Good presentation. I just bought an RO kit. I chose this product because there's a good support system behind it, the components are top notch, and it was convenient. Basically, everything comes with the kit (or the bucket system). I didn't have to search around for components.. This process is not something I am really familiar with, so having the support behind the product is nice. Also, I see these young gentlemen using their knowledge to build a business that fills a need in this industry. I like supporting small businesses. Finally, I think the price for the products is fair.
Thanks for the informative video! Just tapped 10 trees and just got the RB5. Been doing without for 15 years + , can not wait to see how much time it saves!
Thanks for the Shoutout! I bought my starter system from a guy that was making RO water for his Aquarium. Upgraded the membranes to 150 gpd. A couple tips 1) get a rain barrel brass spigot for the bottom of your sap bucket, I also found a water hose adapter to attach to my 1/4 inch RO line. I send the concentrate back into the batch, that way I have no worries of the barrel going dry overnight. The spigot also add the pressure of the sap to push through the line. 2) put the bucket on the floor. This will help with pressure as the sap will not have to get “pulled” uphill. 3) keep lids on the barrels, I once found a mouse in my permeate water. I was really glad it was not the concentrate. Great stuff, I am really glad to hear some reviews on this RO Bucket. Happy Sugaring!
I was helping a neighbor set a new tank and pump for his solar driven system out on a remote pasture. it was a big tank and we were drinking from the old tank. Found a couple dead mice in the water when we were done. I don't know how they were able to climb a five foot stainless wall, Oh I bet he had a hose going in the top and they climbed the hose. Anyway, we couldn't do anything but laugh about it,... And have a couple beers. this year a pretty big squirrel drowned in one of my sap buckets, so this year's label will be Red Squirrel Run. Naw, I tossed that bucket load.
Just bought the RO Bucket.. so damned excited!! Only took a little while to get it flowing fairly even and....BAM!! Don't regret this purchase at all !!
Yes, since making this video I’ve done more research and seen other people do just that, you can concentrate even further by running your concentrate line back into your sap bucket.
Be it known that you CAN run black walnut sap through one of these. If you think ROing 1.8% maple sap to 5% helps, think what it does if you start with 1.2ish% black walnut sap. Tried it recently after being afraid of pectin problems. Pectin does NOT come out of solution till you cook the sap. Reply
Not normally, with the size of our cans we use, there just isn’t enough volume to run over night. I do however run it for several hours. I have one of the little plug in timers I use to be able to walk away from it and not worry about it running dry
set mine up this week. self built large enough to loan out so neighbors can do theirs in a day and return it. probably charge them a replacement filter. 500 g/day.
@@ChanyataFarm After standing on the shoulders of a couple dozen RUclipsrs showing their work-ups, I went straight to a 500g/day membrane. I get about a liter per minute of concentrate and the same of pure water doing a 50/50 at 65psi. Lemee see, that is 2liters together or 32gallons of sap per hour.yielding 16g each way. lots of fun
Hey Chantyata, do you flush and run the preservative between uses? If so, do you leave the preservative mixture in the system or flush it out? The RO bucket guys didn't answer that.
I flush with clean permeate water after every use. You can download the users manual through the RO bucket website, and it has detailed instructions for both the periodic and end of season clean/flushing maintenances needed to keep your bucket running properly. I consult it often.
Does running at a much higher pressure and thus getting more than 50% permeate result in sugar loss then? I just figured you’d be getting higher brix in the reduced sap.
I honestly don’t know the answer to that, I just followed the manufacturer instructions. I have seen people that put the concentrate back into the sap bucket to run it through the RO again and get the sugar content higher
@@ChanyataFarm I purchased my RO 7 or 8 years back from Carl. I am either lazy or too old (78) to spend nights over a sap pan. Don't tell anyone but this year I ran 140 lbs pressure at 7.5 gallons per hour to make 89% to 11% so my boil time was only a couple of hours. Don't tell Carl

Game changer
Thanks for the review! I’m looking at buying the RO10 bucket myself!
The RO was definitely one of the 2 biggest game changers we have added to our syrup making

Thanks for the tips! I think my season is just about wrapping up, I learned a lot this year and can’t wait to take some new ideas into next season!

Is this good removing chemicals?
Great demonstration!
This is a great video. So much much clarity and clear instruction. This is right where I'm at. Thanks brocephus.
This was a serious game changer for us last season
Another great learning video . Thanks
I like your transparency with price and honest use!
Very helpful video, thanks! Curious if there would be any benefit to running the concentrate through the RO Bucket a second time?

Good info!
How many times can you run the sap through the RO? My sap out of the tree is around 65 to 1 ration unfortunately
Up to about 8% sugar
Awesome! I’m thinking about getting a RO. Do you let it run throughout the night?
