In English: Winterreise is written for male voices. And that's the only way it should be performed. Women have their own genre of art songs. And I've never heard that from male singers. That would sound out of place.
The way things work is, once something enters the public domain, it belongs to the public ... although I much prefer a male voice and especially low male voice for Winterreise, I also recognize: my "should" has no power out here. No one owns Winterreise. As a contralto, I wouldn't ... but no one's "shouldn't" has any power over me or any other woman. You didn't have to even listen to it ... sometimes the greatest power we have is not listening, because complaining on RUclips just helps these two artists' algorithm get BIGGER. Sometimes, when men try to control women, women's power gets EVEN BIGGER. Keep that in mind.
Kind of agree that Winterreise is written for a male voice .. I love the interpretations of Schubert, Fischer-Dieskau ... but this lady is wonderful .. I can listen again and again .. why not a lady if she feels the pain of the "Leiermann" and can out it into her voice ?
