Sculpting a Giant Octopus out of Recycled Tires & Foam

- I used recycled tires to create an octopus tire sculpture. The sculpture started with welding steel armature. Once the frame was fabricated I used insulation foam for the inner structure. I did a full foam carving using a knife and other power tools. Once the form was complete I sent the octopus out for fiberglassing. I teamed up with Becca Barnet (fellow NBC's 'Making it' contestant) to do custom eyes. She did an amazing job, creating the octopus eyes out of glass spheres with resin painted and backfilled. Once I received the eyes I installed them and then began the tire process. I used all stainless steel reinforcements because this sculpture will be displayed outdoors. What do you guys think?

I live in Seoul, and I distance walk. If there's one thing Koreans love, it's sculptures, and if you walk along the 32K section of the Four Rivers path from Incheon toward Seoul, there's a long part that follows the Ara Canal. At one point along that path, there's a sprawling sculpture garden that contains sculptures ranging from abstract shapes to more concrete-looking animals. Your bison (and, from your other video, your giant octopus) would fit right in. Nice work.
Yeah you should consider adding a section of the clients’ reaction during the unveiling of the piece to them. That’s the only thing missing for me. But it’s really amazing watching you from start to finish ☺️☺️☺️

Its insane how you do your work blows my mind every time you bring something new.
Now I’ve got hints for my old bike tire collection in using tread for shaping/patterns. The finished octopus looks lively and it was structurally made to last, nicely done. I was puzzled at each stage as to how it would look, there was inventive uses I didn’t expect.

Truly beautiful, impressive skill and creativity. Fun fact, I once was part of a team that built a 14ft wide, 12 ft tall steel octopus for Burning Man. This looks like it was more fun to build than that, and I learned a lot from watching you make this.

Fantastic work! Honestly it really inspired me to make something with similar materials first chance I get. My only critique would be... you forgot about the siphons! Octopuses use them to propel their body with jet propulsion, it's one of their many incredibly weird and amazing features!
