Pixel 3A: Ridiculously good for the price

  • It's not every day you'll use a phone with lesser specs than the flagship - and with it being half the price - and come away pretty darn amazed. But that's me and the Google Pixel 3a XL. Put it this way - half the time I completely forgot I wasn't using the Pixel 3. It's not perfect. But it's also half the price - and ridiculously good for what you'll pay.

    For anyone who loved Nexus phones in the past and are looking for a new phone - Just get the 3A and carry it for a couple years. You'll love it. For anyone who doesn't want a giant phone, just get a Pixel 3 or 3A. Size never gets discussed even though I know people who are sick if large phones.

  • @travisrusko

    Should I be concerned that the images only save in high quality as opposed to original quality in Google Photos like the regular 3 and 3XL? I've wanted a Pixel for a long time to have a phone that takes great pictures of my kids. My wife and I take an insane amount of them. We print them off from time to time too (especially when I create her a Mother's Day photo book every year on Shutterfly). Seems odd that a phone that's all about the camera would remove that perk.

    • @Moderndad
      @Moderndad  5 лет назад

      Like you said, it's a perk. For most folks it shouldn't be an issue.

      You Indian people only care about the number written next to the SoC name.
      Not knowing that the 670 is very similar to the 845 and outperforms the 835

    • @nishantdesai3705
      @nishantdesai3705 5 лет назад +6

      @@YounesLayachi Really then why does google gives 845 in flagship Pixel devices ? Don't get me wrong this is a good device, but not for India or Asia for that matter because we have lots of options when it comes to mid-range which gives better features and if you're worried about camera then you can install GCam in all of those other devices, it's just doesn't make sense because
      "You western people only care about the logo drawn on the back of the device, Not knowing that other phones with GCam installed gives similar quality photos as Pixel 3a and outperforms 3a in most of the other categories".
      No offence though, I'm just giving my opinion because the way you guys are jumping right on "such good mid range device" we were also in same state about 1-2 years ago, and since then we had lots of other brands competing in that segment.

    • @shawnwilliams7021
      @shawnwilliams7021 5 лет назад +1

      Nishant Desai The difference is in the US we don’t have mid range devices at the carrier or at stores like Best Buy. Our market is saturated with flagships, primarily Apple and Samsung. We have the Pixel and now OnePlus, you may even come across a Sony or LG but that’s about it. The “average consumer” won’t go on Amazon or eBay to find those excellent mid range phones. So yes, people in the US are going to buy a brand name and as far as a good mid tier phone the Pixel 3a is about it.

    My last 4 or 5 phones have been flagships, and my current Note 9 will be the last top-tier mobile device I get. These ultra-expensive phones are great, but each of them have a few big problems (usually with durability and customer service, for me) that spending $1000 should negate. I'm reallly looking forward to picking up a 3a when my Note is paid off!

    Android phones are actually starting to gain popularity in my high school. I'd like to think it's because of me. I'd say a good 40% of students use an Android device now; that number used to be much lower. I think part of the problem is that many kids receive a terrible cheapo Android phone as their first. If they would just be introduced to a flagship Android device, more would realize how great they are.

    • @Moderndad
      @Moderndad  5 лет назад +1

      That's a great point. Similar to how a friend also says Android is so much better going from an iPhone 4 to an OG Pixel a few years ago. Anything old to a new flagship will be a poor comparison.
      I expect most of it is due to imessage though. I know adults who hate themselves for spending so much on an iPhone, yet do it anyways so they can still iMessage

    Great review Phil. I miss your phone reviews. Regarding that polycarbonate, the old Lumia 920 and 1020 had a polycarbonate back and those felt great at the time. I looked at this phone at Best Buy and held it to feel this. It feels premium to me. I have an S10+, and I'm tempted to get one as a Nexus like device to always have the latest Android betas on, and for the camera.

I've already said in other channels, I own a Xiaomi Mi A2 with 6Gb of RAM and 128Gb internal and believe me, this phone has behaved in an excellent way, everything very fluid, smooth, fast and without any type of lag, and the best thing is that I enjoy Android One which is almost the same as having a Pixel. If Google had released a version of this Pixel 3a with 128GB internal memory, I would have left my Xiaomi Mi A2 from now. IMHO!😉👌🏻💯📱

      I'm not aware of apps, as a general rule, being any more on iOS. I'm not saying they are always the same price, but I've seen some apps cheaper on iOS than Android -- and from what I've seen it is pretty balanced. Beyond that, overall apps are better on iOS; I suspect much of the reason is that developers can make the apps for "iPhones" -- just a very few phones -- whereas there is so much variety (even in screen resolution and processors) with Android.
