  • This is the original video by the founder of www.DNA-Testing.... Richard used DNA testing to learn the surname of his biological father. Later, he used a DNA sibling test to determine which of five brothers had been his father. Thanks to newer, more powerful DNA tests, he now knows that the first test identified the wrong man. His newer video is called Finding Family Book Trailer HD.

This is my video. Newer testing done just a few months ago proved that one of the other brothers was my birth father. Do NOT use the old-technology "sibling" or "kinship" test that I used in 2007. It may lead you to the wrong answer.

So, if your birth father was like the majority of people out there and they just never bothered to do any DNA testing of themselves at all..then you would be at a dead end. A lot of birth fathers out there have no idea they have kids out there so why would they start looking for these phantom " missing kids " out there? Most people are just not curious enough to get themselves tested. Sad, but true. Glad it worked out for you though

+Felicity Self it is NOT necessary for the birth father to be tested. My birth father had been dead for decades when I discovered his identity through DNA testing. First, a Y-DNA test identified his probable surname. Then a test of his children proved they were half siblings to me.

So markers mean you can match more people? Does it work if someone matches years down the road they can still contact you if you keep your email update?

Jen, I recommend 37 markers for a Y-DNA test. Doing 67 is unlikely to uncover more matches. It can just provide more resolution if you get too many close matches. More men are testing every week and you will continue to get new matches as the database grows in size.
