Before I read the comments, the only thing I could think the whole time was Tone: Best thing I’ve heard in a while Playing: Clean, and shows your hard work and dedication. Well done.
I decided today to make this my new practice piece as a coordination exercise and personal goal. As soon as I saw the paint missing from the guitar I knew I was in for something. You basically did what I wanted to do, aged your guitar through constant practice to achieve this clean playing. I’ve been doing this for 21 years but I always try to learn new things and push my playing, this was hands down inspirational for anyone at any level. Thank you brother and God bless
I would’ve given anything to have this tablature when I was in high school!! I spent an entire year working this out by ear with a Cassette tape I recorded from a VHS 😂
I'm 60 and feel the same way except all I had was vinyl records, didn't know how EVH played Eruption till I saw them live in 79, there was no VHS or tabs. I knew something was off after a year of trying to play the end of Eruption, tried all kinds of hammering and pull offs and open strings and two string sequences but couldn't get that even flow. He didn't even hit the stage, was standing off to the side of the stage waiting to come out and I saw his right hand on the neck and it was like VOILA, I couldn't hear it because he was just warming up but knew instantly what he was doing, couldn't wait to get home and pick up my guitar and I ended up tapping all night till the sun came up. I miss the magic of those days when everything wasn't revealed on you tube, no mystique anymore.
while watching Ralph Macchio's fingers on VHS for clues... oops. Lol. But I was surprised on the E major triad on the 9th position (45 sec mark above) instead of returning to the 4th position... ditto the other octave jumps, makes sense... but Ralph ...
The coolest thing, and when you know that you are listening to a MASTER guitarrist, is that he plays this so relaxed, that makes it look easy! Great work sir!
I love that I've just discovered that RUclips let's me slow videos down. I'm learning all kinds of my dream solos now thanks to videos like this. Thank u and very well done
@@JanneKarhunenI agree that would be a nice feature but you may have it already if you check your sound card settings/control panel some sound drivers have this capability(warning: any pitch shifting method will degrade the sound quality just as altering the speed does and more so a combination of the two will drastically reduce said audio although some algorithms do sound better than others). If you want just the audio with better quality you could strip the audio file and process the tracks “offline” in CuBase or WaveLab or similar software that will output a new audio file in the desired pitch/speed. Using a good algorithm such as MPEX will take much longer to process but will sound much better than real-time processing.
Fantastic! Nice to hear it done without so much distortion as well, and a soft sound, you really have to be able to play well to do that. No faking! 🙂 Plus a lot of the other covers get the part from 0:36 - 0:40 wrong, which is strange, so I'm glad to hear someone get that right. What the hell was that last bit? Fantastic! 🙂
I watched two of your videos and had to keep checking the gear ⚙️ icon on my screen 📺 to make certain I wasn’t on 1.5X Speed. WTH, Man? Some guys simply got the Magic Hands! 🙌🏽
This is an excellent performance. I'm still kind of puzzled that the movie decided to use this kind of classical, chamber music, polite sounding piece for the performance of the Devil. I mean Vai has played way more terrifying and meaner sounding things in his career.
excellent question. it's because the artist that this piece is from - niccolo paganini - was famous for "selling his soul" in exchange for his virtuoso violinist skills.
Best version of this I've seen on YT. Great pacing, just the right amount of distortion, and great finish on that final note. Other covers of this use too much distortion, and try to play it too fast.
The Creamsicle Charvel is sick... let's start there. He starts out by playing to intro to Texas Flood by Stevie Ray Vaughan. The thing that makes that great is that it outlines the chord changes of the blues. He tried to phrase and leave space in there. The biggest mistake people make is they forget about the lyrical structure of the blues and the chord changes. Really listen to what Stevie Ray Vaughan plays especially on slow blues and see how it relates to the lyrical AAB structure and the chord changes. He didn't play pentatonic scales or blues scales...he played THE BLUES.
And that why the original is beter. This is way to clean it's notes of a sheet. I cannckearly hear some palm muting and more ow look at what I can do on the original. This is by far the cleanest cover I heard to btw
Frickin' sweet job! I was about 14 when this movie came out. I was originally going to play bass, but after hearing the trick bag, I asked for a guitar on my next birthday. I practiced this piece of music all the time, however, I never could play it at the correct tempo, as you did. Maybe I should of stuck with my original plans of playing the bass... every band was looking for one in Chicagoland at the time, and I could of had my choice of rock acts to join. Oh well, my music career didn't go anywhere special, but playing guitar live, at rehearsal, or even songwriting, was worth slinging the six-string. Thanks for posting and take care! 🤙🎸🤖
Thanks for the comment! I actually started as a bass player, but I secretly practiced playing my brothers guitar while he was not around.. 😅 Yes, I bet this film has inspired many guitar players to pick up the instrument. For me Back to the Future was that movie! That opening scene where Marty sets up that enormous rig at Doc's place, The Pinheads audition and Johnny B. Goode! What a great movie!🤩
First off. Wow your playing is fantastic. Secondly Thank you so much for posting the transcription. This piece of music is definitely above my pay grade but I did 12 screenshots of the notation and just taking it one page at a time.
Aside from me, who also wishes to be able to complete this masterpiece even for playing it at a slower pace? Lol. This looks good for everyday guitar warm-up exercise and stretching.
Thats some of the cleanest plays i've ever seen of this
It's the cleanest I've ever seen
100%
He didn’t even miss a single note. I’ve been practicing this for over a decade and still can’t go at full speed with it. 😒
Watch the blindfolded cover of this
Watch Mateus Mancuso playing this without pick... Just in fingerstyle
It's just me or did he play it cleaner than the original ?
Yep he did it. Just amazing.
That there was some clean paying man!
Just you
Before I read the comments, the only thing I could think the whole time was

The hybrid picking and stacking of the octave licks is amazing. Never heard this so clean before
Check out Matteo Mancuso's version.
Oh man Matteo covered this? Now this I have to see@@gep2771
@@gep2771 Damn, that was insane

I mean that was buttery smooth. So smooth in fact, that the paint is no longer attached to the guitar in places 😂
So clean it even killed 0.1% of bacteria
Outstanding! The best cover of it by a mile! Perfect playing!

Thanks! Yes it's a great feature. I use it for transcriptions and practice! I wish they would add a pitch shifter for us musicians! 👍

Literally got misty eyed watching and hearing this beauty. Unbelievable technique. Looks like you’re hybrid picking some of those lines. Genius
I’d give my left bollock to be able to play that! Bravo sir.

This is cleanest cover I've ever seem of this. The fact that you didn't use any distortion is just crazy.
Amazing. The hybrid picking is most likely what the real life Eugene would have implemented. Take THAT, Butler!
That was cool! Makes me want to try learn it. Love the sneaky sweep at the end!
That was so tight
That's really impressive. Great job!
This video needs more views, Imo, this is maybe the cleanest version of original.... Nice
La difficoltà sta nel mantenere la pulizia e la definizione delle singole note quando di utilizza un suono non distorto come questo. Bravissimo.
Beautiful playing on a beautiful guitar. Love the look with the paint that scraped off.
Very well done! The best rendition of this piece on the internet, hands down
Superb! No tricks here and can’t thank you enough for including the in-video tab which does save us a lot of time. I subscribed
Yes tricks here, the original is alternate picked, no sweeping or hybrid picking
Awesomeness! Well done dude- and thanks for resolving that last note properly... lol. Great job.
This is an excellent performance.

Got Steve Vai over here.. This is one of, if not the best cover I've seen of this piece. I play it slightly different, but nowhere near this fluid!
One of the best I’ve ever seen. REALLY good.
Thank you!
Amazing! One of the best I’ve seen!
Undoubtedly a lot of hours of practice put into this. Sounds excellent, man!! I'm feeling inspired!
