@@hotbeefo I was climbing in the 60's and 70's (I'm 72 now) My hardest lead was Christmas Curry at Tremadoc after Christmas dinner in the Padarn Hotel Llanberis and a little bit of wine with a dear friend who is no longer with us. We topped out just as the sun was going down and it was bloody freezing, needless to say we were the only ones on the cliff haha. We didn't take ourselves too seriously in those days!
Yer definitely, I think it probably occurred to him during those first falls that Louis didn't have enough experience with trad to know how much run out he had. Especially when he clicked into his bouldering mindset.
Fucking hell dude. That was petrifying just to watch. Cannot believe the bravery on show here, particularly after the upsidedown fall. That was insane. Mad respect.
hands down one of the best short climbing videos out there. instant classic. nail biter. film maker captured the intensity and emotion brilliantly. well done all of you!
How am I only seeing this now?! Crazy how Louis went from being very nervous on a well-protected E1 to taking whips on such a notorious classic...awesome effort, loved the video :)
This series has been so good. Love how you’ve both been scared and out of your comfort zones and how the other one has been able to teach you through the process. Hope you guys make more of these
Nice one Louis! An excellent companion video to the one you guys did indoors on dynamic boulder moves. Really respect the openness and honesty of both these amazing climbers as they acknowledge their own limitations and fears when stepping out of their comfort zones. No big egos here, which is not always the case with climbing clips on RUclips. Respect!
As someone from the old school, I can say that a ground up ascent of Master's Edge is an incredible achievement for someone without a A LOT of trad experience. Massive respect mate. Also, couldn't have picked a better partner to do it with! Neil is grit royalty, and obviously really cared about you doing the line safely, but also pushing your limits. Nice work!
Such a good effort Louis!! Well done! Hopefully videos like this convince a few more young people to get into trad. I boulder and trad climb and rarely see people my age out trad climbing. Bouldering is sick, but you cant beat the excitement and mental challenge of a great trad route!
@@sgt_timtam8658 yeah that’s true the gear can be really expensive when you first start! A trad rack will last you a really long time though if you look after it, Boulder mats and shoes need replacing quite often. Can always find a mate with all the gear and use theirs haha
@@sgt_timtam8658 I agree. I will say I find it really sad that there isn't more of a sport climbing culture in the UK- moving here from Australia with 3 sport crags within a 10k radius (and that being the norm- maybe a 20k radius for most of the population centres of Aus) made it so easy to go outdoor, just buy a rope and some draws. I haven't been outdoor in forever here and I'm devastated about it- you always need to know someone and go way out of your way, it's at least a whole day trip rather than something I can do after work so even if I had any connected person around I wouldn't have the time. There's so much good rock but such a purest anti-sport mentality means I'll probably never climb outdoor in the UK. Moving to Europe soon and hoping it's a bit better. Hopefully one day I won't be moving somewhere cause that's the only job I can get and will just be able to pick a place I want to live (near climbing) and get a job there. I just miss living in a major city and having outdoor climbing everywhere.
Such a great video. Love the way Louis couldn’t stop hugging Neil at the end. Sums up Trad perfectly… the heady mix of adrenaline-sense of achievement-I’m still alive that’s hard find anywhere else. Great work guys.
I quite literally screamed and bit my pillow at that big fall. My god. I'm so impressed that you dug in and finished it. Congratulations on that achievement!
Absolutely fantastic video. Two stellar guys and a camerawoman. The confidence the belayer Neil had was really helpful/influential on Louis and Louis’ attitude and working through discomfort safely was inspiring!!
We all need a Neil Gresham to get into trad climbing! He is a confidence booster, he is a great ressource, so much generosity in his teachings, cheers!
Got sweaty palms just watching this but damn cracking effort good job Louis! Really fun video massively enjoyed this content! Cant wait to see more vids thankyou!
Been waiting for this having seen that fall on Insta. Massive respect for getting back on after that, I think most humans would have walked away at that point.
This is already one of my favourite climbing clips ever!! Love Louis‘ approach and courage to go this far out of his comfort zone and Neil‘s confidence is so inspiring to witness!! Been lucky enough to be on the receiving end of Neil‘s encouragements and it does add a number grade to your climbing hearing him say that you can do something 💪🏻
Great job Louis, Neil and the team shooting the video. Scary amount of mind control from both you climbing and Neil to keep his composure after those sore falls!
Awsome video. As someone who's slowly getting into trad, and still struggles with the fear of it, this video was really Inspirational. I wanna see more of you and Neil do trad climbing, and I want to see your progression. I think it would be awesome.
Great video guys. Good to see Louis doing something outside of his comfort zone. Really great effort and a great collaboration with Neil. Keep up the good work guys 🤟🙂👍
That was an awesome video on all levels, you should be proud of yourself Louis! A memory to cherish and draw on and you're probably still buzzing from the experience 🙂
Never led to E7: respect! Little point, well, a massive one really, this vid shows many aspects of being safe, one of which was the demo of the importance of your second wearing a helmet (hard to hold the rope if the lead knocks you out with a rock, or in this case their head!).
Honestly loved this video, great job Louis and Neil. The fact that you didn't just flash everything and did take some falls made it really relatable to watch. I'm also a boulderer with very little trad experience and would love to try getting into trad after this. Would love to have seen some more details of the gear etc. (e.g. how _did_ you get down) but obviously time permitting in a RUclips video - maybe for the next trad adventure!
Started off thinking who is this geek?! by the end I realised he is massively brave. How could he have gone again and again? then made that massive move at the top. I could hardly breathe. Raw and so real. Brilliant short video.
More of this please. By all means rewind, but this was so awesome to see. Just did my first Trad lead, sure as sh*t wasn’t an e7, but that rush. I understand that rush.
This is actually insane. Went into this video assuming Louis was gonna top rope it first. Holy shit. I feel like Neil got the easy end of this deal. Really entertaining to watch though! Super cool to see two top-level climbers pushing their comfort zones.
I found myself saying "Let's go Louis,!" out loud at my screen several times. The sign of an an incredible film. Truly gripping, I'm stoked you chose to share this experience!
Fantastic video.. really enjoyed this one. Neil's calmness and Louie's energy really comes through, and it's great to see Louie push himself and get out of his comfort zone... I wish he'd do this more!
Fair play to you Louis. That looked terrifying. I’ve only ever done bouldering and the thought of trad climbing is insane. Your an inspiration mate. Takes a big set of balls to do something like that. And that fall!! Jeeeez
Brilliant effort Louis...showing great enthusiasm and endeavour to succeed...a fine example to us all 👍👍and great coaching and encouragement from Neil !!!
bloody love louis!! this is exactly how I felt doing my first outside climb - i really love that you have similar emotions, despite being so good at climbing
"Like bouldering, but with more excitement." Exactly. Great video guys.
How does Dave not have a tick on RUclips. I'm building my way to HVS but I doubt I'll do Masters edge anytime soon!

Massive respect to take a fall like that and go back up. You’re a beast Louis
I'd have been asking for another separate session 😂
I’d have been asking for extra undies
Beast!!!
I think Neil was scared too…. Fantastic work Louis, utter respect for the mind control needed to do this
Massive runout from what I can see

Neil Gresham is an absolute master. Please can we have more content with this legend!!!!!!!
We absolutely agree!
"Oh god, an actual hold" That discribes outside climbing very well ^^
More videos showing Neil's trad climbing knowledge please!
His Masterclass series is really good.
Unbelievable mental strength to carry on like that, even with Neil saying "he'll be pretty close to the ground" having taken those falls!
