A couple of years ago around Christmas I got a text from an unknown number asking how I enjoyed a date and if I would like to meet again. After explaining that I was not the intended recipient, the texter (Dennis) wished me a Merry Christmas and asked dating advice. Apparently the intended recipient had given him the wrong number. He was a really nice man in his 60s, and very respectful too. Now, I make sure to text him around holidays.

I had something similar, but I doubt that Sabine gave him the wrong number in purpose, because I had several chats with her insurance, once even a job offer - I hope they have found each other...
A young girl texted me at 3am at a Sunday night /morning, and asked me to pick her up from a (pretty famous) fast food restaurant nearby. She thought I was her older sister, who got a new number a few days ago.
She misspelled a lot in her text ... I guess she was pretty drunk. Her friends left without her, she lost her wallet and her phone was about to die. Since it wasn't that far away, I picked her up and drove her home. She was more than surprised, when I showed up ... but thankfull and ashamed, when she realized that she was texting with me the whole time. 😂
I told her more than once, that she got the number wrong, but she thought her sister was just trying to prank her.

I worked the night shift and was really tired I had texted my stepson, sent him some funny memes for about a month. He would comment you’re funny we should meet up. I asked him when he was going to come back home and visit maybe we could catch up. He said he was already back home. Apparently I switched 2 numbers around when I put it in my phone. The guy was out of town and just got back. He said I sent funny stuff and made his day. He didn’t want the conversation to stop so he kept texting. Come to find out I worked in the town he lived in and he worked in the town I lived in. So of course we had to meet up for breakfast or coffee, just to put a face to the funny texts. Yah, I’ve been with him 11yrs now, we still send funny stuff to each other every day.

I once started getting messages from a woman convinced I was her son. When I tried to explain that I was not her son, and she had a wrong number, she took this to mean her son was disowning her. She sent tons of upset messages, calling me ungrateful and how dare I be so cruel to her, etc., etc. Told her I didn't know how else to help her, but I am a woman and she is absolutely not my mom.
The next day, I got a horrified apology text from her. She had surgery, and someone let her have her phone while still loopy on the drugs. The drugs must have been really good, cuz she tried to enter her son's number manually instead of using her contacts, and she ended up texting me instead.
Haha now two families have a funny story. 😂
Had a guy message me one time, he stated that we had previously dated the year before and he was really sorry for how things ended. Said he hoped that we could meet for coffee and catch up. Had to explain to him he had the wrong person. That my (now ex) husband of 20 years was sitting next to me and found it hilarious. He kept messaging me saying he knew I was a b*tch and didn't need to lie to him. He just wanted to apologize, but now I could "get bent". Looks like whoever his ex was dodged the proverbial bullet when he broke up with her.

Very similar thing happened to me. The guy wouldn't believe me when I told him I wasn't the woman he was trying to contact and no matter what I said or tried to explain he refused to believe me. It was funny but also annoying lol

Not a text, but years ago I got a call from some older woman. Me being me I just assumed she had called to talk to my mother, was probably one of her many friends, so I assumed that was the reason why she was so friendly and was asking so much about my life. Eventually I said to her 'have you called to speak to Mum? Who is it by the way as I cant recognise the voice' she said 'its your grandmother silly' to which I replied 'well, my grandmother has been dead for 15 years so unless you are communicating from the other side, then I'm going to guess its the wrong number' We both had a good laugh and she was lovely
Awwe there was a story in the news about a Gma txting her grandson reminding him about Thanksgiving dinner sent it to a wrong number... The kid ended up texting her back anyways and 4 yes later they are still meeting up for dinner...
My buddy was part of someone's holiday family group text that he was somehow accidentally added to. For two years he tried to tell them he was a stranger and then just started saying he would bring certain dishes and pretended to be in on it, since they never removed him from the group chat 😂

I got one the other day
Some guy kept texting pictures of the work schedule. After a while I put together he was the manager of a local gas station and was failing at sending them to an employee. I let him know MULTIPLE TIMES I was not the employee he was looking for, but he kept sending me the weekly schedule all through October, November, and December 🤷🏼♀️
Then I got a Christmas party invite at the Hilton in the city. Kind of bougie for a gas station office party. Dinner was included and I could bring a +1. I heckled him about not splurging for an open bar for all of us overworked gas station employees. I never got a response after that 😂
I seriously considered showing up with a gift for the white elephant, but my husband said I was being weird.
I would have been all for going to that party.
I once got a text from what turned out to be an 11 yr old boy who had finally gotten up the nerve to ask his crush to be his girlfriend.
Once I figured out that my creepy neighbor did not indeed have my cell number, I gave him a few pointers. Last I heard, all went well

Over the past 2 months I've been getting phone calls and voicemails from Michigan's county jail to pick up paperwork, for a Mr. Sanderson. I always call right back informing them whoever gave out this number is falsifying their contact information because I've had this number for over 10 yrs.
Me: receives text from unknown number “Are you coming to dinner?”
Me: afraid I’ve forgotten a commitment text back “Sorry, don’t recognize number - who is this?”
Message: “It’s your mother!! I am on my work phone!!! Are you coming to dinner?”
Me: “Well, considering my mother passed away 10 years ago, I have to say no, I have no plans of joining her tonight.”
Message: OMG sorry wrong number.
Me: No worries, best laugh I’ve had in days.

I had a company call me for 3 whole years.."Karen, overtime" is what they would say. I tried calling and telling them they had the wrong number, and Im not "Karen". My husband even left a greeting saying "This is NOT Karen's number"..finally stopped calling after 6 months.
I also get calls from companies, but I didn't pick them up anymore, tired already hahaha. Used to pick up the call this one time and they ask "Are you (my name)?" And since it's a new number that I didn't give to anybody, I was quiet shock. So I ask who they are and what they want, and whether I know them or not, then they didn't say anything and hung up.

Some guy had my number before and I get almost daily ads about edibles and weight loss products, updates about his college campus (it's America so it's frequently updates from their security chief), delivery notifications and more. Poor guy got a LOT of spam and now I have to block new numbers every day
When I got my new number, a stranger sent me a picture. The picture showed a man wearing a santa hat, apart from that he was completely naked

When I was in the military I tried to call my sister who was back home. I miss dialed the number and left a voicemail saying it was me her brother and I hope to catch her soon. I got a call back about 10 minutes later from that number and it was the boyfriend of whoever I called. He would not stop grilling me about how I knew his girlfriend even though I repeatedly told him I miss dialed... he would call me on and off for two weeks asking if I seen his girlfriend or if she was was with me.

I use trac phone and every few years upgrade to a new one, they just recycle numbers and I'm always getting weird calls and messages for the first few months. I been getting nudes sent to me on my new phone, the same people a couple I assume , no messages just pics. I been sending pics of my tools (wrenches, screw drivers etc) back to them. I wonder how long this will continue for.
Ha ha ha. Sorry you get that stress but great idea on the return photo lol. If I get any then they'll get pictures of steam irons and knitting needles with half knitted stuff. Take care.

Covid has had me locked up so long that when I want to have a fun "date night out" with a nice and funny girl, I order some pizza, make some strong margaritas, put Charlotte on continuous play and pretend we're on a date and roasting stupid people. Don't judge me.

When I worked graveyard shift and had my cell with me at work, there was one occasion some stranger kept texting me demanding to know if I'd seem some specific woman. I told them they had the wrong number and I don't know who they are talking about but they kept hounding me for info begging me to just tell them if I knew where she really was. I told them if someone is missing they should call the cops but I seriously have no idea who they are or who she is. It went on forever until I had to start ignoring them but they sounded so desperate it was creepy.
When living in Kenya with my family I once got a text in Swahili telling me their small family had just arrived at the airport, their ETA and that their little one was so excited to meet/see me. Got my dad's help translating (who spoke the language fluently and I didn't) and then we texted the number back so they could let the real host/friend/family member know. Low-key made my evening though, pretty cute :)
Weirdest text I've ever gotten:
A complete stranger asked me 'how much I want him to pay me, to kick him in the balls'.
I continuously get phone calls from a jail for whoever used to have my phone number like they call me every day and im not accepting that collect charge. I figured maybe they would understand and stop calling eventually but it's been a year and a 1/2 and they call every dam day
Trace the jail number and send them an email stating that the number has changed and to stop calling for whomever they were searching for. They have records of what calls were made to whom I think.

I once tried to call my dad as a kid while lost in the woods from a stranger's phone who happened to pass by and got the first number mixed up. Some random dude answered but I didn't realize it and kept on rambling about how lost I was. It took me a while to realize I wasn't talking to my dad. I apologized to the stranger and just headed towards the sound of a freeway. I got back home eventually.

A while back I got a text that my dad agreed to give me the loan I asked for. My dad had been dead for a couple of years at the time.
I got a call once and when I picked up it was a lady literally screaming and cursing at me in some other language. I didn't understand a word but cursing is universal, lol. Then when she finally stopped long enough for me to speak I just told her she had the wrong number. Dead silence, then she hung up. I don't envy whoever she was trying to call!
I've had my current phone number for more than a year. This entire time I have been receiving calls and texts for someone named Taya. Eye dr and dental appointment reminders, reminders to pick up visitors from the airport, really personal voice-mails from loved ones and group chats that include her own mother. She apparently doesn't care enough to give her own mom her new number. It's seriously annoying.
When I changed my number I kept getting calls and kept getting added to groups on WhatsApp. If I left the groups someone would message me demanding to know why I left. After explaining I'm not who they think I am they would start asking for my name and where I'm from. I had to block so many numbers and to this day I still get texts, mostly from men who say things like "hello princess, would you like to be friends" and "I miss you"
Our university had a phone book that included every students address, phone number, and major. We used it to prank call a few people, but the best one somehow ended in us driving 10 minutes down the road and leaving a single strawberry in a cactus shaped shot glass on his doorstep. We drove around the block to see his reaction, he was very confused 🤣

The weirdest thing for me was noticing I missed a call from a random number. I didn't call them back because I didn't feel like it. Then a few hours later that same day the same number called and I watched my phone ring and let it go to voicemail (because who wants to talk to some random person on the phone). Then they call again and I watched it ring again. But then figured if they called three times in one day over the course of a few hours it's probably someone I know. So I immediately called back and got, "We're sorry. The number you dialed has been disconnected or is no longer in service." 😧 But it called me 3 times!!

Last summer we started a new group text with my husband's family. Somehow we got one of his brothers-in-law in as a number that was one digit different, but the guy had the same first name. Took us a while to get straightened out, but he was pretty patient with us. Sorry, Stranger Bob!
I got a text from some guy's bookie when I got a new phone number. That same phone number also got me calls from creditors and the county courthouse, all for that guy. I was glad when I got a different number.
I got a call from some woman's parole officer. I had my number for over 6 years at that point, so he was fairly annoyed that the person that was supposed to check in with him gave a fake number.

I kept getting these texts from a kid's teacher thinking I was the kid's mom. Even after I told her that she had the wrong number. Every few days there'd be another one. It stopped eventually when I finally, FINALLY, got her to understand that she had the wrong number.

I replied, I'm sorry you have the wrong number," "Very funny Charlie, bring the vest over by 9pm or your ass is grass!" I've had my phone number for three years, I still get calls from Daisy's lawyer, and texts from her friend/family, pictures of children during every holiday. I feel like I am part of the family now😂
I kept getting texts that my car was ready or telling me how much the estimate was to have a car fixed. I actually looked up the number and it was indeed a local auto repair shop . Someone transposed numbers and I was getting someone else's text. I think they were glad I called them to correct the info .
I kept getting voice messages from a doctors office giving out private health info for some guy (test results and such). I ended up having to call them to let them know they had the wrong number. At least it was someone I didn't know or it could have been embarrassing to face them later. lol

I had an old lady who kept calling me relentlessly (I think my number was one off her sons). I actually finally got her name and saved her under “LOIS WRONG NUMBER” and every time she’d call, I’d answer, “sorry lois. Try again” and hang up
My Hubby's bestfriend was stabbed & killed 3yrs ago & we still get phone calls for him

I think my phone number used to belong to a business. I usually get weird texts from people asking me about square footage of carpet.
Had someone blow up my phone with calls and texts at 1:30am a few years ago and then continuously argued with me when I told them they had the wrong number, and kept texting til I blocked them.

I was the weird text once. I thought I was texting my brother and he neglected to mention he got his number changed. So I'm messaging who I think is him about my daughter not feeling good. And the person messaged me back "Wrong number, but I hope your daughter feels better soon." Still nice of them.
Small World Dept: I got a new phone number a few years ago, and I was getting the requisite endless calls from collection agencies for the guy who'd had the number before me. The weird thing was that these collection agents kept asking for me. I would also get familiar texts from ... ahem ... "ladies" who had seen my "profile" (which I do not have). For a while I thought I was in some kind of Twilight Zone episode (I guess you would say Black Mirror now). But it wasn't anything so dramatic, the guy who lost his phone number because he couldn't pay his phone bill -- because he was spending all his money on hookers -- simply had the same first name as me.

My sister several years ago got a near 3 am call. The creep convinced her that he was in her living room. She broke through her bedroom window, which was fortunately a ground floor apartment. Our parents lived very near her, and they called 911. The really scary part was she left her young son in the other bedroom.

@@thinair7671 it is a room off the back of your house usually where you come in and leave your shoes and coats. sometimes your washing machine might be back there.
It could be in the front of the house too I guess. The idea is that it is where,if is muddy, outside you take off the wet /dirty/muddy clothes before you come into the house proper.
yeah. doesn't have to be in the back, not sure why I said that. Maybe because that where it was in my house growing up.
Years ago, someone kept calling me on my landline in the middle of the night. He would always get angry with me and demand to know why I called him, while I desperately tried to explain that HE had called me, and that he should stop. Gave me severe phone anxiety, it was terrifying.

I received a call at 3am, and someone started singing and playing the guitar... very nice! But I never found out who "ordered" that 🤔
I once texted my daughter and asked her to call me and ten seconds later the phone rang. I said "that was fast" and a man said "who is this." Totally caught me off guard. I apologized and he was pretty rude to me. After I hung up I looked in my address book and read my note that my daughter had given her old phone to my granddaughter. Well, it obviously wasn't my thirteen year old granddaughter either. Weird.

I did too one time! I let him know I wasn't who he was trying to get a hold of, then he asked if I would just come over instead. HAHA! He said he was too tired to try to track down who he was actually looking for. I told him that if he was that tired that he wouldn't be much fun for me to play around with either. There was clearly some girl who used to use my number when she gave guys a fake number. I didn't recognize her name so she obviously just picked my number randomly and just always used it.
I'd get booty call type texts from random guys at 3am claiming they'd met me earlier that night or a few days ago, etc. at some club or bar. One actually said something like:
This is Gus. Don't you remember me? My friend Frank threw up on your shoes!
I mean, really? I would have given them a fake number, too!!!🤣
Most of the time I'd just ignore the texts and they'd stop, sometimes with a "Bitch you wasn't that hot anyway!" Yeah, obviously the feeling was mutual seeing as she gave you the wrong number, dude! 🙄
A few times my SO had to send them his pic with a "This is NOT the girl you met last night!!!" text just to get them to stop.
Thankfully she must have started giving out a different fake number because the weird texts eventually stopped entirely. Although it was annoying, I admit I did not blame her for the fake number thing. Some of those guys were pretty gross!!!
Well, this predates text messages by quite a bit, but on Friday night at 1:00am - before caller ID was even around - I received a call at home while alone. The guy on the other end asked if he could speak with Tammy. I told him he had the wrong number and he asked if I was sure. After assuring I was not Tammy, he paused, and came back with his “radio” voice (smooth, deeper, trying to sound like Barry White), and asked me for my name. I told him my first name and then began to start a conversation, asking me what was doing, what I looked like, etc. While trying not to laugh hysterically, I quickly and as subtlety as I could imagine let him Know I wasn’t interested.

This stiff happened to me - it turned out it is pretty easy to spoof a number & someone was spoofing my number to bother others & it was bad - my house got egged & it did more damage than you would expect- I had to file a police report but nothing came of that of course.

I once got a text with an audiofile attached to it that congratulated me with the third birthday of my daughter Kiki. the audiofile was a bunch of people singing happy birthday. I was 16 at the time and needless to say I did not have a 3 year old daughter names Kiki.
I had a person from my hometown contact me in Facebook alleging to be a cousin. After I explained that we are not related (not even by marriage), she insisted that she is my cousin and proceeded to mention all the members of her family hoping that I would recognize them. It didn't work.
i've had my number for 3 years. last year i started getting group texts from people i never met and they only spoke spanish. i tried telling them they had the wrong number but they wouldn't listen. that's what happens when you get a "free" government phone through foodstamps because you can't afford any payment plans.

This is so funny, my name is Michelle and a lady kept calling me thinking I was her niece named Michelle even after 6 months of telling her I was not her niece she kept calling. Finally she realized her mistake.
The most bizarre phone calls I used to get were collect calls from prison, and the names of the inmates were always different. I never accepted any of the calls except one. I got really fed up with the collect calls every night so I finally accepted just to ask who the hell they were and how they got my number. Ends up an x boyfriend ended up there and before he got transferred to a different prison he gave multiple people my number. But that's not the only thing he told someone he gave one guy my address. I had a penpal for a while lol I never wrote him back but I got a letter every other week for a long while then it just stopped.
I got a weird text in the middle of the night once. Some drunk girl. She was vague enough at first that I thought oh this is someone I met at my law school reunion christmas party and forgot about. It wasn't. She started calling me by the wrong name and sharing gossip about people I'd never heard of, apparently thought I was one of her friend group, I tried to let her know it was the wrong number and that I was not the girl she thought I was, but she was too drunk to pick up on it and was convinced I was joking around. Things got pretty heavy after that when she started asking for advice about how to tell her boyfriend she was pregnant. I did my best to help her out and listen to her troubles because she seemed really distressed and stuff. She finally texted herself to sleep about an hour later. The next day, she contacted me again sober to apologize for the previous night and i was just like it's nbd dont worry about it. I think about her sometimes. I hope everything worked out for her.
