So many of their songs did not get the attention they deserved. One of my all time favorites was "Here I Stand and Face the Rain" a beautiful song that was overshadowed on the first album because of Take on Me and The Sun Always Shines on TV. Thank you for shining the light on my boys. I have loved them since I was 14 years old and will until the day I die.
If you want to hear Here I stand and Face the rain to full effect - try and listen to the version on the Hunting Hight and Low 30th Anniversary Box set - it's magical (and the way it should have been on the original). This will amaze you! ruclips.net/video/Mn3QUu0jaV8/видео.html
Really like your reactions. Always feels like a sort of validation for an old die hard fan when new people realise there is so much more to a-ha than just Take on Me. I would suggest one of their songs from the '90s for you to react to next.
A young dude like you listening to my all time favourite band from the 80s. Love the way you feel their music. Honestly they are so underrated you wouldn't believe. Generally their live music is stunning when morten is in the mood. CIS my favourite track from this album.
Most of the video footage taken by Steve Osborne was taken during the performance at Rock in Rio 2015, which marked the band's return after the 2010 farewell. So the song takes on even greater meaning, very emotional...as if was a reconciliation between them
It is almost unbelivable how many great songs they have made. Some more to be added to the list can be: I call your name, Foot of the Mountain, Under the Makeup, Forever not yours, Did anyone approach you, Lifelines, Velvet, Train of Thoughts...(last one may need to grow on you. It’s a bit different and special.)
Reading the comments, I see that everyone recommends their own favourite songs. I can only recommend you, 'Go on like this with all A-ha's songs, you'll find out more and more high level details. They're really able to give us new sensations and the right shivers in the music world.
This song can both be about a marriage or a great friendship that ends. I love that aspect of A-ha that some songs may be about the glitches in the relationships between the three guys of the group instead of marriage.
Yep, this song is about the three of them, wanting to let go of a-ha but finding their links to each other to be stronger than even they realised. To me it’s about a restoring friendship rather than a love affair, but still very emotional. The pure love of a deep friendship.
Hi Mike, Ive really enjoyed watching your reactions to the a-ha songs. For me its been like hearing them from a whole new place. Also its amazing watching you connect with a band and their music thats been so dear to my heart since i was 12. This song Cast in Steel sounds to me like a brotherly love song to each other. A commitment to the band and each other to keep it real. "made a pact" "cross your heart and hope to die" sounds like teenage things we say when bonding in some way.
I'm sorry to hear that, but I am sure this song helped you through that time! This song packs so much emotion. This might be my favorite a-ha song that I've discovered so far
You have to take a dive into Memorial Beach! Now THAT is dark - even for a-ha! From that album I would recommend Locust, How Sweet It Was, Angel and Cold As Stone. Also check out the album Analogue - especially Over The Treetops and Celice - oh and the title track of course :-)
Thank you!!!
You’d like the groove in Minor Earth, Major Sky (the album version not remixes/alternate versions) if you want to check out more of their modern stuff.
You asked about more recent live versions of their earlier stuff. You liked Manhattan Skyline, I’ve Been Losing You and Scoundrel Days from their sophomore album. A fan favourite from that album is The Swing of Things. It was performed live in Oslo Sentrum in 1994 - you can find it on You Tube - it has one of greatest guitar riffs in the bridge of the live version and vocals to die for. Check it out - listen all the way through 👍👍
Now they did it...they made me cry...so much sentiment and knowing it's the end of something. And then they started the harmonies and I was toast, hehe.
I take no pleasure in you crying, but that makes me happy to hear that their music can make us feel and I mean rally feel it! This song tugs at my heart strings too
I don't know if you have reacted to their ballade "Stay on these roads" from their third album. "Cast in steel" kind of reminds me of that one, which is one of my favorites. Love both of them.
Their each album sounds different. From the older catalouge it is worth to check for more rocky stuff East Of The Sun West Of The Moon album - title song and Sycamore Leaves; Memorial Beach album also title song, Cold As Stone or How Sweet It Was. Stay On These Roads - 3rd album was very synth but title song is very beatiful. More recent album from 00 with fine guitairs is Analouge - again title song is very good. They have also live album I can't Sleep With Your Voice In My Head from 2002 with live versions of the songs you commented here. Live must have is Live In South America dvd when they were their live best recorded on their East Of The Sun record tour. A little jelous for you descovering them just now. I will be coming back for more here. To reconnect with myself from long time ago ;)
Just listen songs title of their albums... like East of the sun west of the moon, Memorial beach, Minor earth major sky, Lifelines, Analogue, Foot of the mountain, Cast in steel... and you' ll see the progression of their sound since the 80's and the come back of the group. Amazing!!!
they often had songs remixed for single release, they are not really bothered about single releases, more just release an album and tour. Though cast in steel was released 2016 they have said a new studio album is unlikely, but we did get their unplugged album. Sycamore leaves nrk live performance lol I’ll keep suggesting it , you won’t regret it 😁
There's been single remixes and edits that are inferior - this one, "Nothing is Keeping You Here', "Shadowside" in recent years. But then there are remixes on CD singles (remember those??) which were superior to the album version ("Lifelines" Boogieman remix, for example). If you REALLY want something fun, you should listen to the album version (not the single edit) of "Minor Earth Major Sky" and then the Black Dog mix of the same song.

I love "Here I Stand and Face the Rain" and "Living a Boy's Adventure Tale." Both rays of light!
"Here I Stand and Face the Rain" and "Living a Boy's Adventure Tale" are masterpices

When Morten can remember the lyrics!
Morten Harket also has a diamond from his solo album - Brodsky tone. This song is worth your reaction!
This song is a heartbreaker and uplifter at the same time if possible - thank you for reviewing

Up for an even longer list? :) Cold As Stone, Angel in the Snow, Move to Memphis, Early Morning, Dark is the Night for all, Memorial Beach, Shadowside
Maybe the most beautiful one... Thought That It Was You
@@lunalairTM love this song, Morten called it a little piece but I really love it
@@vaniachiandotto7797 I know. They do not focus much on it, rarely play it in concerts. Still it feels a little magic to me. A hidden treasure. :)

This song made me cry lots, I was losing my best friend from my youth when I first heard this one.
I'm sorry to hear that, but I am sure this song helped you through that time! This song packs so much emotion. This might be my favorite a-ha song that I've discovered so far
That's exactly how codlplay always dreamed to sound like!
Cosy Prisons.
you'll start to cry
Celice, cold as stone, Locust...
oh yes!
From the same album you should hear Under the makeup or Giving up the ghost.

Agreed. Possibly their best album, alongside Scoundrel Days...

Duet with Anneli Drecker in Vallhall 2001 is wonderful.
