DEVICES ARE USUALLY TO BE CONNECTED TO THAT VERY SAME COMPUTER. Usually you don’t go around anywhere bringing with your computer’s keyboard or mouse to connect them to the computer of somebody else, doesn’t that other computer you get to has already it’s own keyboard and mouse???

      Although I agree, the one thing that would have made the base model Imac perfect as that entry level mac would be 16gbs of ram. It's not even a question anymore or something that needs to be debated. Most manufacturers are doing 16gbs of ram as base even in most entry level windows laptops and computers. This day in age 8gbs really isn't enough unless you're quite literally only using it to browse the web and reply to emails. At which point, if that's the only thing you need it for why spend $1300 usd for such light use? Not to mention... they paired it with their new M3 chips. the damn thing has hardware accelerated ray tracing. so 8gbs makes absolutely zero sense for such a powerful chip.

    I bought a device that increases the height of a Magic Mouse and adds a wifi charging coil to the base. It connects to the mouse through the Lightning port which also helps to locate the mouse in the frame of the "embiggener." It charges the mouse and disconnects the Bluetooth by placing in on any Qi or MagSafe-compatible charging surface. The mouse is more comfortable to hold because it's further away from the desk.

    I’d wager they kept the lightning port accessories because of a surplus of the older designed accessories, especially since they’re color matched. We’ll probably see USB-C accessories for the standard OTS silver keyboard/mouse/trackpad first, possibly alongside a redesign of those products. The Apple TV remote was likely an easy change because the bottom panel the port goes through is removed with just two tiny screws and doesn’t involve a huge redesign of the product. I imagine they want to run through their supply of color matched components with the lightning cutout before swapping over.

The minimum, I guess is 16gb of Ram and 512 Gb ssd… but I usually keep my iMacs (it will be my 5th!) between 7-8 years. You can use external storage, but you can't use external ram. With a macbook external drives can become a portability nightmare, but with a desktop computer external drives are quite convenient. Sure, the computer needs enough storage for the apps you're installing and running; but large items like your Photos library or media projects can be worked with directly from an external drive.

The thing that has disappointed me about the new iMac is the absence of the card reader. I will now have to connect something to the iMac for the sd card. So this beautiful, elegant, sleek design is now going to be spoilt by 'bits and pieces' being attached. I think I am alone with this view because it never gets mentioned when people review the iMac. Let me play devils advocate here for a minute, the convenience of having lightning or USB-C for your Mac accessories is that you can plug your iPhone in using the same cable. The target audience, for the 24” iMac is not tech enthusiast, they’ve made it very clear that they are targeting casual computer users in the home and Office where having a computer that looks nice is more critical than having a super powerful machine. The people that are not huge Teck enthusiast are the same people that don’t normally upgrade their phone every year, more like every 2 to 3 years with their phone plans. So if you’re targeting that group of people, then the majority of them probably are not switching to the USB-C iPhone for another year or three, so continuing to sell a computer that matches the phone they’re more than likely going to have for another year makes sense. not to mention the financial incentive to use lightning which they make a 30% commission on. I would wager that in about a year or so. They will probably update the accessories that you can buy in the store and update accessories that come in the box to USB-C as iPhones with lightning begin to phase out of the US market.

    It is disappointing that the entry level M3 iMacs have a single slow 256 Gb flash module and only have 8 Gb of RAM. The cost of giving these iMacs the 512 Gb SSDs and the 16 Gb of RAM that is universal in PCs in this price range is $400 which is unreasonable given the fact that the component cost of this upgrade is only around $100. Also most outlets only sell base models of Macs and iPhones and so it will not be possible to go into any high street store and come away with a properly configured M1/M2/M3 Mac with a 512 Gb SSD and 16 Gb of RAM.

    I’m not interested at all in a 24 inch iMac. I’m hoping there will be a 27 inch M3 iMac coming out very soon because I can’t go down to 24 inches after using a 27 inch for the last three years. One more picky item is, they really need to get rid of the white bezel.

    I'm psychic:) Tried to update my software a few days ago and found that my "late 2015" I Mac doesn't support anything beyond Monterey. Hmmm. Started thinking about future goals, productivity, mortality...you get the idea. Went to Apple today only to find out they had read my mind (no big surprise, I probably said something out loud that they picked up and marketed off of) and discovered the new 2023 M3 iMac which will be released TOMORROW. So, of course, I bought one today and THEN watched this video. Even though my process is rather backward, I'm glad to know my intuition was on target. What color? Purple. (Honestly, isn't THAT the best reason?)

    I think you are making too big a deal of the lightning port. It has no effect on day to day use to use lightning on these low speed peripherals. They have stock of these parts and will likely switch out to USB-C when it makes sense to do so in the supply chain.

    Lightning accessories is a non-issue. Everyone already has one if not many usbc to lightning cables to charge them. If anything, it gives added life to those old cables. Plus, the iMac doesn't travel in your laptop bag, so this doesn't contribute to dongle life.

  • @ronkemperful
    @ronkemperful 10 месяцев назад +5

    I agree with you that Apple failed by not changing the lightening ports to USB C. However I’m not surprised, for Apple for some time has walked away from supporting its all-in-one line of computers, the profit made by iMacs simply does not support this. More money is to be made with laptops so desktops are rock bottom priorities and I think that includes the Mac Studio for it wasn’t even included in the M3 update, nor any 27” iMac. The danger for Apple not supporting all-in-one’s and its desktops, is that people like me are going to look at less spendy, yet more full featured options in the Windows and Linux computing options. Why buy a Mac?

    Wrong on the Lightning port.  is still manufacturing iPhone 14s and will continue to manufacture Lightning for a few more years to service legacy devices. It’s not like they overnight switched the entire product run of the lower tier iPhone models over to USB-C. Clearly  sees the transition to USB-C as just that, a transition.

    I am still using an iMac from 2011 (21.5"). I have been wanting to upgrade for about a year now but just can't decide if I want to stay with an iMac or go to the Mac Mini and a studio display. If I buy now I have to decide between an iMac 24 M3 or the Mac Mini M2 and with a 27" display. Of course there is about a $1000 diff. with some upgrades and accessories. Either one is going to be a huge upgrade from my current setup. Oh and the only stuff I do other than surf the net and a lot of RUclips is some video editing for my RUclips channel. Can I get some advice???

    After seeing the iMac M3 I am still willing to buy the best 27-inch intel iMac. Better and bigger screen and the performance is quite enough for photo edition. I don't need a 30 seconds action to take 15 since I use Photoshop batches and the old iMac will cost me USD 1299 for the best configuration instead of USD 1604 (plus freight) for a 256Gb SSD and 8Gb ram.
