- I’d like to share with you HOW TO SET UP and USE Japan’s SUICA CARD on iPhone WITH and WITHOUT a CARD NUMBER. Using some sort of Transportation IC card is kinda standard in Japan, especially in cities like Tokyo, Osaka… since it helps us save time and money at the same time. If you have a smartphone, consider set up and use the Suica card on your phone. I’ll show you 2 ways, STEP BY STEP how to GET and USE the Suica card on your phone in this video. The first way is via APPLE PAY (APPLE WALLET). And the second way is via SUICA FINANCE App.
Recently, according to JR, due to the chip shortage, they’ve stopped selling some of the cards like Suica, Pasmo (unless you stay in Japan and buy the monthly commuter pass, you still can buy it).
If you travel to Japan and prefer a physical card, you can consider the Welcome Suica card or the Pasmo Passport card, which are the cards created for visitors to Japan. But please be noted that these cards are non-refundable and only valid for 28 days.

I just manage to try registering with the option with SUICA card number.
Part of the info needed is postal code but i am a tourist without local Japan postal code?
(I tried my home country postal code it didnt work though)

Thank you so much!🙏 The Welcome Suica and Pasmo Passport are only valid for 28 days and are not available in Apple Wallet. if you add an IC card to Apple Wallet, you don't need one of those cards anymore. you only need one IC card (any kind) per person.

Very helpful video! Hey regarding the full digital number you need to download the app, it comes up easily as it recognises the Suica card on your phone. The full number is in the information .
Thank you. It was helpful. I just realised the value of iPhone in overseas travel. Android phones sold outside Japan are not compatible with Suica or PASMO. I had some problem completing my field for my first name, which has 2 words, but the field only accept 1 word.

Thank you so much for watching!🙏 your baby does not need to pay for tickets. you and your husband need to have one IC card per person, separately. the ic card needs to have one departure and one arrival station to calculate the ticket price for one person.

Thank you so much!🙏 Technically you can use either of those cards. I used both Visa and Master and they worked well (but mine were issued in Japan). it depends on how the security is set up in each country so you have to try to see which works for you.
Excellent vid! I have an existing physical Suica (not the Welcome Suica) that I have used on 3-4 previous trips over the past several years that I recharge every time I enter Japan. After watching your vid, however, I will try to setup a Suica on my iPhone Apple Wallet for an upcoming March trip to Japan. I think I will use a bank debit/ATM card instead of a credit card to avoid possible interest while I'm overseas. Thanks

I just added a Suica card and I used an Australian visa debit card. I am still in Australia, so hopefully I can top it up when I am in Japan.
For me I have to add Apple Pay to my credit card first. I did that for my husband and myself for 2 separate bank app. It works after that.

Your video was great! Very informative! I just got back from Japan. I go every summer. I only use paper tickets for the trains when I’m there. I don’t like the idea that the money I put on the card or app expires and that I can’t get a refund. If I could save the money on my app until I go back in a year I would totally use it. hi, as far as I know, the remained balance on your digital suica wallet won't be able to be transferred to another wallet. it can only be refunded/transferred to a bank account of yours, which has to be in Japan. therefore, it's best to use all the money on your digital suica wallet before you leave Japan. 2) I don't get any additional processing fee. but it may be different by bank. so maybe you have to try it out once for your case.
3) yes you can get a welcome suica card for kids 6-11yrs at Narita Airport.

Thank you so much for watching!🙏 your digital Suica card does not expire in 28 days like the physical Welcome Suica card. the digital Suica card is at least the same with the normal physical Suica card, which is valid for 10 years since your last use of the card. if you have it all ready in your Apple wallet, you can use it the minute you land in Japan :)

yes, all the cards are valid across Japan, including the Suica card.

Does the Suica apple wallet work on the Narita express or will you still need to get a ticket ?
hi, a Suica card or any other IC cards can only pay for a passenger ticket (or basic fare) at the ticket gates. you still need to get a separate ticket for express trains or bullet trains. you can use the Suica card to pay for those extra tickets at vending machines or counters.
If you register the Suica in apple wallet, would you able to reload the card by cash at the train station fare machine?

If 3 of us are travelling can we use one digital suica? For example, while riding the train can one digital spica be scanned/swiped 3 times consecutively?
you need one card per adult or kid (6-12yrs). each will need to scan their own card.
do you need a specific type of credit card to load the suica i heard it doesn't accept Visa only mastercard & others
I signed in to mention this exact point - yes, you are correct, you can not use Visa cards with the digital Suica card. You must pay with either AMEX or MasterCard. Other cards may also work, but, the Visa network is NOT supported. Sadly, Visa is the default for many debit cards for many banks, so keep this point in mind!
I heard the Suica card is used for shopping pretty much anywhere in Tokyo. Is that true?

i had a physical card purchased a few months ago from a machine at a regular tube station (i guess is not the passport one) with a few thousand that i never used, do it balance expire? im coming back in october for the festival season i want to know if ill be able to use it again.thanks
what's the card called? (the name/brand) a normal ic card (not the ones for visitors) is valid for 10 years since your last use of the card so the balance does not expire in that period.
