I'm 61 now, and have been travelling to Lac Du Flambeau at least once a year my entire life. For the last 39 years, its been a round trip of 2200 miles and I still look forward to it just as I did when I was a young kid.
@@watchuswander Yes, it is my favorite place on earth. We have property on Crawlingstone that has been in the family since 1938. The thing I miss most about LDF is the more vibrant downtown from my youth. Paul's sporting goods, the giftshop, the grocery store at Peace Pipe and Simpson (now some other business or collective). The Flame has been there longer than I've been alive I believe. Did you know that your property is very close to the former property of Harry Volkman? Harry was a long time weatherman for WGN in Chicago, if you aren't familiar with him, ask you parents/uncles to see if they recall. Totally cracked me up the cheese shop on the boardwalk is on your "must" list as it is mine. Curds of course, but the 5yr and older cheddars are must haves.
@@watchuswander This is crazy. My son and his family live in NC now (near Cherry Point MCAS). Being on the NC coast makes his trip to LDF extreme, I've got it a bit easier Atlanta to LDF is right at 1100 miles.
1938? Wow! Thank you for sharing a bit of your story! Now we're homesick :) We've driven up to southern Wisconsin from our place in NC but never straight to LDF. We hope to make it back up there soon!
@@watchuswander I am from Wisconsin and now reside in Arizona. I have a cabin near manitowish waters and can't wait to visit in a few weeks. Few things compare to the beauty of the northwoods (especially when you live in a desert).
We're originally from the Madison area but Ryan graduated from UWEC so we lived there for a few years! And although Wisconsin will always be home, we live in North Carolina now :)
I've lived here 25 years been to Paul Bunyans once! ain't nothing but a tourist trap! you want a real supper club go to Hicks landing! or blink bonnies! want best steak around try the White Stag!!
Hicks Landing, what a blast from the past. I'll bet I was there once a year through my whole childhood (always ate dinner fast so we could go play along the flowage). I'm thinking it's been at least 20 years since I was there last, my brother, sister, and I will have to consider a trip out there when I get up there this year. Our go to favorite for the last few years has been Norwood Pines (not far from Wal*Mart), and Mar-li's in Sayner has a great ribeye and other goodies too. A real shame The Plantation closed, I sort of grew accustom to the bar appetizers, and we've known people on staff for decades prior. Oh, can't forget Polecat and Lace in central Minocqua, had to have been in there 40+ times. Paul Bunyans is pretty much as you say, but I used to let myself get talked into it only for the just cooked PERFECT donut. All the rest is good of course, but the price these days is getting a bit ridiculous.
How long have you lived in Lac du Flambeau? It's a great place and we love it but we only visit in summer because winters there are too much to handle!
For 12 years I was born in lac du flambeau there is now new stuff to check out if u want I can show u around new things but I will like u to beware that many people in this small town are rude and vilent people

How wonderful that you have shared so much of your life in such a lovely place. It sure leaves its mark on your heart, doesn't it? :)

Nice look at the now closed Paul Bunyan. Wonder who ended up with the giant statue.
I know! It's gotta be a collector's item for someone :) Thanks for watching!
most of you probably don't even remember bosackies boat house!
We do remember Bosacki's! Ryan and his family used to frequent it :)
James Jackson of course I do
I have lived in Arizona for years now and have tried to put into words the beauty of the Wisconsin northwoods, but nothing can do it justice.
We completely agree, Jordan! Thank you for watching :) Are you from Wisconsin or do you have family in the northwoods?

Have a great time!!
The Fence Lake chain is a great set of lakes to be on.
+Jeffrey Stohl We agree! Are you from the area?
Well done. Will hopefully be visiting the area next week-now I know what I should do and see. :)
Thank you for watching! Have a great time in the Northwoods :)
I grew up in LDF and Minocqua. Nice job showing the area.
Thank you for watching! We'll be heading up there again this summer and are looking very forward to it!
Watch Us Wander from the EC area I’m guessing? I went to CVTC for law enforcement training.

Watch Us Wander Very cool. I grew up in LDF, and now live in Evansville, which is south of Madison. I travel to Asheville a few times a year for work.
I live on Minocqua up on Huber bay!! I can walk to town in 10 minutes!!
We stay at a resort 10 min north of the casino every year, going on 7 years this year. I've got the summer fever already real bad
We know that feeling! Gotta love the beautiful Northwoods! Thanks for watching :)
wow, at 6:14 you got video of my now late grandmother. it was just a shock to me and made me tear up. I live in Lake tomahawk.
So sorry for your loss! I hope our video brought a smile to your face. We always cherish the memories we make up north.
Watch Us Wander it definitely did make me smile. The north is a special place.☺
